  • La Fanciulla del West (Act II).
    Puccini.
Una parola sola ... Or Son Sei Mesi Che Mio Padre Mori.
After the success of his opera Madame Butterfly , Puccini returned to the source of its inspiration, David Belasco. Belasco, playwright for Madame Butterfly had also written The Girl of the Golden West, and Puccini selected that drama for his next opera. This opera was the first World premiere premiere for the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. It went on to be a huge success all over the United States. The Opera is set in California during the 1849 Gold Rush. Minnie the camp girl has fallen in love with Dick Johnson, who is really Ramerrez, a notorious bandit who is being hunted by Sheriff Jack Rance.
Carlo Cossutta (born on May 8 1932 in Santa Croce del Carso, in Trieste, Italy, and died Udine 22 January 2000 ) was an Italian opera tenor singer, renowned for his Otello (by Verdi), under the direction of Georg Solti.
Cossutta emigrated to Argentina where he initially worked as a furniture carpenter. After discovering his vocal capabilities he received tuition from Manfredo Miselli, Mario Melani and Arturo Wolken in Buenos Aires. He debuted professionally in Buenos Aires at the Teatro Colón in 1958.
1977 recording with Margaret Price as Desdemona, Gabriel Bacquier as Iago; Georg Solti conducting the Vienna Philharmonic.
In the mid-70s he substituted for Placido Domingo in a San Francisco performance of Otello; Domingo returned the favor some years later.

I was in the lyric opera chorus and several seasons of operas with Carlo Cosutta. A great and thrilling tenor but above all a really nice person. Walked the streets with him on lunch breaks and really enjoyed his down to earth attitude. Sorely missed!! RIP

This is a WONDERFUL version of "Or son sei mesi". It's not just the tremendous, authentic dramatic tenor voice but also the details of the interpretation. There are some caressed phrases that one might not have expected and some interesting stresses. Unfortunately his high note technique , while secure and beautiful does not thrill me in this particular case. But that does not diminish his titanic accomplishment. Thanks so much for uploading!

Me alegra mucho leer tu comentario. Se puede decir más alto, pero no más claro.

I can hear him tired as well and at the limit of being woody in some parts. Still a great singer.

@@alvarodecampostabacaria4223 yes it's amazing really there are singers like him who we would do anything to be like , who are have extremely powerful voices and are
good singers but just fail achieve what Correlli and del Monaco could do
