    It's more accurate to call kulning (or lokk, as it's known in Norway) Norwegian-Swedish rather than Nordic, because it's really only been practiced in Norway and Sweden since it's supposed to echo between the mountains, and there aren't really a lot of mountains in Finland or Denmark.
    Very lovely singing, though.

    • @scar445
      @scar445 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      but norway and sweden are nordics?? besides, im sure they did it here in denmark and in finland as well, just for fun, you know :)

    • @vaettra1589
      @vaettra1589 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Logically it was practiced in the nordic countries wherever it worked. It works pretty well wherever sound can travel a great distance, like for instance across a lake. But it was probably most effective in valleys and mountains.

    • @GandyDaGei
      @GandyDaGei 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It was practiced in both Norway, Sweden, Denmark and maybe even Finland and Iceland.
      They word itself is swedish, yes. But it is a nordic herdingcall.
      It was also practiced in the woods as shepherds - especially women - would sing it to one another as they'd often spend much time alone, when they lived on the summer pastures in order to fatten the livestock for the winter months.
      As well as if one of the animals they were guarding would stray away from the flock.
      But it was also sang for their own enjoyment.
      Apparantly many shepherdesses had their own spot in the woods, where it would echo good, as the sound would be even better as the mists enveloped the woods at sunset :)
