- Here is Disney day one! We flew from Long Island to Orlando. We had some issues but I explain it in the video. This is just a blog style, check out Claire’s video for more information! Notwithstanding that I don’t think the US has EVER even had a card you can get to indicate it’s a service dog or permission. Like there’s never been a process to “register service dogs with the government” to my knowledge
Once you get on the plane they can ask for a doctor’s note for psychiatric service dogs. This may also apply at the airline Kiosk because they don’t want you to be rejected for the flight once you enter the plane. Your ADA coverage stops once you enter the airplane. Once you enter the plane your Federal Disability Rights are covered by the ACAA (Air Carriers Access Act) which is a Federal Disability Law actually passed a little bit prior to ADA Law. ACAA is administered and enforced by the Department Of Transportation. For people who are new to Disability Law there are numerous Federal Disability Laws and so it’s important to find out which one or ones (Sometimes there is some overlap in coverage) apply to you in a given situation. ACAA requires notes for Psychiatric service dogs so that is one of the things that is different from ADA Law. A lot of people only know ADA Law so some are shocked or outraged when they get bumped from a flight because they don’t have a note from their doctor for their service dog that mitigates a psychiatric disorder.
I recommend that if you have a disability that you notate that on your ticketing information when you book the flight. You could just show up but I think it puts you in a better position if you identify as being disabled in print.
I don’t have a service dog but I need a wheel chair pushed by a sky cap. Unfortunately, if you need reasonable accommodation you may encounter some unreasonable individuals. Some flight attendants don’t know about ACAA. One put ADA in my face when she was trying to discriminate against me. Everyone needs to find their own style.
That's weird they didn't know how to check a Service dog.. When my dog and I where still in a service dog training class, we went to the Portland airport just to practice going through TSA. But the TSA people where actually in training themselves so not only did our dogs (and us) get very helpful practice in, but they where learning how to properly check a SD. But they just had us put our dogs in a sit stay then we would walk through and call them through (Still holding onto the leash). They did it that way so if there gear did set off any alarms they would only have to pat them down and not us bc if they heeled they wouldn't know which one it was (Which they pat the SD's down anyway just to put the dogs through that experience)but they didn't ask us to remove anything from them. Including solid medal mobility handles. lol we also learned not to touch cheese treats or cheese anything, because apparently when they check your hands for explosives it tests positive if you have handled cheese :o So we also learned that. But it was awesome at our airport that the training TSA agents also got to learn about SD's and the law.

I flew United with my SD and every employee was wonderful. I even missed my first flight due to long lines and they got me another flight. No questions, nosy quizzes, etc. Only glitch was one flight I had two seats for me and my dog but they weren't together! and nobody would move so we could sit together, so we got off that flight and got another flight. Got to Orlando in time for our Obedience Championships!
I have a service dog for ptsd and one time a kid probably 8 and he was with his parents brought over his dog to "meet" my service who was working and that dog was VERY dog aggressive and the dog was barking and lunging at mine and the parents did nothing to stop him I was scared and angry about how someone could think that letting a dog especially A a Dog reactive dog over to a working service dog. My dog could care less though.
Do the pros outweigh the cons for a service dog for ptsd? I was thinking about asking my psychiatrist but I’m unsure.
Im Aweisme it really depends on the person. Personally the pros out weigh the cons for me but for others it may not. Your best bet would be to talk with your psychiatrist and see what they suggest as they would know what the best form of treatment is for you

This may be a silly question, but how does Wes hold it for that long? I feel like my guy would have to pee right after getting off the plane, or even again before we got on! Is he just used to holding it for awhile or did you refrain from giving him a lot of water? I would be nervous about accidents. Just curious on how you managed that!
Wesley went to the bathroom before we checked into our flight and then just held it until we got to a patch of grass in Orlando! He's used to holding it for a couple of hours at a time since he comes to classes and work with me. He had an early dinner the day before and then stopped drinking water when we left for the airport.

When I flew with my SD in December of 2018 they made me take everything off and because travelling is already stressful for me I just agreed but I was so disappointed in myself for not refusing seeing as they can’t technically ask me to take off her gear.
Whew. You were really brave. I'm so terrified of flying between just being stuck in a sardine tin flying through the air and dealing with people and traumatic experiences before. Haven't flown in almost 20 years at this point (was a kid the last time). I'm in the process of figuring out how I'm going to pay for a service animal for PTSD, depression, etc. But you going through all this shows just how resilient you are and it's really encouraging to know that it's possible to fly with a service animal. Having that level of freedom again would be amazing. I barely leave my house except for doctors appointments and to do grocery pickup. It's sad but I'm just so panicky trying to go places by myself. I'm hoping that the service animal will help with that. I've tried lots of meds and therapy but so far nothing has really helped me feel secure about going out and doing normal adult things. It's a toss up as to whether I'll have an episode while out and for a while I was dissociating so badly that I was afraid to drive. Didn't want to crash the car! You and your friend, dogs and channels here on TH-cam give me a lot of hope. I truly appreciate you putting your experiences out there for the world to see.
hey, I have a fear of flying too and haven't flown in 10 years since I was 11. I have go fly to Florida in July to visit my service prospect and pick out which one I want then come back 4 weeks later in August to bring her home.
flying can be scary. You hear all these horror stories and think it'll happen to you. I'm petrified of flying because I fear there will be turbulence or the plane will crash.
next time you're on a plane, just take a deep breath, sit back, and tell yourself that everything is gonna be okay and nothing will go wrong, that the ride will go smooth. You can do this!

I didn't realize the dogs could fit where the carryons go. It's so cute, though I bet it's not too comfy for them. I'm in the process of getting a service dog myself, so this was helpful.
Honestly this is so frustrating. I’ve been really lucky to have had good experiences flying. I opt to get my dog “naked” and walk through and then call him through.
I'm so glad I travel MAC flights from the base. My Service 🐕 Dog and I are treated with respect. Never have they questioned his abilities

An E collar? I guess I'm lucky. I've never used an E collar on my SD. It's a lot of work flying but it can be fun. We've been flying now for 5 years. Our longest trip Hawaii 11 hours

@@petrishalee2315 not a SD handled, just taking a guess, but teach them to pee in a toilet that way they can use the bathroom. You could also slip them some treats if you're worried they'd get hungry, not enough to cause them to have to poo tho

I had to get up around 3:30. Flew with Harley and Diesel and made it to Texas from Arizona with a lot of struggles but we made it

Wesley the Service Doodle I’ve been a little confused about medical alert. Is that only when they alert to things like hormones inside your body, or can it also be physical things like scratching or tapping your foot before an episode?
Stuffed Animal usually its a scent via horomone or saliva but it can also be physiological i believe :)

Sorry for asking so many questions but can you go on rides with your service dogs and can go on rides without them (more extreme roller coasters and rides like that)
Lol no, that would be so dangerous! You can't buckle a dog into a roller coaster! Disney says on the ones that don't tilt or go fast, like it's a small world where it's kind of a kitty ride, you can. So the slow paced ones. However sometimes they are jammed packed and then it's hard to get a Service dog on it! But extreme roller coasters no. I have heard Disney has like dog kennels for the dogs. However they are expensive, 20 dollars a day. ( I can bord him at a vet for 10 bucks where I live) And truthfully I wouldn't trust Disney with my dog! If I where to go I would spend a few days just walking around introducing my SD to all the characters. Then I would find a nearby vet that did dog boarding, and board him there for the day. When my Service dog was a pup and we would go to the beach and he was to young to go in anywhere still, sometimes I would board him at the vet. He much preferred it to a doggy daycare. It is cool and quit for the most part. Also the vet he would go to would walk the dogs 1 on 1, give them a little bit of solmization (but only with the dogs they think they would blend with) then 1 on 1 play time with a person and by the end of that they where tired and ready to sleep. He likes people more then dogs (Although don't get me wrong, he does have a few doggy friends lol) but he didn't like the chaos of other dogs everywhere. But to answer your question no. And if a handler was to try and bring there Service dog on a more extreme ride, that would be soo selfish of them. Because they wouldn't be thinking about the fact he can get hurt by flying off, getting stepped on, and so many other things. Even kids buckled in can fly right out of some of those. So it would be selfish thinking if someone took there dog on a more "extreme" ride. A small world I understand if it's not too crowded (to make sure a dog doesn't get stepped on, tail, back, paw, etc) but even most kitty rides are too dangerous for a dog. They didn't create them for dogs and they aren't made for them. Personally I wish Disney would take dogs off rides. Although I haven't been there in a long time, maybe there are rides that don't tilt, spin, slow and safe. But even then, if you need your Service dog on a ride with you maybe u shouldn't be on that ride. I mean if he alerts u can't really do anything about it if your going fast. You Can't get off, cant reach the meds, etc. So just board your dog on ride day. I want to go with my SD sometime in the next year, however I plan to mostly just walk around so I can get adorable pics of him and all the characters and even play games. But maybe I will take a few days and let him be at a borders so I can go on a few rides (with my lungs I can't go on a lot of "extrem" rides) But I would probably do it like every other day so between his long working day he can have a calm day relaxing the next day. It is good for SD's to have breaks too, espucally after long days! I hope she makes sure to give her dog plenty of breaks throughout the day though. Because going to Disney land (She didn't say which "Disney" I am assuming land from the clips) but going this time of year is insanely hot. Dog's can get so overheated! Like every hour she is going to have to make sure he get's a drink of water and a cool air conditioned place to lay down. Because they are due to be in 93 degree weather. And for example when the outside air is only 77 degrees the pavement reaches 125 degrees. You can fry an egg at 131 degrees. So I'm bad at math but at 90 degrees it's really hot. but even with doggy shoes that still heats up and can make a dog hot. Plus even putting shoes on them can over heat. Because dogs only sweat through there paw pads and noises so if you cover it with a shoe they can't sweat. That would be like covering up with a sweater in summer. You over heat because your body can't let it out! I'm sure she'll watch for signs and give him often and frequent breaks in cool shade or inside. But I know when your having fun often times time can get away and you just don't think of it. Also dogs can over heat or have heat strokes once the temp reaches above 90 degrees (lol and that's just talking about a short walk not outside all day at a theme park) but I'm sure she'll watch for it.
Yes! Disney's policy is that every ride WITHOUT a height requirement, the dogs are allowed on (it's a small world, under the sea, etc.) Rides that require the height (big thunder mountain, splash mountain), the dogs can either wait with a family member/friend ("rider trade off") OR can be put in a provided kennel which is then watched by a cast member.
Hi! So I would not be able to do Disney World health wise without my service dog, not even a day. He's there to mitigate my disabilities. Boarding is not an option. Ride wise, we are put through the accessible lanes and get either a whole car (Under the sea as an example) or an entire row for ourselves. They're not crowded at all, and assuming your dog knows how to tuck properly, there's actually a lot of room. If you want to know if I took all the precautions, you can ask me. I know what's best for my dog. I also go over some of the precautions in this video. The kennels for the rides are completely free. There is a boarding service across from Disney World that is around $40 for a day if that's what you're referencing.
I didn't know If you want to land or world in this vlog as you didn't state that I saw (I tried to find it) I know the boarding at Disneyland is only $20. But I need my Service dog too, but his NEEDS ALWAYS COMES FIRST! Yes he knows how to tuck perfectly, but that doesn't mean all rides are suitable for a dog! Just like I don't take him up elevators (unless he had booties on) but because his claws can get stuck and SD's have been known to get severely injured on them. So I take him in elevators instead. But just because I need my dog, doesn't mean everyday world is best for him. The world wasn't created for dogs. Just because he is my medical equipment and saves my life doesn't mean certain places are suitable. He isn't medical equipment made of plastic or medal. He is a living animal. But I know land is crowded and maybe world isn't? Even if he can tuck doesn't mean it's safe. If it is crowded people can step on dogs espucally if they don't realize there is one under the seat. which can really injure them. I didn't see you talking about precautions in this video although I might of missed it since I kept skipping past the parts without talking. But if you look out for him and not just your own needs, that's all that matters.
And that's cool they have kennels for SD's I didn't know that. However I don't think I would rely on anyone (besides a friend I trust or my family) to watch over my dog and keep him safe and that no one would make off with him. Lol SD's are expensive on everything they need, I wouldn't trust a theme park to protect him. I would be way to nervous the whole time I'm on the ride! I did see in todays video that u give the dogs frequent breaks which is great.

The stimulation provided by an e-collar is a static shock, similar to what you have probably experienced yourself on a dry winter day. It is annoying but not painful, and it is designed to get your dog's attention, it will not hurt your dog.
But it's still a shitty way of training your dog imo...
As an owner of 5 shelter dogs I don't suggest using this to anyone.
Please refer to my e collar video! It’s not a static shock, it’s the same technology that a TENS machine uses (the machine used on people in physical therapy) :)

Luminary Xion there are many vids she had posted about it if you are interested. It’s called an E-collet and it is a tool to help with obedience and training.

No offense but if you sit in the exit seat don’t you have to be capable of helping others get out and opening the door considering you guys have the pups how would that work?
Danielle 1244 you are not allowed to sit in the exit rows with a service animal.
Danielle 1244 they prob just didn’t know, and the workers on the flight should have told them so they could move.
Pretty sure they are a row ahead of it (as its behind their seats) the plane just doesn't put a third seat in the row in the front so those exiting to have more room.

You don't have ask their permission to video or photograph TSA clowns. They can't tell you it's illegal, which they will anyway. Their own training tells them it's OK to film at the checkpoints.

With a service dog you should know way in advance what the requirements are for traveling with a service dog. NO exceptions.Lessons learned for you lady. Unfortunately, that’s the way the cookie crumble.
