Keeping your records in those clear transparent ( hard plastic ) sleeves will for sure in time ruin the lp inside. There is a chemical reaction between the two over time. I own over 14.000 records been collecting them many years. I found out the hard way as they say! Don,take my advice get rid of those transparent sleeves,put your lps in the partial transparent ( soft plastic ) sleeves,they will not harm your lps. This can also be said for inner paper record sleeves that have a thin plastic bag inside the inner sleeve. They will leave permanent marks on your lps.

The Vandellas' "Heat Wave" album of 1963 was an effort full of cover songs that Motown quickly threw together to cash in on the hit single "Heat Wave". Far from a masterpiece, the album still has a charm about it that Martha does justice to. Altogether, between 1962 and 1972, Motown released 10 Martha & The Vandellas albums. Since you already have "Watchout!" in your collection, I can highly recommend any of their other albums -- especially "Dance Party", "Greatest Hits", "Ridin' High", "Sugar & Spice", and "Black Magic". Place your trust in Motown! You won't be sorry!
Motown albums especially the earlier ones are quite rare. The 45 was the biggest seller for soul music in the 60's. You'll find that most soul music is about 5 years behind the format curve. For instance, labels still made 45's for jukeboxes through the 90's. Reissues on cd weren't popular for soul music until the early to mid 90's after most rock music was reissued by 1987. Moreover, the album didn't become huge until Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder released concept albums in the early 70's. Soundtracks like Curtis Mayfield's "Superfly" and Isaac Hayes "Shaft" were also at the dawn of the increasing popular of the soul Lp. Motown also mixed the singles quite often differently than those contained on the albums. Singles were almost always in mono and there would also be alternate vocals and instrumentation.
Wow, I am not getting all these out, how do I clean them or make sure they are good enough to sell, my family collected all kinds of older stuff and antiques.. I looked some of these up and they did say rare or sell them all together
I have the Little Anthony lp, (at 8:45) issued in 1966 on Veep label, a division of United Artists. Contains the group's original DCP recordings (Goin Out of My Head, Hurt So Bad) and rerecordings of early material from their End/Roulette days (Tears on My Pillow, Shimmy Shimmy Koko Bop)..
Good records. Bo Diddley originals are impossible to find. I have two original after 35 years of digging. Considering i dont want to pay more than $25 for an lp. The jazz thing is something that will grow as you get older. The thing about Brubeck is after Take 5 single and being first jazz artist featured on Time magazine cover he was became the face of jazz and a giant star. Thus his labels would issue many records that didnt have great material on them. The gateway to Brubeck is his album Time Out. Herbie Hancock Maiden Voyage is a good gateway as well as Nancy Wilson & Cannonball Adderly, or Nancy Wilson & George Shearing. The Newport albums were too many..The Newoort Jazz Festival was the precursor to ALL pop & rock festivals and thus motivated a lot of sub par albums. The gste to Newport is Jazz on a summers day documentary film.. A sampling of Newport Jazz 1956 festival. That will make you reconsider a lot of things. Also includes a rare live Chuck Berry appearance. Im a Berru fan but you will realize what a difficult guy to work with he was. Could write all day but wont..Good Luck..And keep digging..cant tell you how many records i purchased for a few dollars from older people looking to sell their husbands or boyfriends collection. Once a guy saw me carrying some records and he yelled that he had some in his house. Under his bed he had about 5 or 6 James Brown original albums from the late 50's early 60's. All kinds of other stuff. He said give me $40 for like 20 albums. I had $50 and gave him that. He said he really wanted them to go to a good home.
Hello Don, I've listened to the songs on your soundcloud. I might have to do it again but I think you have a good sense for your instrumentation sometimes (guitar wise). I hope that's not an insult for you, but your guitar work reminds me of mac demarco in many parts. My favourite part is the kinda funky part from 40 secs on in the weatherman song although I don't really understand why you change the key afterwards. But it's the best song in my opinion, but again I'll probably give the whole bunch another listen. I think you could sneak in some more surprises into your songs, but overall its pretty solid stuff and I like that you invest some effort into your work, so keep going! :)
Any jazz albums you can lay your fingers on by Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Milt Jackson, Dave Brubeck, Thelonious Monk, Oscar Peterson, Kenny Burrell etc. are worth getting NOW, because you will grow to love that music. Trust me on this. Great Hall. Huzzahs, Don.

Do you mean how to tell if a record is a first pressing? Eventually you will just get a feel for it so that you can tell generally when a record was pressed based on the construction and printing of the jacket and vinyl quality and record labels. Discogs is usually a good place to do some research, but you could probably find some other good sources that may be more accurate and detailed by doing a google search. Also, often you can use the matrix numbers in the runout groove of the record to determine the pressing.
