I was expecting Paul Allen's call on the Minneapolis Miracle or Bob Papa's on the Helmet Catch and subsequent Plax TD but correct, it does add to the pain.
Well, they're being paid by each team's broadcasting network,so they have to act upset. They're acting because it's sports entertainment. Nobody really loses because they still get paid.
The bills loss is the epitome of what's devastating in the NFL today. NO DEFENSE. The game is hardly watchable. With the acception of the bills loss Sunday.
It's crazy that in 2011, the Ravens lose in the AFC Championship to the Patriots because their kicker missed a chip shot field goal - and that's their most heartbreaking loss on this list. The next summer, they get Justin Tucker, who has been (at least on pace to be) the greatest kicker in NFL history. And he makes the kick in the 2012 AFC Divisional to hand the Broncos their most heartbreaking loss.
Or lee evans didn't haul it in. Its always better to leave it to a td than a kicker. Like when the Colts didn't score on the bettis fumble bcuz Harper couldn't get by big ben
I would argue that an even worse loss for the Broncos was the ‘96 Divisional Playoff against the 2nd Year Jaguars. One of the biggest playoff upsets and it absolutely shocked the Broncos.
I remember that! The week earlier they went into Buffalo and shocked everyone by beating the Bills. I was really wanting to see a final Bills-Broncos Kelly in his last chance at a championship vs Elway who looked like he was going to get another chance at a championship playoff game. I was feeling ok before the Jags-Bills game. Afterwards,I was upset and having headaches. Then, when they shocked the Broncos,I was so angry. Fortunately, Elway and the Broncos won Super Bowl XXXII a year later. In fact,in the 1997-98 season, there was a Broncos at Bills game which the Broncos won in OT. Imagine if that would've been a playoff game. That's what we missed out because of the Jaguars. Man,I was so ticked off about that!
@@dukes1993724 the Broncos faced the Jaguars again a year later in a wild card game. The Broncos opened up a 21-0 lead, the Jaguars scored 17 unanswered points then turned the ball over on a fumble in Denver territory and threw an interception on the following drive, all in the 3rd qtr. When the 4th qtr began, the Broncos had enough and stared pounding the Jaguars with the run game and scored, I think 3 more tds. They were so focused on beating the Jaguars and that focus and determination really helped them as they then beat the Chiefs and Steelers, both on the road,to get to and win Super Bowl XXXII.
26:25. That tackle single-handedly expired the 49ers dynasty, possible 3 peat, as well as Montanas career😢. Hope the 9ers can payback the favor some day!!!
@@marqkuisphillip2295 ESPN article later that week: The NFL said the refs botched the call on the final play, an unusual admission about an unusual game. A pass-interference penalty should have been called against the San Francisco 49ers at the end of their wild 39-38 playoff victory, giving New York another chance to kick a game-winning field goal, said Mike Pereira, NFL director of officiating. NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue commented on the play Tuesday. "What happened at the end in terms of the breakdown of officiating was totally unacceptable to us and it shouldn't have happened with the mechanics already in place,"
I'd say the packers have more. Super bowl 32, 2003 divisional round, 2007 NFC championship, 2009 Wild Card, 2014 NFC championship, 2015 divisional round, and 2020 NFC championship are just some of them.
@@CRMdrifter all very true. In my opinion it hurts a little more considering we only have one super bowl and few opportunities to get more. Who knows when we’ll have a really good QB again 🥲😭

Just seeing how many of these teams' most heartbreaking losses have been to the Patriots has been mind-boggling. SEVEN teams on this list lost to the Patriots. The list could be altered and changed, yes, but really puts into perspective just how dominating the Pats have been for the last 20 years or so.
At first I was like “man they got a lot of calls in their favor”, but I guess if you’re always in the playoffs you just have more chances for those calls.
And just how close we are to an alternate reality where the Patriots don't win any championships and Brady/Belichick are talked about as two of the biggest choke artists in NFL history. Small margins between historic levels of glory and bitter defeat.
I used to think that until I saw his diva attitude the following year with his Litle "RG3 coming back" video with is European born girlfriend being flagged around.. thank God Kirk Cousins saved the Redskins for a little while. HTTR! (or is it HTTC now, ha ha?)
YES U KNOW THE RAMS ONE OF THE very few SB FAVORITES TO LOSE yhe first lose to Brady some Vegas books 6 1/2 pts. The Colts 10 1/2 over Jets is all-time choke
It must have been difficult for the NFL Throwback editors to come up with just one Vikings heartbreaking playoff loss. Drew Pearson pushing off? Darrin Nelson dropping the game winning pass in Washington? Gary Anderson? 41-Donut? Favre throwing across his body against the Saints? NICK FOLES beating the brakes off the #1 ranked D? Oh yeah and any of the 4 Super Bowl losses.
Facts. The Minneapolis Miracle sucked. But at least the Saints actually made that mistake and deserved to lose because of it. The 2018 game was just sick because that was 1000% on the officials.
The only reason I can tolerate looking at that 23-20 loss to the Patriots in 2011, is knowing that the Ravens got revenge the following season on their way to a Superbowl victory.
As a Panthers fan, that loss in Super Bowl XXXVIII still stings almost twenty years later. The Cardiac Cats had the game within their grasp, but the kick out of bounds and frickin' Tom Brady killed any chances they had of going out on top.
@@benny6466 Braves had already won before, they were decent. Falcons are a joke that became even more of a joke since then, they wont win or even get close for many decades.
it's the kind of loss where i would understand if any falcon fan wanted to abandon their team and find a new one. everyone gives brady so much credit but that to me is more about a total team collapse
As a chiefs fan I gotta say the loss to Andrew Luck and the colts was more heartbreaking. I’d even put the loss to Mariota and the Titans above the loss to Brady in the championship game. Once we got Mahomes there was a sigh of relief knowing we could win playoff games, but before then the curse was real and painful.
I felt that those teams weren't going anywhere, but it would have been nice to win a game to break the streak. maybe the 2017 team could have won 1 more after the TItans. to lose in 2018 after the interception was nullified was a killer
Upshot I felt the same way. My two kids were devastated after that 2018 Championship loss. I was disappointed myself, no doubt about it. But I just knew with PM the curse was lifted.
Definitely agree as a Red Sox fan 2003 seems like a horrible loss in game 7 against the Yankees but it doesn’t really bug me knowing we broke the curse the following season
I'd argue for the Jets that their loss to the Steelers in the 2010 AFC Championship Game was the most heartbreaking. They had just come off a huge upset against the rival Patriots and were one drive away from completing the comeback. The Steelers 3rd and 6 conversion still haunts me to this day, and as of this writing, that is the most recent Jets playoff appearance. Also the AFC Championship Game loss to the Colts the year prior was pretty rough.
Doug briens two misses were also soul destroying. Herm purposely choosing to end a drive with tons of time left after they had just gotten a huge run and 1st down from lamont jordan is one if the single stupidest coaching decisions I've ever seen. Why on earth would you not try and get closer after Brien had JUST missed a FG? And of course the salt in the wound...Brien's first miss was a miss on what would've been the longest FG ever at HEinz. So naturally in game 1 next szn vinateri makes it lol
yeah. as a patriot fan that’s probably the best run yall’ve made in a minute. y’all were definitely a pain in the ass back then. who knows how it will go with Aaron Rodgers tho.
Yeah man that 2010 AFC championship game Jets vs Steelers was disappointing to me.The Jets had second year QB Mark Sanchez and weapons like Tomlinson,Holmes,Greene,Cole, and that tight end can't remember his name but damn. The Jets were loaded with talent and couldn't break through the playoffs to get to Super Bowl 45. 🤦♂️ There was no excuse for the Jets to get to the super bowl.I hope that the Jets get another super bowl both like they did in the 1968 season with Joe Namath.Jets shocked the world beating the 18 point favorite Colts in Super Bowl 3.
@@terrystyles3486 Did you watch this game? Everyone watching knew a Seahawks win was inevitable with the way Lynch was running the ball all game and on that drive. Thanks for including the radio calls from the losing side of some great defeats/collapses/impossible moments in NFL history. I had never heard the Seattle radio call of the Super Bowl 49 play. Very cool.
As a Steelers fan, I believe the '94 AFC championship loss to the Chargers was the most devastating. They had home field advantage against an inferior San Diego team and laid and egg at Three Rivers. Yeah, their Superbowl 30 loss to the Cowboys was disappointing, but they were the underdog as not many people thought they would knock off the dynastic Cowboys.
Excellent choice. I remember seeing that game and the Steelers were heavy favorites. It went down to the last play when they threw an incomplete pass in the end zone, and I couldn't believe the Chargers won. The Steelers certainly would have been a formidable opponent to the 49ers and Steve Young that year.
@@redpillfreedom6692 I recently watched that game. The Chargers played well but not otherworldly. The Steelers problem was simply they played way to safe for some reason and felt like "yeah we'll pull it out eventually" but they never did.
The 2014 NFC championship is just pure pain. Packers defense played at a higher level than Seattle’s and forced 5 turnovers. That onside kick recovery was like a stab through the heart💔 Can’t believe how we dominated the majority of the game but didn’t close it out😔😔
The first truly heartbreaking playoff loss I ever experienced was for the 1991 season: John Elway led the Broncos on what some call "The Drive II" converting on a couple of 4th downs to defeat the Oilers 26-24.
If the Oilers still exist, easily they could have almost a Top 5 heartbreaking losses, that 91 Broncos game, the comeback, the game on 93 against Montana and the Chiefs, the Steelers game on the 79 season where the refs screwed them. Alongside the Browns, I think that those franchises have the worst heartbreaking losses on playoff
As a fan of New Orleans the divisional loss to the 49ers on January 14, 2012 hurt worse. Many of us believed the 2011 crew was the best team the Saints ever put on the field, even better than the '09 team.
They were the best OFFENSE the Saints ever put on the field and one of the top 10 best offenses in the history of the league, but the defense was suspect which is why we lost that game. But I agree they should’ve won the Super Bowl in 2011 too.

Patrick Crayton stutter stepping to not catch the game winning td on the second before last play. That's 3 or more tds cowboys could have had if the receivers didn't drop easy balls.
As a fellow Saints fan, I knew which one it was, but when I saw the Diggs play I thought this list got it wrong, then I saw there were 2.... The fact that the Double Doink is probably the 3rd worst playoff loss in Bears history is depressing. (#1 being the Washington loss and #2 being the loss to the Packers in the NFC Championship game)
The double doink was way harder IMO. 2010 team had a good year but the packers were clearly the better team from the first drive. How the bears had a chance at the end with Haney is a miracle. I wasn’t alive for the Washington loss so can’t comment.

No way man, 2010 NFC Championship was much worse. The fact that the Packers won the Superbowl after that is agonizing. Neither of those other two games are even close I think.
1981 AFC Divisional: Raiders at Browns. Mike Davis's last minute INT of Brian Sipe just when it looked like the Browns were gonna pull it out was also an extremely heartbreaking loss for the Dawg Pound. I wanted so bad to see a 'Siper' Bowl
Viklings have 6 straight NFCC game losses. An all-time NFL record. They also have the most playoff losses in NFL history. Minnesotans truly have a black hole where the heart belongs.
You really think the Raiders loss in the "Tuck Rule" game was more heartbreaking than the "Immaculate Reception" game? Raiders' fans and ex-players are still grousing about that game 50 years later. Also, as a Colts fan I think the '95 PO loss to the Steelers ending a true "Cinderella season" on a missed last second hail Mary was a lot more heartbreaking than the '05 loss to those same Steelers, who outplayed us for the whole damn game. I also think blaming Gary Andersen for "losing" the '98 PO game is pure BS. The Vikings still had a 7-point lead, and the D lost the game, not Andersen.
Everyone is gonna talk about the Seahawks not running the ball down at the goal line, but the 49ers losing Montana and the chance to 3-peat was bigger than that
It's one of those what if moments. The 9ers were a contender for the next 5 years a d even won another super bowl. But they did it all without Montana because of that hit. Montana could've had more SBs under his belt for sure if he wouldn't have had to leave the 9ers and then the league 4 years later.
I'm not sure if you're implying they lost that game because they lost Montana. But Young did enough to win it. Roger Craig lost it. That play alone cost him the half of fame.
As much as Super Bowl 42 footage, logos, sound effects and moments still traumatize me, huge shout out for using the Patriots radio call and the legendary voice of the Patriots, Gil Santos, who is sadly no longer with us
That was actually a very good list. Most of the time these are filled with absolutely laughable selections, but I felt like you got nearly all of them right. The only ones I'd disagree with WFT: I'd pick their SB loss to the Raiders over a wildcard loss, though I understand that marked the end of RG3 Bears: I'd pick either their SB loss to Indy or the double doink game over your selection
I was going to say, Washington got *destroyed* in that Super Bowl and no one else came close to giving them a beating like that. The only other games they lost that year were both by one point.
It’s hard to not pick the 2010 NFC Championship game against the Packers for the Bears. Chicago was the host and let their longtime rival hoist the George Halas trophy in Soldier Field. Two weeks later Green Bay goes on to win the Super Bowl. I’ll never forget that game. The infamous Jay Cutler injury and all of the ex players calling him out on social media.
23:21 many people forget that the Vikings already had the lead before Gary Anderson's missed field goal. It would have made it a 2 possession game but ultimately it was the Vikings defense who blew it by allowing the Falcons to drive down the field in the last 2 minutes.
Thank you. I'm not a Vikings fan and I'm sick of the Gary Anderson slander. The Vikings' defense failed to keep the Falcons from scoring after that. Plus, it's not like Gary Anderson was a notoriously bad kicker like Cody Parkey.
Those freaking announcers jinxed Andersen pulled that he hasn't missed in forever line. And then as soon as I said that line right at the end of it he missed. Danny Green got all conservative though at the end. Was an offense like that we got conservative?? I mean remember him saying when they were going for that field goal you could hear him saying that a field goal wins it puts us up by 10 and that's probably true but why not just go for a fucking kill shot I guess that's what he thought he was doing.
@@tevinsherrill5653 I don't think anybody really blames Gary Anderson. I mean that's kind of the narrative but we all know that it was Danny Green that fucked it up and made the Vikings all conservative towards the end. Our defense was supar as well.

I'll never forget the Packers vs Seahawks in the NFC championship game. My fathers last Packer game alive. We had that game in the bag, and to see that trick play on the field goal, and then the Wilson hail marry, and then to top it off the Bostick botched onside kick recovery, I swear I have football PTSD from that game.

Looking at this list, Brady got a lot of luck and capitalized on em. Tuck rule, Ravens missed FG, KC lines up offsides, Jags blown lead/Mile Jack fumble recovery run, Falcons blown 28-3 lead, Seattle didn't run Lynch at the 2 yard line, Carolina kicks out of bounds in the Super Bowl, etc.

The Broncos most heartbreaking playoffs loss, I gotta say, would still have to be the 1996 Divisional loss to the Jaguars. The reason being that, despite Peyton Manning being a beloved part of Broncos history, John Elway was always The Man in Denver. 1996 looked like it was going to be their last, best chance at him winning a Super Bowl. Denver was far and away the best team in the AFC, and Jacksonville didn't look like they were going to be any serious competition. They were a 2nd year expansion franchise that barely squeezed into the playoffs. The Broncos were up 12-0 after the 1st Quarter and were rolling. And lost. The 2012 Ravens had been to the AFC Championship Game the previous season and were still a solid team that we knew could pull things off. The Jags came out of nowhere to win in 1996. Our jaws were wide open after the Broncos failed to convert that last onside kick. We all were like, "How could this happen?!?" That's the difference. Oh, and The Ice Bowl. People all over the area had trouble starting their cars that morning, and there were reports that at least one person died in the stands due to exposure. It was so cold that they canceled the marching band performance at halftime and the referees got rid of their whistles because they were sticking to their lips. What was it, -15* in Green Bay that afternoon? I still love hearing Vince's admonishment to Bart Starr before that final QB sneak. "Okay, run it, then let's get the Hell out of here."
The Jags loss was FAR more disappointing than what happened in 2012. Recency bias. Denver had the NFL's best record in 1996 and lost at home to an expansion team.
As a Chiefs fan, the epic collapses against the Colts in 2013 and Titans in 2018 hurt way more than that loss to the Patriots. While it sucked losing to the Evil Empire, with Patrick Mahomes it feels like we always have shot, rather than the impending sense of dread that I always had pre-Mahomes that we were going to somehow snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
@@NeverSober8008 If you told me in 2017 that the Chiefs would host the next 4 AFC Championship games and win a Super Bowl though, 2017 me would take it in a heart beat. Pre-Mahomes in the playoffs the Chiefs were 9-18 (over 55 years). With Mahomes, they are 8-3 (in 4 years). Although I hate to assume, it is likely that Mahomes will have the same or more playoff wins in 5 years than the rest of the 55 year team history. The same amount of playoff wins in 9.1% of the time. Even though this last one hurt (and it did, but kudos to the Bengals. Their game plan clearly worked), it's still far better than where they were.
NFL Throwback is freaking amazing, it was what I was waiting for on TH-cam for the longest time. Learning and watching about great football before my time as a fan.
Lots of recency bias in some of these picks. Chargers’ loss to a depleted Oilers team in ‘79 or the loss to the Raiders in ‘80 were at least as bad as the Patriots game. Washington’s shellacking in Super Bowl XVIII to the Raiders was worse than RGIII getting hurt. Older Cowboys fans have always told me the loss to the Colts in Super Bowl V was way worse than the Packers NFL title losses. And speaking of the Colts, Super Bowl III????! Anyway… Hard disagree on the Steelers toughest playoff loss. Super Bowl XXX was frustrating, but the loss the year before to the Chargers in the AFC Championship Game was worse. 2001 AFC Championship against the Patriots was bad too. Way tougher to lose as a big home favorite than to lose in a game you weren’t necessarily expected to win. Even if it is the Super Bowl. How about the loss to the Raiders without Harris and Bleier in ‘76? Any older fans remember that one?
Agreed. Getting embarrassed in the Super Bowl as the record-breaking defending champions is way worse than a Wild Card loss. Same with the Colts; they completely shat the bed as enormous favorites on the biggest stage. It's such a historic loss that it is inextricably woven into the fabric of the league's history. Also, the Broncos being upset by the Jaguars in 1996 and suffering the worst ass-kicking in Super Bowl history had to be worse or at least on par with the Mile High Miracle
Oh yeah, a LOT of recency bias here. As a Lions fan, the most heartbreaking loss was the NFC Championship game vs. Washington. Yes, it was a blowout, but it was the closest the Lions ever got to the Super Bowl in what was a dream-come-true season. The Redskins then stomped on it. It's been back to the drawing board ever since.
I am surprised you said 01 and not 04 AFC champ. The steelers team was far better but I can see why you chose 01- that team was given energy by Brady at such an improbable time.
I am a seahawk fan but It's not that bad because at least we got a super bowl out of that team. I'd rather have tough losses in the playoffs than be a fan of the Lions, or Jets and watch my team miss the playoffs almost every year. That's real pain in my opinion.
Cowboys had 2 on here and they could have included The Catch, the last second SB V loss, the Jackie Smith dropped pass in SB XIII, the Dez no catch, or Rodgers ridiculous 3rd & 20 conversion in 2016.
I'd think Dez no catch has to be it. That was the best Cowboys team of the 21st century top to bottom, and that call ruined both Romo's and Dez's careers. In another reality, those two go on to become hall of famers

As a Cowboy fan, there's no way the 1966 NFL Title game was more heartbreaking than Dwight Clark making "The Catch." The 1966 Cowboys were a young, green playoff team facing the dynastic Packers. The overall mood was that their time would come. There was little expectation they would win, and no shame when they did. '66 was heartbreaking in that they were right there on the 2-yard line to tie, send the game into OT with all the momentum and they ran into those big game screwups Landry never seemed to get blamed for (one referenced in North Dallas Forty) -- Bob Hayes, who wasn't usually in that package, was in and required to block the D-lineman who engulfed Meredith. I'd say the Super Bowl V loss was worse. Colts scores came on a 75-yard double-tipped pass, a 2-yard TD drive after an INT and the game-winning FG after an INT. Dallas led 13-6 when Thomas fumbled near the goal line and Dave Manders actually recovered, but refs gave Colts the ball.
The fact that the most embarrassing playoff loss for the Bears in this video is NOT represented by the "Double Doink" is, in fact, embarrassing. 3 years later and the after-effects are still being felt, and will continue to be for a long time.
That wasn't their most embarrassing playoff loss, that would be 2010 against GB in the championship game. The double doink wasn't a surprise to any Bears fans that watched that season, Parkey hit the upright 4 times on 1 game that season, foreshadowing the eventually playoff loss.

Great list. The only arguable corrections: Washington: 1984 Super Bowl XVIII vs. Los Angeles Raiders. That was an all-time team, and they got spanked by a time they were expected (and favored) to beat easily. Jacksonville: 1999 AFC Championship vs. Tennessee Titans. It’s tough to think about Blake Bortles stating a Super Bowl dispute the Jaguars controlling the game. That ‘99 was super stacked and arguably their greatest team and lost to a division rival they had lost to (changed) twice during the season. Oakland Raiders: 1972 Divisional vs Pittsburgh Steelers. Immaculate Reception. Voted by NFL Network as the greatest play in NFL History. A statue of this play sits at Pittsburgh’s major airport. Even Coach Madden (RIP) denied the validity of the result to his dying day. As a Raider fan, I’d give this one a slight edge of the “Tuck Rule” Game because of its historic significance. Denver Broncos: AFC Divisional vs. Jacksonville Jaguars. This lost to a then-recent expansion team almost ended John Elway’s career, and the Broncos went on a two year championship run directly afterwards. Like I said, these are all arguable.
Also.. Dallas: 1979 Super Bowl XIII vs. Pittsburgh Steeler. Jackie Smith's dropped TD in the 3rd quarter, Cowboys had to settle for a FG which was the difference as they lost 35-31. Los Angeles: 1980 Super Bowl vs. Pittsburgh Steelers. Home-field advantage for the Rams, almost won but Vince Farragamo threw INT to Jack Lambert late in the 4th quarter.
I’m biased but I still think Seahawks take that. Falcons was so gradual that you could see it coming. Seahawks fans were ALL convinced the game was done, touchdown guaranteed and in only 3 seconds, it was instantly lost. Can’t explain the shock. I just went home and laid on the couch and stared at the ceiling the rest of the night.
I feel that play not only ended the game, but also ended the Seahawks' dynasty to-be. Pete lost a lot of the locker room after that. They never recovered from that.
You know what has confused me ever since that happened? When Lynch runs the ball from the 6 down to the 1, play is stopped with a little over a minute left. Belichick and the Pats have a TO in hand and they dont use, letting the clock run down to under 30 seconds. Why would they let that clock run down? Almost like NE knew what SEA was gonna do so didnt worry about time remaining. I know everyone always focuses on the play that followed, and for good reason, RUN THE DAMN BALL, but I will never understand why NE, about to fall behind in the SB, let all that time run off the clock without a TO they had.
I am also biased. And that bias makes a part of me happy that you got to feel the pain of your team losing a game they should not have been in since that should have been my Packers instead. It is the one and only time I rooted for Tom Brady and the Patriots
I know it's pretty standard for folks to complain about the playcall, but if it had worked, it would have been heralded as brilliant. "Of course New England is expecting Lynch to run it. What better way to trip them up than a short pass instead?"
@@Gamer2k4 sure but it’s head scratching they don’t try Lynch at least once on the goal line. They had 3 more downs to work with and 1 more timeout. That should’ve been a play-call for 3rd or 4th down.
You throw the pass on 2nd down because you only have 1 timeout. If you run and get stopped you have to use your T.O. AND you have to pass on 3rd down - with the Pats expecting it. Lynch was getting the ball on 1st, 3rd and 4th down if necessary. Pats had stuffed Marshawn for a loss or no gain 5 times that game. people forget what an incredible play Butler made on the ball and to hold onto it through contact.
I knew someone in that game, it was his last time to suit up as a lion, he was killed in the offseason by an 18 wheeler going off the road and hitting him in his front yard mowing his lawn. He died 2 days later... RIP Eric...
@@valeriefolse9452 That was so sad what happened to him. He was becoming a really good Guard for us. I made it a point to collect all of his trading cards after that happened. I was only 7 at the time and obsessed with the Lions, so I memorized every player on the team. Sorry for your loss.
8:05 is one of the most egregious and not talked about drops in NFL history. That was a game winning catch to beat Brady and go to the Super Bowl!! Yet when he caught it, he held it so casually and the defender easily stripped it out. Man if that were me, I’d catch that thing and hold it closer than if it were my newborn baby I'm protecting from a lion!! Just unacceptable, man.
I'm surprised the "Immaculate Reception" wasn't the worst playoff loss for the Raiders. The "Tuck Rule" game was devastating, but that loss to the Steelers was tragic and epic all rolled up in one!
@@thomasl4270 but the tuck rule gave us ShadyBrady so yes, that game was far worse. On top of the fact that those 70's Steelers were loaded, and with or without the immaculate reception, they still would have been a dynasty. Combine no tuck rule with a healthy Bledsoe, and in an alternate universe, we'd never have been subjected to that piece of crap
Even though the one selected for the Chiefs is a more recent painful loss. I'm old enough to still feel the pain from the '71 double OT loss to Miami on Christmas day.
Lynch was getting the ball on 1st, 3rd and 4th down if necessary. But with only one timeout you had to pass on at least one down. Pats had stuffed Marshawn for a loss or no gain 5 times that game. People forget what an incredible play Butler made on the ball and to hold onto it through contact.
@John Cena Maybe, but if you run on 2nd down and don't get in - you HAVE to use your last T.O. and then you HAVE to pass on 3rd down. You basically tell the defense what you are going to do. If you are incomplete on 2nd down you can run OR pass on 3rd and 4th down.
Exactly. People criticize the call too much. The real culprit was Russ not throwing it where only the receiver could catch it and the other receiver not blocking Malcom Butler.
@@jeremyc9593 Jeremy - you are 100% incorrect. The Pats had an excellent goal line defense v. the rush that season. You clearly couldn't comprehend what has been written in this thread.

@@mackeydirk8643 Mendenhalls fumble was early in the 4th. It was a huge play, but the steelers still had a chance late in the game. The cowboys did nothing in the second half. If it wasn't for those 2 gifts, the steelers had a really good chance of winning
Pretty good for the most part. I’d have thought the Lin Elliott game would have been the one for the Chiefs I’d also have put the immaculate reception as the one for the Raiders. You could argue that Red Right 88 was the most damaging play in Cleveland history in hindsight because that Raiders team went onto win the Super Bowl.
As a Patriots fan, I can honestly say that Super Bowl 42 wasn't it. It was the year before in the AFC Championship game against the Colts. Blowing a 21-3 lead to lose 38-34, and Rêche Caldwell driven out of New England

When the 4th qtr began, the Broncos had enough and stared pounding the Jaguars with the run game and scored, I think 3 more tds. The fact that the Double Doink is probably the 3rd worst playoff loss in Bears history is depressing. (#1 being the Washington loss and #2 being the loss to the Packers in the NFC Championship game)
To be fair it was only the Wild Card game. If that happened in the NFC Championship or Super bowl it would their worst for sure
The double doink was way harder IMO. 2010 team had a good year but the packers were clearly the better team from the first drive. How the bears had a chance at the end with Haney is a miracle. I wasn’t alive for the Washington loss so can’t comment.

@@dn8750 Let's not forget the Twinks 18-straight game losing streak in the playoffs. Another all-time record. Minnesota really just is a black hole.
On the other hand, I'm still pissed about the Tuck Rule, and fully expect to still be pissed off 50 years from now. :)
Oh, Raiders fans are still bitching about the tuck rule game to be sure…
Everyone is gonna talk about the Seahawks not running the ball down at the goal line, but the 49ers losing Montana and the chance to 3-peat was bigger than that
Especially because that hit ended the 49ers Montana era. He never really got over that injury.
It's one of those what if moments. The 9ers were a contender for the next 5 years a d even won another super bowl. But they did it all without Montana because of that hit. Montana could've had more SBs under his belt for sure if he wouldn't have had to leave the 9ers and then the league 4 years later.
All due respect, but ABSOLUTELY NOT. SEA call at the 1 yard line was by far the worst and most dumbest call all-time in the history of the NFL.
So painful that it started another hall of famers career?
I'm not sure if you're implying they lost that game because they lost Montana. But Young did enough to win it. Roger Craig lost it. That play alone cost him the half of fame.
As much as Super Bowl 42 footage, logos, sound effects and moments still traumatize me, huge shout out for using the Patriots radio call and the legendary voice of the Patriots, Gil Santos, who is sadly no longer with us
The Vikings could’ve had the Hail Mary, 1987 drop on the goal line, 1998, 2009 Brett Farve int, and the 2015 Blair Walsh miss.
Then 2 of the ass kicking we got against the Eagles and 49ers 😔
As a Bears fan, I thought that the double doink was going to be in here.
Same. Maybe because it was during a Wild Card game and not an NFC Championship Game.
Me too
That was actually a very good list. Most of the time these are filled with absolutely laughable selections, but I felt like you got nearly all of them right. The only ones I'd disagree with
WFT: I'd pick their SB loss to the Raiders over a wildcard loss, though I understand that marked the end of RG3
Bears: I'd pick either their SB loss to Indy or the double doink game over your selection
I was going to say, Washington got *destroyed* in that Super Bowl and no one else came close to giving them a beating like that. The only other games they lost that year were both by one point.

Two weeks later Green Bay goes on to win the Super Bowl. I’ll never forget that game. The infamous Jay Cutler injury and all of the ex players calling him out on social media.
Double Doink was pretty bad.
The worst part is that they lost because of a big man pick six.
Stupid bears blew it by not building around Cutler!
Absolutely correct. That Jaguars loss probably kept us from a three-peat.
The Jags loss was FAR more disappointing than what happened in 2012. Recency bias. Denver had the NFL's best record in 1996 and lost at home to an expansion team.
I’ll never get over 18-1…….or Samuel’s dropped INT…..

The one that hurts even more than those is the 1995 AFC Divisional Playoff. One of the saddest nights of my childhood.

I thought the worst game for Miami would be when Ray Finkle missed that heartbreaking field goal wide right in the Superbowl!
Anyway…
Hard disagree on the Steelers toughest playoff loss.
All good stuff! It's really hard for some teams to just pick one, isn't it?
And was the Tuck Game really a worse loss for the Raiders than The Immaculate Reception? And the Ice Bowl for the Cowboys was an obvious choice.

Both teams will now have a possession in overtime in the playoffs so the bills will now have a chance in OT with this change to postseason rules
Great list. The only arguable corrections:
Washington: 1984 Super Bowl XVIII vs.

That should’ve been a play-call for 3rd or 4th down.
i have that t-shirt. just a beaut.
@@Gamer2k4 ON THE 1 YD LINE?
You throw the pass on 2nd down because you only have 1 timeout. If you run and get stopped you have to use your T.O. AND you have to pass on 3rd down - with the Pats expecting it. Lynch was getting the ball on 1st, 3rd and 4th down if necessary. Pats had stuffed Marshawn for a loss or no gain 5 times that game. people forget what an incredible play Butler made on the ball and to hold onto it through contact.
The Lions heartbreaking lost was the 1993 wild card game against the Packers.93 was the last time the Lions won a division title.
Pat Summeral's "there will be no three peat" still haunts my dreams.
I'm surprised the "Immaculate Reception" wasn't the worst playoff loss for the Raiders. The "Tuck Rule" game was devastating, but that loss to the Steelers was tragic and epic all rolled up in one!
I agree, the Raiders may be the great AFC franchise of the 70s if they win that game
The ball was out BEFORE Brady "tucked" it. Terrible call by the refs
@@ryanstatt9910 You sad bruh?
@@thomasl4270 But the Raiders benefitted from a bogus roughing the passer call v. N.E. in '76 so there's that
I gotta say that the most heartbreaking loss for the New Orleans Saints was the 2018 NFC Championship Game against the Rams on the no PI call.
Even though the one selected for the Chiefs is a more recent painful loss. I'm old enough to still feel the pain from the '71 double OT loss to Miami on Christmas day.
Jan Stenerud ... Hall of Fame kicker, unfortunately had the worst game of his life that day. I felt for you guys.
Great point!!👍
Pats were one of the worst GL defenses that year. It's still the worst call in NFL history.
@@jeremyc9593 Jeremy - you are 100% incorrect.
The Pats had an excellent goal line defense v. the rush that season. You clearly couldn't comprehend what has been written in this thread.
The most devastating loss in Dolphins playoff history: 1994 Divisional Round at San Diego. Dolphins dominate the 1st half up 21-6...fall behind 22-21 at the end of the 4th...Marino leads one final comeback drive...gets to San Diego's 30...Stoyo misses the game winning kick wide right. We should have played the 49ers in the Super Bowl that year.
Honorable mentions:
Baltimore: Blowing two 14-point leads in New England
Buffalo: Music City Miracle, 13 Seconds
Chicago: Double Doink
Dallas: Romo botching the snap in Seattle
Green Bay: 4th and 26
Indianapolis: Hail Mary pass hits Aaron Bailey in the chest before falling incomplete
Las Vegas: Immaculate Reception
Pittsburgh: Getting Tebowed on the first play of OT
As a Steeler fan ....for the Ravens....Steelers come back to beat Ravens in the divisional round of the 2010 playoffs.....for the Browns....Steelers come back and beat them in the 2002 playoffs.....for the Steelers.....Joe Nedneys acting job gets a second FG attempt after the miss in OT and the Steelers lose to the Titans in the 2002 playoffs....also Mendenhall's fumble late in SB45 which essentially ended the Steeler's chances of coming all the way back for the win against the Packers.
No matter what anyone says, AARON BAILEY CAUGHT IT
Just added “13 Seconds” to Buffalo’s honorable mention.
I’d have thought the Lin Elliott game would have been the one for the Chiefs
I’d also have put the immaculate reception as the one for the Raiders.
You could argue that Red Right 88 was the most damaging play in Cleveland history in hindsight because that Raiders team went onto win the Super Bowl.
I still can’t believe they didn’t hand the ball to Beast Mode. That clip could make every NFL compilation 😂
As a Giants fan it warms my heart seeing the first game in this montage. 💙💙💙
Youngsters might not know but those giants teams were nasty
😭 Still haunts my dreams as a Pats fan
@@Blackphillipsupporter Yeah it fucking sucks.
Still gives me joy and to beat them again years later gives me more joy
As a Patriots fan, I can honestly say that Super Bowl 42 wasn't it. It was the year before in the AFC Championship game against the Colts. Blowing a 21-3 lead to lose 38-34, and Rêche Caldwell driven out of New England
Poor ol' Reche. I said to my family after his second drop when he was completely uncovered "he won't be back next year."
I agree, that hurt the worst BUT in his defense a brand new slick ball was used on every play back then...this game changed that rule. I wanted that rematch with the bears BAAAAAAD but it was not to be
Yeah was bad too. So was other SB loss to Giants and 1 to Eagles.
As well as 20-18 loss vs Broncos, in Denver, when Pats had worst 2 pt conversion attempt in history.
@@aspenrebel yeah, but that Broncos defense was playing lights out..
@@jeff3putt yeah I know but still sucked!!
For the Cowboys, I would also include Jackie Smith's dropped touchdown catch in Super Bowl XIII.
That Dez catch in 2014 was also a heartbreaker
RG3's career being ruined was far worse than the playoff loss.
Yea he was supposed to be the next big thing and I forgot all about him
@@mikesharon2177 - I really liked that guy. He was (is) a class act.
