As a 13 year old I LOVE ELO AND I LOVE EVERYTHING OLD their music is so unique and different from anything else I've listened to it's like each song is a whole different feel from one another
Thanks, Biz, we love ELO! As for the lyrics, they tell the story of Jeff trying to find his recent lover who has seemingly bailed on him. He's looking all around the streets, trying to get her on the phone, but he can't find her, and says in the lyrics it'll be sad if her ghosting him is the way it's over. He dug her, she was a sweet talkin' woman, but it appears grass doesn't grow under her feet, and he's hoping she'll slow down, in terms of going from man to man, and that he'll be able to find her and resume their romance.
ELO songs still sound as good as they did when I first heard them in 1979, on my 13th birthday. My sister bought me ELO's Greatest Hits Full Album and my little mind was blown. I wore the shit out of that record. Good times.
ELO were on the radio all over the place in the 70s, so many hits! Now that I'm older I appreciate the genius of their music, besides just how catchy they are.
Hey Biz! Back in the day before the internet and cell phones, we would press the "O" button on the phone to get the operator. You would call the operator to get phone numbers. We would give them the person or business name and they could look it up and give you the number or connect you to it if you wanted. Keep up the good work!
Electric. Light. Orchestra! Jeff Lynne is genius...not just brilliant, dude is a freaking musical genius; this is the very first vinyl record I bought myself in 1977, (I was like 9 yo,) with errand money for washing dishes and shit like that, cost $12 U.S. back in the day, (it's a double album btw, so many great tracks, it had 5 hit singles, unheard of for it's time!) Still worth every single penny, holds up to this very day.
Do you remember Columbia House from back in the day? Where you could get 20 albums for one penny. Only problem is, you had to buy 20 more albums over the course of a year or something at more than the price record stores charged. This album by ELO is one of my "free" albums. I bought it because I liked the album cover, I didn't know any of their songs yet. They soon became one of my favorite bands.
Back in the 70s you can imagine that ELO was the british rock version of Parliament Funkadelic, two huge bands with genuis leaders who both used to have a spaceship on their concert stage
Thanks again for the reaction Biz. ELO taught a young teenager (me) that the word (Orchestra) meant beautiful instead of boring. I have been a better person for it since.
Now that you've had a taste of both Jeff Lynne and George Harrison, it's time to dip into the Greatest 'Supergroup of all time" The Travelling Wilburys (Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison). Tracks to start with? "Handle With Care" and "End of the Line." Jeff is also a much sought-after producer. He produced many fine albums and produced Paul McCartney, George Harrison and of course The Beatles - 'Real Love' and 'Free as a Bird.'
I don't know man, I would not call Telephone Line a happy song by any means. 😊 I totally dig the vocal arrangement in this one. That's just amazing. But then again it often is. Can't remember if you have already done Mr. Blue Sky and Turned To Stone yet. Both of them are just astonishing. They also had this single called Don't Let Me Down which is just so fun.
It early in the morning and I turn Biz on and you just brighten the morning for me! You cannot fake the enjoyment I see you getting from this music! Just puts a smile on my face! Don’t stop young man! You have NOT even begun to scratch the surface of what is out there! Biz your smile lights up the screen!
I might have told this story before. When I was in eighth grade I took my ELO "Out of the Blue" album -- that's the album with "Sweet Talkin' Woman" on it -- to a party one of the girls at school held and someone at the party put Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell" record away in my ELO album jacket and the second record of my ELO double record album in someone else's Meat Loaf album jacket. The center label on the records were the same color -- orange, iirc -- so the mistake was understandable. I went back that girl's house the next day -- she didn't live very far away -- to see if the other person had caught the mistake yet but they hadn't. Instead that girl's dad gave me his rarely played copy of Springsteen's "Born to Run" album and a very very well played copy of The Rolling Stones "Let It Bleed" album that he probably bought in 1969. Lot of pops and hisses but no scratches.
I bought Out of the blue when I was in twelfth grade and the records were blue. I had to drive an hour and the sun warped them as they lay on my back seat. Really sucked!
This is my favorite ELO song, but I'm not sure I understand the lyrics, I just love the sound of the record and the melody. You've hit a lot of ELO, but there's more. I would go with either "Turn to Stone" or "Can't Get It Out of My Head" next.
You're wrong damnit.😆 Just messing with you. I have no idea what the song is actually about. I know anytime I walk down the street, I'm looking for a sweet talking woman. Or a woman I can do some sweet talking to. My favorite thing about ELO is how catchy their songs all seem to be. Anytime something new by them came on the radio, it would always catch my ear.
Great song. Great album! In the early nineties I drove an hour away and bought this album. It was a double album and the records were blue. I put them in the back seat and when I got home I realized the sun had been shining through the window onto them and they were totally warped. It was very upsetting!
@@Cosmo-Kramer Yep 👍 I learned my lesson the hard way! After that I always put a towel or something like that over my records. I really miss those days of going to the record store. They had thousands of them, and it was fun digging through them in search of something unique. By the way,big Seinfeld fan! Seen them all I don't know how many times 👍
@@garyclark9618 Yes, those were the days. My friend Bob Sacamano and I used to head out to the late-night record shop when we were bored--it was fun rifling through all those albums, we'd start at A and end at Z.

Yes, ELO, can never go wrong, the sound of my teenage youth in the 70’s

Dialed 0 and a real person answered! How times have changed.
Smooth as silk. The song flows with great back up singers too!

Gotta watch this live!! Love ELO! 🫶🏻
Remember operators!? 😂 wow.
This is before chat lines. He's talking about talkin to the operator back when you had to be manually connected in some areas.

Great to dance to. I started to do it while sitting and listening again.
It's so funny that George Harrison loved ELO, but hated U2 that his son Dhani loved. George was a daddy...cool.
Dhani loved ELO, too.

Ouch! The sun got the edge of one of my records from The Who's Tommy.
Summer and lightning or fire on high.
Love ELO. Hit Fire On High, Jungle, Ma Ma Ma Belle, Wild West Hero...so on and so forth 😎
All Over the World Fashmob 2016 in Chile
