Fly Fishing - A Season On The River Wenning
มุมมอง 1.8Kวันที่ผ่านมา
Formed by the confluence of Austwick and Clapham Becks. The River Wenning starts its journey in Yorkshire before heading into Lancashire to join the River Lune. Its name derives from the Old English word “Wann” which means dark. Sadly, over the years this enchanting little river has suffered at the hands of man. With incidents of sewage pollution and the ill advised straightening of some parts ...

Wonderful to see Bernard again, thanks for posting
A lovely fly 😀
Thank you.
I enjoy your videos - so informative and educationally produced - is there any benefit in adding UV to the thread and also also if I may, when would you use the gold ribbed version over the non ribbed?
Stunning
Thank you.
Dear Robert I have wanted your book on north county spiders for ages and begged someone in my family to get it for me a and son came up trumps for me this Christmas I can’t wait to get started on some of the patterns to fish on my local Devon rivers on Dartmoor do you recommend any As I know you fish on Dartmoor from time to time Kind regards Timothy James
Thanks Tim, I hope you enjoy the book. I generally fish dry fly when i'm down on Dartmoor. But on the occasions i have fished spiders, i've found the Spring Black, Orange Partidge, Broughton Point, Black Magic, Light Spanish Needle and Waterhen Bloa to be highly productive. Hope that helps. Rob
I like the stillness and only the sound of nature.
Nice pictures and a Nice river. I did like the still picture with only jazz music. It gave me a good mood😊🎣
What a wonderful place!
Thats a beautiful looking water with a good lack of trees to get snagged in😂
Just lovely Robert and you really are blessed with your Yorkshire waters, I did look and it's at least a 3hr drive from mid wales so too far for me these days, fly box was interesting as well.
some very good rivers in mid Wales, I drive there regularly from London, usually takes 4hrs or so.
@@gillb2268 The best would be the upper Severn or Wye, the Vyrnwy and Banwy have really gone down in fish population.
@@fieldsman3307 in the last few years I've had some nice brown trout on the Tywi, though sadly the sewin have all but disappeared. The Teifi too has some nice browns and tho not a river Teifi pools is always worth a visit on the right day. i love fishing in mid Wales, would rather it than Scotland which is, apart from the far North, overrated. tight lines for 2025 and all the best.
ROBERT YOU ARE ONE OF THE LUCKIE PEOPLIE IN THIS WORLD TO HAVE GREAT STREAMS TO CAST IN LIKE ALL OF THE ONES YOU HAVE OURS OUR NOT THAT EASY TO GET AROUND LARRY PAULEY U.S.A. HARRY HOLIDAYS
Stunning scenery Robert and a sneaky peak inside the fly box 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful pictures
Thank you.
Could be any river in north they are all lovely. Wenning used to have a good run of salmon in the 60s and 70s.dont know if any get up for catching now.very nostalgic thank you for sharing.
Amazing! The scenery in the photo comes alive in my mind!
Beautiful wee river, Robert, and some lovely shots on your slideshow there. I spent many happy (and frustrating!) hours on this stream in the 1990s. I've 2 stretches of club water here that I really ought to visit next year. Thanks for prompting me and compliments of the season 👍👍
Thank you. Hope to see you on the river next year. I'll be the one climbing a tree trying to retrieve a lost dry fly!
I was just watching one of your videos and thought hold on, I've seen this man before! I met you on the cherrybrook, the day that there was a thunderstorm. It's been my first year fly fishing for wild brown trout in rivers and, I've rather fallen in love with it. On the small Dartmoor Rivers I've generally been using a dry fly but next year I wish to try and experiment more with nymphs for when they're not looking up
Hi Chris, I do remember bumping into you on Cherrybrook. Hope you had a good season on Dartmoor and the Devon rivers. It was a strange experience fishing in that thunderstorm!
Thanks Robert , your video is a tonic on a winter evening.
Glad you like it.
very lovely impressions from small rivers - and a nice picture from yourself at the end, fine such a beautiful backview at the end of a year !!! Merry christmas from Markus, germany
@@MaHa-mr4rn Thank You.
Some spots I recognise Robert but plenty that I didn't. More exploring is required next season. Where is the micro stream in the rain at 4.58?
It's Walla Brook below Runnage Bridge.
Very nice video
Thanks
ROBERT ALL YOUR RIVERS ARE SO CLEAR AND AND CLEAN IT IS GREAT TO SEE THIS LARRY PAULEY U.S.A. HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Thanks Larry.
keep them coming 👍👍👍
For an easier tie, start from the tail end and work your way to the eye.
I prefer to dress my flies in the traditional manner.
@@thedalesangler And you still wear traditional diapers or did you switch to huggies for easier wear?
Hi Robert, lovely video again and oh do I wish there was a stream like that in mid Wales it really is idyllic, have a nice xmas.
@@fieldsman3307 Thank you.
An excellent simple pattern. If snipe wasnt available could you advise on an alternative hackle?
A slide show can be more artistic than a video, for me.
MR ROBERT WE HAVE THE SAME THING OVER HER BUT I DONT THIINK YOU HAVE ALL THE BIG OLD PLANTS WITH THER POLLUTION YOUR STREAMS LOOK A HOLE LOT BETTER LARRY PAULEY U.S.A. HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Thanks you Miguel.
Nice pictures. Really nice spiders, especially those with Peacock head👍

Beautful fly.
Thank you Terry.
Class . Would you fish this wet or dry
@@mazman8343 Looks lke a classc dry. have got to a stage where I sometmes grease up a wet fly and fsh it dry or emerger style and sometmes just let a dry fly become waterlogged and sink. :-)
Nicely portioned, not unlike Clyde Style if it were a tad more sparse. Thank you for tying.
Thank you.
Beautifully put together. That LH wind perfect is something to treasure.
Couldn't agree more!
Michael Chapman (and Lady Burnett of Tillmouth and the record salmon) were my immediate neighbours for 10 years. I owned the Smithy adjacent to the boat workshop.
Beautifully tied as always Robert. Would this be a representation of the Large Dark Olive?
Probably, as it is early in Kirkbride's list of flies. I've fished it on the Wharfe, and had some good catches with it. But, as with all traditional split wing dry flies, a couple of fish, and the wings start to fall apart. But, having said that, it is nice to see a traditional split wing dry fly dancing down stream.
Grazie per le bellissime immagini. Saluti dall’Iralia
Fantastic pictures should do a calender ..
Odd question but where did you get the bobbin holder adaptor to the silk spool
@@markschafer2843 they were a gift from a friend in the States. Sadly, no longer made.
Interesting method of tying, simple bit effective pattern
Glad you like it.
Lovely pattern, it's been my most successful spider for grayling this year on the Ure and Wharfe.
Very nice, really enjoy your videos
Thank you.

Beautiful tie, love watching your ties.
Thank you.
MR ROBERT I LOVE YOUR SPIDER TYES THEY ARE THE BEST I HAVE FOUND AND USED SO FAR LARRY PAULEY U.S.A.KEEP UP THE GREAT VIDEOS THX
Thank you, for the kind words.
Interesting tying. It’s appears to be made backwards. That grouse feather had fabulous markings. I find it interesting that so many of the old flys the hackle could be longer than the hook and quite dense. A lot of hackle used. So many books say tye sparse and no longer than the hook. I prefer the traditional way.
