I have two Akubras. The one I wear for my fieldwork is the Army Slouch hat. I have bought three of them over the last 40 plus years. The reason I favor them for my field work is the fact they have chin straps, and the outer pugee band helps soak up the sweat ( I work in the Mojave Desert). For the price and durability few hats can beat it.
@@goldersromatoowoomba372 If you take care of the hats as suggested, by that I mean an occasional cleaning, I found that an Army slouch hat can last anywhere from 10 to 12 years. I never went through all that much trouble, so mind lasted 6 to 8 years in good condition, and another 2 to 4 years in a beat up (As one might say having character) condition, before I felt I had to replace it. As you say, anyone buying an Akubra needs to buy it a size larger, because the inner band will shrink down a size, no matter how hard you try.
I would have got the cattleman if it didn't have a hem around the edge of the brim. I have been wearing the bronco for three years but got the Territory recently and love it
Exactly, carry an Akubra on ya noggin, they are made to be worn !!
Haha so true!

Brilliant! How long do you find that they last you in those conditions?

That sounds about the same for the other styles as well. Thanks for sharing :)
I love my cattleman, i have had it now for about 6 years & its a hat that will last me a life time. I use a Akubra Hat Jack to keep its size.
The Hat Jack is a great tool!
I love my stockman!
Glad to hear it!
Got one …..love it
Awesome!

Is it just the style you don't like with them hem or has it caused you issues in the past?
@goldersromatoowoomba372 I am not too keen on the style of a hem but also imagine the hem could start pulling away over time
Yeah fair enough but I will say that we haven't seen the hem pull away yet.
the real akubras were made from rabbit fur
Hi Steve, you are 100% correct!
