I bought my first copy of the T&S with my pocket money in 1966. My Grandfather taught me to fish and took me to the river on the opening day of the season where I watched a retired gamekeeper friend catch a beautiful brown trout on a spinner. I was hooked as they say. Oh how I long for days gone by. So nice to watch this Robert. Thank you
Thank you very much for uploading this gem of a series!!The good old days of anglers still wearing tweed, and those lovely reels with this familiar ratchet☺️
❤thanks Robert for sharing such a great video with helpful information. Always glad to see such great history keeped for future use by all fly anglers. Enjoying the videos you share. Thank you again mate. Can’t wait to see more and learn. Best Regards, Ken from West Virginia
Michael Chapman (and Lady Burnett of Tillmouth and the record salmon) were my immediate neighbours for 10 years. I owned the Smithy adjacent to the boat workshop.
Thanks Robert, that was fun and beautiful scenery. Now is the time to prepare some tough and hardy worms. Although, I think a Belgium cast more appropriate.
A truly great video of real fly fishing ( the way we all learnt in the late 50s) nothing wrong with using a worm on a fly rod. I have also caught many Salmon on a bunch of worms in coloured water. Now you can see real fly fisherman ( not still water) the correct way to mount a fly reel for right handers . In the old days Hardy reels always were assembled for a right hand cast and right hand wind. There is and was a reason for this . First correct answer gets 10 points.
@paulnevins5936 No it's to do with playing the fish off the reel, also as you cast the line passes the back of the reel without getting caught on the handle, especially roll casting.
The rivers on scotlands east coast have had the best catches for a number of years, nets on rivers haven been banned for years in Scotland I wonder if this helps the number of retuning fish.
This guy is dressed as he was on a wedding ceremony 😂and I am trying to look like an astronaut when I am fishing a tiny creek, my point stay away from these media trying to sell you all type of ridiculous wading suits for ridiculous prices.🤑

I think fishing is the most nostalgic of sports.we all look back to day gone by and remember the days and atmospheric times.
A very gentle and informative diary. As I am a loch fisher from the boat. I found this very interesting.

The reel handles don’t catch on your clothing?

This brings back memories Robert. My Dad had these on video, but I'm not sure what happened to them. Perhaps I wore them out!
