    I know it’s like comparing retro-apples to retro-oranges, but the $4000usd MSRP gap between the Royal Enfield INT650 ($5700ish) and the Kawasaki Z650RS ($10 000ish) is pretty significant. Which, to my mind, begs a question: If a person is going to buy a midsize retro bike, is the Z’s juice worth the squeeze?

    • @vaibhavahalgekar4439
      @vaibhavahalgekar4439 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Good question... However the overall quality and long term reliability has been proven on a kawasaki time and again.... So maybe it's a safer investment... IMHO....cheers

      @@vaibhavahalgekar4439 vehicles make poor investments so you'll end up losing more value on the Kawasaki just as a law of large numbers and vehicle depreciation..
      I think the Kawasaki needs to justify itself purely on a superior experience and a more luxe bike. I'm young and broke so it's the RE for me but if I was a high roller?

    • @alexp6409
      @alexp6409 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I think the performance difference between those two is just about as significant as the price difference. If all you're going for is the looks, then save the money and get the RE...but the Kawi is nearly 100lbs lighter than the RE and has much more emphasis on performance, IMO.

    • @notstevelam
      @notstevelam 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@alexp6409 its not 100lbs lighter. more like 50lb (which still makes the RE650 pretty damn heavy). the RE is also WAAAY slower.

    Of all of the models on this engine... This is the best and most perfect 👌 application. I Would want more punch in the Z650 and More top end in the Ninja 650 the Verses is fine with this engine but this RS is perfect because the flat top end doesn't matter. This is the perfect town/city bike.

    Great revue.. a couple of observations… a 70’s inspired retro but, they put 80’s style badges on the tank and charge extra for the 70’s ones as on this bike? Also, how do they make such a beautiful bike then put what looks like an iron foundry underneath the engine where the exhaust used to be?

    158 miles on my 2023. It is all around very good, especially for an around town bike. Sounds much better in person and the intake sound when opened up makes up for the tractor idle 😄 though that is the sound of reliability and sorry not sorry, I love the character of the flat twin 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @visordown
      @visordown  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      'm not sure it's built as a 'replacement' to the Z650, so it's difficult to say if there's any improvement. This is more about serving the retro-crowd with something that rides like the Z650, but with the retro style of the B1

    • @alexp6409
      @alexp6409 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's too bad they are charging such a premium over the Z650 for really no difference in performance - just looks. But hey, they get away with it on the Z900/Z900RS, so why not do the same thing here? Ugh

      @absolutefreedom9437 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In line 4 is available in the z900 and z900rs. Do your research homie. This is based on the z650 which is largely based on the ninja zx6r. All 3 share the same parallel twin engine. But to satisfy fools like you Kawasaki should have engineered and manufactured a 1 off inline 4 cylinder engine JUST for this bike.

    • @paulmahy
      @paulmahy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm considering a compromise. This isn't a true Z with only 2 pots, I don't want a 900 RS just because I want 4 pots, so I'm going for what was a staple sound for Kawasaki, albeit in the hazy days of two strokes, with a retro feel and getting a Triumph 660 Trident. A better pipe or 3 into 3, few tweaks here are there and you've a modern retro looking bike with decent spec's!

    One of the best features of the Z650 is the beautiful TFT dash. The Z650RS is a nice bike but at $9,000 USD, it is way too expensive. Better option is the 2020 Z650 for $7,000 to $7,200. If you really want the retro look, for $300 more than the Z650RS, you can get a Triumph Street Twin for $9,300 (especially with the blue tank. Simply lovely).

Does their opinion on comfort and ergonomics not matter to a review of a vehicle which is sold to both male and female?

    the RS650 is a another twin, what a piece of luck their Z650cc is also a twin. Wonder if its Kawasaki accountants padding their offering with a few bits of trim and plastic? The acceleration of their twin on the road is nothing to write home about. Better off going for their RS900 or do you want save money just go for an Enfield, the paint and welding is really high quality. And they don't look like they are trying to be something. they look proper and are proper. Wouldn't the buyer just buy a W800? Maybe hunt down the last of Yamaha SR's I would probably say the last of Yamaha's SR or an Enfield is where the smart money would go?

    This bike looks cool. It's the bike I want but when compared to the competing bikes in its class, the value is lost.
    I'm not sure what these bikes cost around the world but in Canada this bike starts at little over $10000. I can get a 2021 cb650r for same price, and that bikes engine alone is far superior and more powerful then this. The trident is cheaper then this also, which engine alone is superior to this.
    Also in Canada this is priced about $1600 more then the z650, which from the sounds of it is identical underneath the cladding(let me know if I'm wrong about this). And the z650 bikes seem to be heavily discounted if you get a previous model year. It's still a good buy but in my region atleast, there seems to be much better performing bikes for the money then this.

    Visordown ..I appreciate that your reviewer, Alex wasn’t born in the seventies..but try to give him a script with a bit more research behind it. The original B1 was not released in 72’ !! ..it’s a 1976 bike!…
    As to the new bike…nope…the first z650 had 64bhp …45! Years of development later and it’s only up to 67bhp and has lost 2 cylinders!. The original concept for the z650 was a sports 650 to take on the 750’s of the day.(which it successfully did)
    The new bike appears to have a very different agenda..that of a rather bland middleweight twin for new and intermediate riders….fine ok ..it’s just a shame that they took the heritage of the z650 and distilled it down to a commuter bike. On its appearance: classic tank, hideous side panel/silver thing, terrible sound..in conclusion, a missed opportunity.

      I agree with many of your points (historical record and power comments), but I think Kawi and the others see a market out there for less expensive, less intense, bikes (maybe Triumph can get some credit for this niche?). I just stopped into a local Triumph shop and they said they can't even put a Trident on the floor as they're already spoken for. If he's correct (I'm always suspicious of showroom talk) then there quite a demand in this segment.

    The only British style bike I have ever owned was a Yamaha 650xs and it was a thousand times better than any brit built bike ever made. My friend with his 850 commando we could never go riding together because his bike was so unreliable. He used to ride his commando to work and half the time his wife had to bring him and his bike home in their van. Just trying to find specs on this bike on TH-cam I couldn't get any specs without listening to some brit with his quipy little quips for God only knows how long before getting any pertinent info, so I have decided that now I won't even own a BRITISH STYLE motorcycle.

    Why can’t Kawasaki just make it a 4 cylinder. The original 77 z650 was an absolute legend. Sexiest bike since the original Z1 and designed by the same man. Still great but come on. P.S. make a Z1r coffin tank model and take my damn money.,

    • @petersedliak4362
      @petersedliak4362 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because they dont have 4 cylinder engine to put into such small frame and its economicaly pointless to develop it now, when they have whole model family of 650cc based on this engine/frame combination. Moreover, that engine is really not that bad. It look weak on the paper, but that bike weight just 187 kg and you really dont need more power when you ride it. Its agile and despite its not rocket, its more than enough fast, unless you dont have deathwish. Plus, this bike is mentioned for begining bikers and bikers who just want to have fun bike for easy riding, not some ultimate cruiser for long rides (despite I know guys who without any hesitation took Z650RS for trip from Slovakia to Romania/Serbia and Croatia, just because its fun, agile and good looking) and for that category, its ideal combination.
