Spent many hours on one of these when I worked for a landscaping company in high school and have dreamed of having one for my own lawn ever since. Truly just a brilliantly engineered machine and so well built. It's a shame they've skyrocketed in price but the performance and longevity are truly unmatched. Great video!
Walkers are super nice. I think lots of guys are switching to standers and more compact rigs that take up less space on the trailers. Nice to see this one getting some love.
I worked for the father in law, he ran a small landscaping business. He used a Locke 3-reel mower, 75" wide. That thing was a beast. It cut 70 lawns a week for 15+ years. No idea what it cost in the late 60's but it was worth it.
Can you please upload more videos of all the work you plan on doing to it. I would love to see what it looks like all done! I love these mowers, it brings back memories of when I was a kid ('97-'99ish) and I worked for a guy that had 2 of these Walker mowers. One was a bagger and the other was a mulching deck like yours. I remember him saying that they cost him $13,000 back then and I thought "Damn that's more than what I paid for my 1 year old Civic!" I would love to find one today that's affordable but decent. Thanks for sharing the video with us!
I live in Florida, and people mow a lot of grass here. I’ve been flipping mowers here for years and have never heard of a walker. This must be primarily a Midwest mower where you have acreage of nice soft grass. Here most crews run Hustler and Exmark. Back in the day Dixie Chopper was big, but not so much anymore.
@@WatchJRGo If you run that 300HR oil, make sure that you don't let the screen get covered in grass. Ex walker mechanic here. We had multiple engines warrantied because that amsoil sludged up and killed them.
What I don’t understand is. Why do these companies put black seats on their mowers? Have the engineers never driven a tractor in the summer? I’ve had to buy a yellow seat cover for both of my lawn tractors, to keep from scorching my butt!
@@WatchJRGo Of course there was that IT job you had that fired you and made YuoTube a much bigger part of your life now! Sorta glad that happened, I got you see more WatchJRGo videos because of it!
JR this is a great video, man you got me when i saw the mower. That was a fine deal and you know those mowers big time. Looking forward to seeing it finished and grass flying. NICE WORK!!! I have a Kubota.
These out front mowers are definitely the way to go…walker, grasshopper and my favorite was the Toro Z325 (back in later 90s-early 2000’s). Still prefer than over ANY mid-mount
I’m currently guardian for a family friend’s late 70s Groundsmaster with a 72” deck, and I love this thing… I can even by parts for it locally. Great for when it’s time to eradicate the poplars and maples encrouching from the perimeter.
Two Stroke Lawn Boy. I have 6 of them. Best walk behind mower ever.....I can stripe my lawn like a professional baseball field. My neighbors are jealous.
What's your issue with Exmark? I have a 1998 Exmark my buddy bought in 2008 that was in similar condition; after an engine rebuild and some replacement parts, he used it until 2012 and sold it to me when he moved. This thing has been rock solid. Other than a couple of original pullies, PTO clutch (which was fairly cheap/easy to swap), and new rear tires, I've done nothing but scheduled maintenance. Oh, and the battery - which lasted over 10 years before needing replaced. The thing is a tank and cuts well - pretty much every lawn company around here runs Exmark. I do admit the ride could be better...
Well that's one way to get the best price on a stupid expensive toy. I don't mind fixing things if the price is right. Kinda how I bought my house, manufactured home that was done and move in ready so bought it for over half off a comparable stick built and fixed the stuff they tried to hide. So much bigger and nicer than my old tiny rental and 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms.
No, I wouldn't imagine there is any money in the lawnmowing business when you're buying an $80k truck and a $20k mower, plus another $20k hotspare mower. 🤣
you should add some compost to yard and have nice green grass to mow, impress the neighbors, staging house also does increase sales on average but does it also bump taxes
@@WatchJRGoPLEASE make videos on that entire process. My yard is basically all weeds besides the front, and I want to make my grass fuller to prevent mud
@WatchJRGo you should reach out to Allyn, The Lawn Care Nut, and see if he'd be willing to collaborate on the project with ya. He's mostly finished with Garrett's place and it's looking amazing already. Since he's already familiar with your zone he'd be invaluable even if just for a consult on how to get it done on a budget 🥂 ... and now you have the perfect mower for a perfect lawn 🎬 I foresee a robotic mower in your future when all the construction is completed; hopefully prices for them will continue on the downward trend so you can get one for cheap.
I wanted a seat with arm rests on my almost new zero turn mower so I ordered an office chair on eBay for $75. with them. All I had to do was remove the chair base and drill 2 holes in the mounting plate >>>>> so easy and so comfortable !
I have a Ferris and I love it minus it does NOT do well when the ground is wet... things just get clumped up but it is a BEAST. I just wish I could find a way to get it to cut clean when the ground is wet.

I could never get comfortable with the controls on a Walker. Push the lever on the right to set the speed and then pull back on the sticks to turn. If you wanted to stop quickly though, pulling back on both control sticks didn't work, had to reach for the right lever again. At least I think that's how it was, it's been 30 years... At least there was a bed on back to throw sticks/trash in!
It's a little rough but if you media blast the frame and powder coat or paint it you'll make it look good and run forever. Looks like the parts you needed were pretty cheap, you should grab that $1K mower, swap over the parts you need then you could easily sell it for $1K 😅
Pixies & Elves E10 petrol does a great job in rusting parts that can be oxidised. 1 litre of petrol contains 100cc of alcohol. 1 quart contains 4 floz of alcohol.
You definitely should buy battery company stocks so every time you buy a new battery (which is obviously a bunch) it's like you're investing in your future. Seriously!
You can convert that to a mulch deck very easily. You just need to buy the deck shell and new blades and hubs. The gearboxes are the same as the side discharge. I was a walker mechanic for 10 years and worked at the same shop you bought your parts from. Ha!
You should 3D print a filter cover… way cheaper. I was surprised how expensive those units are new. Also buying a brand that is 30 seconds from your house makes it the best mower in the world!
Want 2 more 0 turns? I have a 60 inch dienes made in Kansas. We paid 19k for the last one we bought in 2008 before switching to diesel because of durability and fuel cost.

Feel the same way about black seats in convertibles.
White gets dirty… John Deere got it right with the old yellow seats! 😳
Would the engineers choose the color of the seat? Either way, its either for cost saving or to not show dirt. Maybe both
Exmark have gray seats, comfy too
Good video. Wouldn’t mind more please.
Would be cool to see a full restorstion of this thing, like full tear down and repaint so it lasts forever.
I bet this does a far better job than the robot mower.
Can't believe he was using that, especially as a former lawn guy. Yard at the old house wasn't that bug and would have been super quick to push mow.
The garage looked so big but not anymore very full

My dad still has one of these but it’s been sitting for years. It’s a nice mower for sure. He replaced it with Wright Standers for ease of use
I used to work for a company that sold those Walker Mowers.
Make sure you check idler pulleys , some may sound good and can be bad if this mower is 4-5 years old.
