    Please explain about man b&w engine main lubricating system from main bearing inlet how it goes in connecting rod .how crosshead lubrication done using telescopic pipe..and Wer is piston cooling outlet oil goes..

    • @marineinsight
      @marineinsight  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As explained in the video, main bearing inlet is separate. The connecting rod is hollow and oil travels from crosshead to connecting rod bottom end bearing. One part of the telescopic pipe is moving and attached to the crosshead, the other part is hollow and have enough length to accommodate the moving pipe from which the oil supply is done.

      It goes back to the crosshead. If you see the diagram at 5:50, you can see the outlet hole which aligns with the hole in the crosshead top part.

      Both are different systems.
      CW system is different, LO system is different.
      LO needs to be maintained at around 45°C as per operational requirements. Once under circulation it heats up and needs to be cooled down to 45°C for which LO cooler is employed.

    Here The lube oil to main engine sump is supplied from the settling tank. So does it mean that purifier takes only suction from the sump and dirty return oil tank and not from the settling tank?

    • @marineinsight
      @marineinsight  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is a provision to run the purifier from settling tank to settling tank. However, during normal engine operation, the purifier is operated sump to sump.

    Hello sir, I had a question that why can't we use sump oil for cylinder as well as piston lubrication.

    • @marineinsight
      @marineinsight  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Cylinder lubrication comes directly in contact with combustion chamber, hence more compatible oil needs to be used. For Piston cooling, usually same lube oil is used but supplied from the different system (tank, pipelines etc.) to detect leakage.

    Why does cylinder oil feed rate decrease with increase in load ?

    • @marineinsight
      @marineinsight  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The engine efficiency is achieved when running at higher load as they are designed like that. When the engine is run at low load, the fuel burning will get affected leading to more carbon deposits which need better cleaning and hence more feed rate. Once the engine is running at higher load, the combustion process will get better leading to less carbon/soot deposits which can be cleaned by oil in less quantity.

    • @gouravbose785
      @gouravbose785 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok.....is it always true that efficiency will be lower during lower rpm ? And also tell whether the cylinder oil feed rate needs to be changed if we cut out a turbocharger given that there are 3 turbochargers but only 2 are in action ?
