Very nicely done and great use of chromatic aberration. The dark matter, frost arc, and lavos summoning scenes look especially fantastic. All of the animations and effects are faithful to the original. I love the attention to detail.
Man, that full 3d is cool. Doesn’t really work well with the 16-bit sprites, but I honestly like the contrast. It’s a really interesting effect I’ve never seen before

Square despises turn based RPGs now, which is why all ther ff games are real time hack and slashs and why they abandoned Chrono trigger remake, they would never allow one to go out , octopath might be the final exception as even if it sells well square will shrug it off and continue there ways, it best they don't touch Chrono as they will just force it to become there new hack and slash rpg like FF 7

Playing it on SNES is still fun but this is amazing! I love the 3d environment, 2d sprites and dynamic camera. The camera adds so much more to the dialogue. Please make more vids of epic battles like Zenan bridge or Azala and Black Tyranno! Edit: In my excitement I forgot to check the date of the video... However I'm still glad you uploaded this.
This is outstanding. Everything looked so good, but the best were the Dark Matter and Hell Geyser spells--the Spirits coming out of the flames was such a good touch to add. The gate scene at the end... this is how it should have always been done. Fucking amazing

My theory is that this battle was very hard even so than the last boss (that was just long) to prove that Lavos did made many timelines. The paradox is around because he bends time. It was only clear to me when I brought Robo in the original game.

Yeah, I want a full remake on PS4 or PS5. I feel like they will remake it, if the FF7 remake becomes a gigantic success. That is why the FF7 remake needs to succeed to me. This is probably the best way to remake the 16 bit jrpg classics, the sprites were so gorgeous that 3d models never do them justice. Cell shading might do pretty good for Crono's style but this style here is so slick.
That was truly epic! I'd certainly play a remake like this, 2D sprites and all! Only improvement I say is: get rid of that linear filtering (sprites and textures). It'd give a sense of clarity, especially being on a 3D space..

remember playing this when it first came out. they had a walkthrough and everything in nintendo power... even in nintendo power they played it up as if this was the last battle. mind blown.
People that never played the whole game from start to finish will never understand the feeling of fighting Magus for the first time. The scene alone builds up the fight pretty good but in reality the whole game up to this point builds up to this battle. The plot drops a few clues and hints about who Magus is and what he's capable of and you, as the player, know deep inside that you gonna have to face him sooner or later. Not to mention his castle is one of the greatest RPG dungeons ever made. Also because his fight is the point in the story where the plot really opens up and you realize that defeating Magus was a small task compared to what you have to face going forward. Which is funny because Chrono Trigger is a short game for today's standards, especially for RPGs (around 10 hours if you know what you're doing) but every moment is so masterfully crafted that it feels much longer.

I love the camera angle, shakes, and focus on the character. It's very similar to GoW camera technique.
Also want to comment on Frost Arc. Frog jumping INTO the background and seemingly jumping off the statue back into the field of battle-perfect!

Just a generic chanting sound. It's used in Medina Square when the fiends are worshiping the Magus/Ozzie statue.
I really like this party at this point in the game. Frog and Marle's Ice Water is an excellent dual tech. It's like Ice 2.5 an doesn't cost that much.
