  • Dr. Neal Barnard discusses how food can affect PCOS. He examines the science-based evidence that eliminating meat and dairy from the diet can often improve symptoms for women who have it.
Plus, Alison Tierney joins “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll to share how she was able to overcome PCOS by changing her diet. She once thought that she would never be able to have children, but the nutritionist is now the proud mother of a healthy baby.

Over the decades, I went to 5 different doctors in North Dakota to have the full range of hormone tests done. All of them said my hormones were 'within the range of normal'. Not one of them diagnosed me with PCOS based on any lab test or any medical exam, although I had many of the symptoms. I've had one successful pregnancy (delivered at 35 weeks) and at least 4 miscarriages. My weight was 145 when I was 18, then ballooned up to 285 when I was 32. Now that I am 55, my weight stays in the 160 to 170 range. The only way I fixed my very oily skin, mood swings, dropped a ton of weight, and got normal periods was by changing my diet. Not one doctor here in North Dakota suggested a dietary change. They did suggest taking $140 worth of medication per month 'for life'. They did suggest having my ovaries drilled. I did not follow their advice on the medication or the icky ovary drilling. Really, honestly, walking an hour a day, doing 30 minutes of yoga, and eating as vegan as possible was the only thing that made me feel remotely normal again. It took years for me to figure this out. I'm 55 now, post-menopausal, and have only felt 'normal' again within the past 2 years.

May I ask which herbs you used? Did you cut out sugar? I've been diagnosed with PCOS a year ago and desperately want children.

Two glasses of milk a DAY??? Plus cheese? No wonder she had PCOS. So glad she figured it out and turned things around. 👍🙂

I am a whole foods vegan for 4 years now (I´m 21) I´m at a healthy weight and exercise regularly, I still have PCOS and I have had it ever since I started my first period. I almost never get my period and my OB/Gyn said I should cut down processed foods which I have already been doing for years and everything I hear about the treatment of PCOS is losing weight, eat healthier and exercise more which I already do. My thyroid function is fine, too. I am very frustrated now, especially because my OB/Gyn said if we can´t fix this with diet, Inositol which I have been taking for almost six months now and Vit. D supplements I will have to take plant based hormones which I really do not want. I just can´t find the factor in my life which allows my PCOS to still exist. Can anyone help me?

      A) the general definition is devoid of animals & their byproducts. In terms of health, whole foods based. And B) so that you watch more videos 😏
