Hey Robbie! Thanks for actually taking a look at the Angels fairly, and also points for not immediately saying they need to trade Trout. Realistically, that decision is ultimately up to Trout and he doesn’t seem inclined to ask for a trade. And I think it’s entirely possible that even if he did, Arte Moreno would STILL refuse….he is obviously an owner with little to no shame, so being such a villain is not out of his wheelhouse. You nailed your analysis of the Angels young players (Neto, O’Hoppe, Schanuel) and did a good job characterizing the pitching staff- there are decent pitchers there unlike in years past, but they absolutely need that Ace that everyone can fall into line behind and find rhythm. Ultimately, the thing holding back the Angels from winning is Arte Moreno more than any other problem you can point out. Arte has proven that he cares more about being the winning owner than actually winning. So the only shot the Angels have is if his ego has been so hurt by not winning and losing Ohtani to the dodgers that he’s willing to do crazy things, and further, those crazy moves have to accidentally be the right ones. One last note- don’t sleep on the Angels and Juan Soto. I think it’s highly unlikely that he signs in Anaheim, but Soto is exactly the kind of free agent Arte Moreno likes- superstar. And it might be a major help to Arte’s ego to pry Soto away from the Steinbrenner and/or Cohen (two owners he’s always envied) and sign him to an insane contract. The Angels (imo) are in the perfect situation to seeze a postseason spot. They have the A's in their division, the Mariners can't hit, and the Astros have being having some issues recently. If they can spend some money and/or make some smart trades they could win 84~90 games and make the postseason

The Angels and Rangers are both in a situation where a handful of changes and good luck will put them in contention for the division crown. My prediction for next year would be that the Rangers and Astros fight in our for the division once again and that the A's begin selling a few older dudes or expiring contracts for younger guys who will help soon (Brett Baty, Heston Kjerstad, Hayden Birdsong) or in other words EXACTLY what the Marlins are trying to do right now. I could see Rooker and a few of their annual army of MiLB deals and waiver claims to be shipped out alongside the occasional impact player (Mason Miller perhaps?) with hopes of good returns

I smell a trade for a controllable outfielder while also trading Taylor ward. They need to go all in on burnes, otherwise just sign the highest rated non QO pitchers. That 2nd rounder is going to be very high, so it needs to be worth losing.

No. They could buy the best free agent in every single position, get 4 new top of the line relievers, 3 new starters, and they would still only win 82 games. There’s just something with this team where, no matter what happens, they are mired in a bad funk
Angels from info I read is that will have maybe around $190 mil to use. That means Angels maybe doing trades. The Angels roser is up to do many stuff. So is hard to see what direction. For instance does Ward, Luis, get signed long term or traded? Is Moore still needing to cook in minors? For instance Dana does need more work, his pitches are not proper release points yet but making progress Jack the pitcher actually impressed alot of guys since I believe he has highest ground ball rate out of any pitcher and may start with Silseth as well since he did real well. Soriano took huge step too. Reid has chance to be traded or Sandoval being traded. The Angels need to compete quick. Angels may trade Thaiss and get more veteran defensive catcher. They may need another outfielder depending on direction. So there biggest needs are 1 or 2 outfield, second base, 1 lead starting pitcher and 1 regular starting good pitcher. Angels still need figureout their bench as well. Maybe another utility player like Luis that be moved all over. So big decisions, but expect many unique trades from Angels,then fill on the market. First they need figurout who gets cut, paid, and non tendedered. Suarez and Griffen are fit to lose contract and get signed maybe in minor league one. So in couple months we will know what direction they chose. Especially if they finally cut Rendon, but who knows at this point.
As an angels fan … my god this is purgatory. Certain quotes hit harder than others. With context of the last 10 years some things he says like “better depth than we’ve had before” and criticizing farm system ranks… makes me want to throw up in my mouth. I view this as earning my stripes. God willing the day we make playoffs I’m gonna wear my halos jersey with so much pride.
Robbie referenced Baseball America in the ranking of minor league systems. I can’t seem to find the rankings. MLB Pipeline did rankings of the overall team’s minor league system, but that only was done prior to the season. Is there a more current ranking of the overall team’s minor league system?
