Your parents will have a great impact on your life. No one else knows you better and no one else will influence you more than your parents. Having said this, you have the holy spirit in your heart and often this will lead you away from your parents' lifestyle and values. Always listen to God and don't compromise your soul for anyone in this world - including your parents.

The same has happened to me to where I’m choosing not to say anything back because I feel like it causes a argument and I don’t want to sin. I just stay quiet. And continue doing what I’m doing. I’m not going to stop running after my lord and savior. If they chose to not do the same I can’t make them even though I wish they would. But I just pray for them. 🛐love and peace to you all and god bless

@@richgonzales8468 Right, but you have to understand it in the context it is in. Luke 14:25-33 describes the cost at which Discipleship takes, towards Jesus. Wouldn't you think it doesn't make sense for Jesus to be teaching to love your neighbor as yourself, and then basically tell the opposite here? What we know is that Jesus doesn't want us to "hate" in the way that you think it means. Otherwise it'd be contradictory, tell me, what does hate bring/cause? Surely none other than conflict. Did Jesus come to bring conflict between family? I don't believe so. So therefore he does not mean for you to hate family in the expense of what it truly means to follow Him, but rather if you love family over Him (Jesus), you, as He stated, cannot be His disciple.

Great explanation! Everybody struggles with this passage at first glance but Jesus is simply saying that HE must be preeminent in our life. So... in what order do we put things... is it ..job/family/God....is it family/God/job? God must be first...then family, then everything else will fall into place according to His will and plan. For sure, a very touchy subject. Jesus is tough on many subjects.. but He is always right... you can trust Him)

I agreed that you have to get your priorities straight and Jesus comes first. What I don't get is why call it hate. After all that Jesus said, asking us to hate people close to us doesn't make sense. There must be a better explanation. Besides, Jesus is not asking us to hate, he says "If you don't hate..... you can't be my disciple." Why is it interpreted as if he is telling us to hate? Hate is a very strong word. I trust Jesus is right, but I need to know why. This video didn't explain that.

Number one in a person's life is the Lord, second is life in all of the universe, third is love of your fellow Earth persons. forth is love of your country, fifth is love of your community, sixth is love of your family, seventh is love of yourself. The love of the Lord corresponds to your head, the love of yourself is your feet. Most people on Earth are standing on their heads!!

The word is translated incorrectly. It comes from the Greek word: Miseo, which means to be be hated by someone. A verb. So in this context, Jesus is warning his followers saying that they WILL be hated by their families if they choose to follow him. And he's not just talking to those people present with him at that time, its a message for all future Christians; for we are the most persecuted peoples due to our strong belief and faith in Jesus - and most of that persecution starts with the ones we love most, for it is them that we will give up our faith in order to feel safe, love and included. Jesus is saying that we put our faith, love and safety in our dedication to Jesus's teachings, we will be detested and hated - which is the meaning of the word in the translation. God bless you all.

upon further reflection and guidance, we need to focus on all what Jesus says and in what context and the reason he says it. Picking out one particular thing without looking at the bigger picture and trying to understand this as if it stands on its own is going to send us off confused. Remember Jesus is not asking us to hate THE VERY PEOPLE He’s asking us to love. Keep that in mind; there’s another reason why he asks us to hate; Hating them in our capacity and loving Jesus means to pursue Jesus before anyone else. In doing so only then will we have the capacity to LOVE OTHERS With God’s love not our limited love. I hope this poignant message resonates with you. God bless you!

Then said Jesus: 'There was a man on a journey who, as he was walking, discovered a treasure in a field that was to be sold for five pieces of money. Straightway the man, when he knew this, sold his cloak to buy that field. Is that credible?"
The disciples answered: 'He who would not believe this is mad.'
Thereupon Jesus said: 'Ye will be mad if ye give not your senses to God to buy your soul, wherein resideth the treasure of love; for love is a treasure incomparable. For he that loveth God hath God for his own; and whoso hath God hath everything.'
Peter answered: 'O master, how ought one to love God with true love? Tell thou us.'
Jesus replied: 'Verily I say unto you that he who shall not hate his father and his mother, and his own life, and children and wife for love of God, that such an one is not worthy to be loved of God.'
Peter answered: 'O master, it is written in the law of God in the book of Moses: "Honour thy father, that thou mayest live long upon the earth." And further he saith: "Cursed be the son that obeyeth not his father and his mother"; wherefore God commanded that such a disobedient son should be by the wrath of the people stoned before the gate of the city. And now how biddest thou us to hate father and mother?'
Jesus replied: 'Every word of mine is true, because it is not mine, but God's, who hath sent me to the house of Israel. Therefore I say unto you that all that which ye possess God hath bestowed it upon you: and so, whether is the more precious, the gift or the giver? When thy father and thy mother, with every other thing is a stumbling-block to thee in the service of God, abandon them as enemies. Did not God say to Abraham: "Go forth from the house of thy father and of thy kindred, and come to dwell in the land which I will give to thee and to thy seed?" And wherefore did God say this, save because the father of Abraham was an image-maker, who made and worshipped false gods? Whence there was enmity between them insomuch that the father wished to burn his son.'
Peter answered: 'True are thy words, wherefore I pray thee tell us how Abraham mocked his father.'
Jesus replied: 'Abraham was seven years old when he began to seek God. So one day he said to his father: "Father, what made man?"
'The foolish father answered: "Man; for I made thee, and my father made me."
Abraham answered: "Father, it is not so; for I have heard an old man weeping and saying: 'O my God, wherefore hast thou not given me children?'"
'His father replied: "It is true, my son, that God helpeth man to make man, but he putteth not his hand thereto; it is only necessary that man come to pray to his God and to give him lambs and sheep, and his God will help him."
'Abraham answered: "How many gods are there, father?"
'The old man replied: "They are infinite in number, my son."
'Then said Abraham: "O father, what shall I do if I shall serve one god and another shall wish me evil because I serve him not? In any wise there will come discord between them, and so war will arise among the gods. But if perchance the god that willeth me evil shall slay my own god, what shall I do? It is certain that he will slay me also."
'The old man, laughing, answered: "O son, have no fear, for no god maketh war upon another god; nay, in the great temple there are a thousand gods with the great god Baal; and I am now nigh seventy years old, and yet never have I seen that one god hath smitten another god. And assuredly all men do not serve one god, but one man one, and another another."
'Abraham answered: "So, then, they have peace among themselves?"
    'Said his father: "They have."
'Then said Abraham: "O father, what be the gods like?"
'The old man answered: "Fool, every day I make a god, which I sell to others to buy bread, and thou knowest not what the gods are like!" And then at that moment he was making an idol. "This," said he, "is of palm wood, that one is of olive, that little one is of ivory: see how fine it is! Does it not seem as though it were alive? Assuredly, it lacks but breath!"
'Abraham answered: "And so, father, the gods are without breath? Then how do they give breath? And being without life, how give they life? It is certain, father, that these are not God."
'The old man was wroth at these words, saying: "If thou wert of age to understand, I would break thy head with this axe: But hold thy peace, because thou hast not understanding!"
'Abraham answered: "Father, if the gods help to make man, how can it be that man should make the gods? And if the gods are made of wood, it is a great sin to burn wood. But tell me, father, how is it that, when thou hast made so many gods, the gods have not helped thee to make so many other children that thou shouldest become the most powerful man in the world?"

Sometimes we do need to disobey our parents in order to honour Jesus. I pray for all young ones who have done this. One example would be the cult I was involved in, whereby parents were instructed to shun their own children if they left being a Jehovah's Witness and became Born Again as a Christian. I notice the scripture quoted here shows Jesus saying that people need to show themselves worthy of himself and not of another god. Matthew 10:37. Hence this really proves he is God here. Elena Roche It is an expression of comparison. He is essentially saying that you are to love Him so much, that your love for even your own family is hatred by comparison. God is first and foremost, then comes your family. You have to understand who you serve, not trying to please man, but God.

    • @ElenaRoche
      @ElenaRoche 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@limpingllama57 Yes, I get that interpretation, but I don't "buy it." Why use the word hate? Why make that extreme of a comparison? We are to love our neighbor as ourselves. How can we then be ok with coming off as hateful towards someone. Putting Jesus first and spouse second for an example is not hate, not even close. Hate is a very strong word associated with very negative feelings. There has to be a better explanation. Was something lost in translation?

    • @limpingllama57
      @limpingllama57 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Elena Roche Alright, fair question. When studying a challenging verse myself, I check a few things. First, nothing was lost in translation, the word Luke used was the Greek 'miseō' meaning "to hate, pursue with hatred, detest." So, since the wording is accurate, the next step for me is to consider what the rest of the Bible says. As you noted, everywhere else in the Bible is abundantly clear: we are to not, under any circumstance, hate somebody. Obviously Christ did not change His mind, so we have to find what is truly meant. Taking the verse by itself is difficult, for a reason. Looking at context, Jesus was determined to make disciples, not faithless crowds, so to thin out the undevoted, He made a hard statement that was undoubtedly controversial, so as to prove a point. He followed up the hard statement with "Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him..." This clears up the controversy, Jesus was not saying, "hate everybody but me," but was saying to count the costs, know that you must be willing to give up all to follow Him. An example would be one's family, whom they undoubtedly love. Should their family say, "renounce Jesus or you're dead to us," you are to entirely disregard it, as if spoken by the words of your enemy, because you have a new responsibility, not to pleasing your family, but to do the work Christ assigned you. Some in this crowd undoubtedly heard this and left, like the rich young ruler did, as they were not ready to devote all to Christ. This was Jesus' goal, as well as teach His disciples, letting them know what was due them should they continue following Him.
A wonderful counter-reference is Matthew 10:34, where Christ says something else controvertial, “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household. He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me." I hope this helps, sorry if it's all over, let me know if I can explain anything better.

    • @limpingllama57

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me''.... - If this is true, it means the entire old testament is not certain to be the word of God , for it was written before Jesus was born or known about. People wrote the first testament about God from having relationships with God? But according to Jesus - that isn't possible...unless he meant from now on...but he doesn't say (from now on) "no one comes to the father except through me" . He says ''no one comes to father except through me''.... so either he is lying or the old testament might not really be the word of God ...

The old testament is full of lies and Satanic works. If you want truth, seek the Apocrypha of John and the Nag Hammadi texts. Then revisit the Bible. Old and New. Jesus is the answer - you just need to find gnosis in that.

Because if you look at the Greek word 'μισεῖ' which is the word for hate in Luke 14:26, it is only ever used in strict harshness the other 6 times it occurs in scripture. There is no poetic or idiomatic element to either the most concerning word in the sentence, or any indicator that there was some vagueness in the original broader Greek manuscript sentence at all.
What this means is that the sentence reads just like it does in the English, and communicates the same value. There is no 'context of the original language' which can be used to defend against what the passage appears to be saying. Instead, people must ramble on telling unrelated stories, and hope that the stories help people forget what the passage explicitly and clearly says.

If our parents tract record is trust our parents should confirm God’s calling in our lives. This verse is one of comparison. Meaning, our love for Jesus COMPARED to our love with our parents, spouse, etc is like hate. This IS not saying to dishonor parents or leave your spouse, especially those that have enabled your life to serve Jesus. The Bible is its BEST interpreter of itself. To think we can or should “hate” our parents in the name of God should tell us that interpretation is dead wrong. MANY false teachers today are using this verse to lead away many young people... in the name of “God” when they usually want something from us... ask yourself what do they want? Don’t be fooled!

The love of Jesus means the love of christ consciousness, or full consciousness. When he said you need to hate your mother and father, he was referring to the inevitable stage of the spiritual awakening and healing process where you fully recognize how your parents screwed you up and limited you through their deliberate, or unconscious wounds. It's lent when these demons are best faced, on your own, so that you can free yourself of co-dependency, and the negative behaviour patterns/cptsd they gave you. To heal, you have to feel the negative suppressed emotions from your conditioning and education, including hate. Hate, is, in fact, the emotion that drives the spiritual healing process.

I will try my best to explain this passage in the Bible from my view point we must take into account that Jesus is an Enlightened Being with an above average than mortal understanding of this realm and is showing signs of precognitive ability as each day progresses if you read 14:27 he says whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me can not be my disciple which signifies that he even knows his Mortal path in this realm is to be painfully beaten tortured and crucified and he is being surrounded by a multitude of people at this point who most likely in his precognitive vision stood by and watched jeered as he was beaten and crucified he is also aware of the fact that everyone abandons him to this fate and the only one who feels remorse or love for him would rather die than see him get crucified and commits suicide before it happens (Judas Iscariot) he was known to act in Anger at times like the event in the temple where he whipped a group of merchants or bankers his words denote a bit of emotion at this point but if you truly are a disciple of Jesus you will find people mocking you behind your back making jokes about your faith ridiculing you or thinking you gullible if you hold yourself to the high moral standards set out for you in the Bible you will find yourself alone, but you are not People from all walks of life stuck to their beliefs for their own personal reasons you may have never met them but they lived and died just like you in the past present and future. Jesus is speaking to these people there is a Hierarchy in the after-life there are powerless people, semi powerful people, powerful, super powerful, and then Omnipotent Power what Jesus set out to achieve in this realm was gaining Omnipotent power we as Christians believe that he accomplished this goal. (I don't want to dissuade someone from achieving Omnipotence if that is what you are seeking you may one day accomplish that but that is your own personal Story Jesus is by the Bible's account the Alpha and the Omega The first and the last one to achieve this level of power at least in this realm as far as we know.) What does it mean to hate your Mother, Father, Children Wife even your own life it means these people all turned their backs on you because you chose to be a Good Moral Upstanding person following Jesus you hate what they have become and you hate your life because you feel abandoned by all. Jesus just wants you to know you have taken your cross and you will be Eternally rewarded with a greater amount of free-will and power after your Mortal Death. Anyone who is still alive after a certain age who is Mortal will learn to hate their life that is just a sad truth if you want me to elaborate more on this Bible passage I can but I don't have enough time right now I hope this helps.

When Jesus says in that verse :''If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.''... - it is very clear whats being said. Especially if you look at a more modern translation of the same verse.
If your father or wife are angry at you - you should still love them not hate them....Hatred isn't Good. God is good. God is about love and kindness and forgiveness and understanding etc. Hating your mother, father, brother sister and wife and children and life is NOT a good thing... Our lives are a gift from God . We should be grateful of the life God has given us and love our families...
This verse might be revealing something that a lot of people might think wrong to even consider... But it's right there written clearly for you to see exactly as it is.
Do you really think someone saying that they won't have you as their disciple if you don't hate life and your own family is someone of God?

    • @level7572
      @level7572 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@Tin Damn I kind of thought you may of meant that , but what I want to point out is that God is actually a non human paranormal entity. Now some people believe in God and some don't. It's everyone's right to decide what they believe or believe in. But these verses (well the whole bible actually) was written by people. Human beings, not God. People in the bible are claiming things they say to be the word of God or things *of God.
This *could* be true, but we seem to not think about the fact that anyone can write things down and anyone can lie... So what I'm trying to do in regards to God and the Devil ( for those who believe they exist even if the bible hadn't of been written) is to point out that God (if you believe in God) , is Good and that the Devil (if you believe the Devil exists), Is Evil.
I'm pointing out the obvious here for those who do believe they exist
to show how you can easily see if something written is of one or the other. For example if you put the word EVIL and the word GOOD on a whiteboard or screen as two separate categories and then got words like Love or hatred and looked at where they went then it would be pretty easy to see what was really of God and what was actually of the Devil ( if you believe they exist and that God is good and the Devil is evil)
Now I'm not saying this would also work the same with determining if things in your actual life were Good or Evil . It might but it might not. But it would be able to pretty easily determine what *written things were Evil or Good .
As in if we are talking about the verse that says you should hate your life and family in order to be a disciple well just look at what category some of those words would come under. Would you put the word hate under the category GOOD or EVIL? In this case I wouldn't think hating your own life and family in order to be a disciple would be a good thing ...
Because if you get along with family and like the fact that you are alive ,then I'm pretty sure it would be a good thing to Love your family and value and appreciate your own life...If you do not like being alive and hate your own family then obviously that would not be good... so remember God ( if you believe in God) is good and the Devil (if you believe the Devil exists) is Evil - NOT GOOD...so I think when we read something promoting doing Evil things or things that are not good , that it should be quite easy to see if it's of God or not by simply knowing that God is Good (if you believe in God) and that the Devil (if you believe the Devil exists) is the one that is NOT good! lol, Evil in fact.... So just because something is written or said does not mean its of God.

I love Jesus and i trust in Jesus. But, if you take the Bible litterly in every other portion of it, this is troubling. Jesus definitely used the word hate. You cannot explain that away. We can infer what he meant by so many passages in the Bible, but this passage is used by so many to say Christians are hateful. Another, is that the Bible commands the husband to love his wife, but it does not command the wife to love the husband. The wife is to RESPECT the husband. So, does that mean a wife can love another man, or many men, and that does not have to mean in physical relationships, but only needs to respect the husband? Another, Peter drew his sword when they came to arrest Jesus and he used it. But, Jesus told him to SHEATH his sword. First, what was Peter doing with a weapon? Jesus had to know he had the sword on him long before they came to arrest him and he did not tell Peter to take it off. And, too, he did not tell Peter to throw his weapon away, but to SHEATH it. Another is when the peaceful Jesus drove the business people from the temple. Drove means physical effort against others. So, what I am getting at is that Jesus was much, much more complex than we give him credit for.

The Bible *isn't* calling you to hate evil in this passage, it is calling you to hate *people.* The Greek term μισεῖ occurs 7 times in scripture, and none of them are idiomatic or comedic. Luke 14:26 is a clear command to 'hate the father of himself (meaning *your* father') in the same way that 'evil hates the light' (John 3:20).

Here is the Correct answer! In the Bible, the term “hate” can denote a feeling of hostility motivated by malice, prompting someone to harm others. Or it can refer to an intense feeling of dislike for or strong aversion to someone or something. It can also mean to love to a lesser degree. Ex: Jacob “hated” Leah and loved Rachel. He loved Leah less than he loved Rachel.
Therefore, Jesus DID NOT mean that his followers were to feel hostility or loathing toward their families and toward themselves, as this would contradict the rest of the Scriptures. (Mark 12:29-31; Ephesians 5:28,29,33) So in this context, the term “hate” could be rendered “love to a lesser degree.”

Or love to a lesser degree. We can’t creature worship like many do with kids, I’ve seen single mothers put their kids first and not honor Gods arrangement of marriage, worldly thinking of having a man earn respect instead of looking at reputation or credentials, another example of creature worship is making Jesus their god when Jesus asked twice “why do you call me good, there is ONE that is good, the Father who ironically also taught us how to pray...to the Father and he also has a name...which many translations took out... the father who wrote the Bible told man not to add or take away. In the New World Translation the most widely translated Bible in the world it says in Deut 4:2 “You must not add to the word that I am commanding you, neither must you take away from it, so as to keep the commandments of Jehovah your God that I am commanding you.” But in other translations it has you guessing with Deut 4:2 NIV”Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you” Making the Lord Jesus god. So who is loving the son more and completely ignoring the whole point of creature worship as well as loving the Father Jehovah more.

This explanation doesn't make any sense.
If I got this right, Jesus meant that a father can be judgemental to the idea of following Jesus, right?
So, if a son wants to follow Jesus and his father says no deal, then Jesus says you must "Hate your father" in order to follow Jesus, right?
Hate is a strong word and a strong feeling. I don't like it very much, and by the way, isn't hate something that you're not supposed to feel as a Christian?
After hating and not obeying your father, you're supposed to "Honor your father" and "obey your father". This is a clear logical fallacy.
Jesus said that you must "hate your father" in order to be his disciple. He could have just said that you'd have to love Jesus more than your father. Then I would have understood this, but this hatred thing is very weird to me.

I didn't get it and I came looking for an answer. I went through every type of abuse, because of my parents and than more, because of my father, his friends and his new wife.
He holds on to objects, that were passed on to him by his grandmother who practiced witchcraft. He rejects The Gospel of Christ and thinks he can do it his way and every conversation I have with him only hurts me or bothers me. As soon as I try to share scripture to help him understand why or what is happening. He cuts the conversation short or makes noticable his disinterest. It's like if I don't go to his level or listen to the same o' same o'. I don't have a father and I'm tired if it.
Yes we are told to honor our parents, but it says afterwards. Parents do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of The Lord.
So we're supposed to do what, when or if a parent wants nothing to do with The Gospel of Yahshua and thinks he can do it his way. I don't even know how to explain myself.
I choose to cut off him and every family member who speaks carnal, who doesn't want to hear or believe in The Gospel of Yahshua The Christ and is buying in to this new age crap.
One of my sisters died like 3 days ago. She accepted and was touched by Yahshua. She was on fire, but still holding on to carnal beliefs. I tried warning her and pointing out scripture to help her understand and stop with her carnal ways or solution.
She ended up denying Christ to keep her marriage and children together. When I warned her and told her to repent or I couldn't be a part of her life, until she repented and returned to the truth.
She didn't say anything and that was like 2 months ago. Today I was told, that she died.

I have a question if anyone would be kind enough to answer. I've been looking around different religions and am trying to look for an answer to life. I have come to the Bible and stumbled upon a verse which seemed to me that it didn't coincide with the teachings of Christianity. Can someone please verify or correct my assumption. Jesus says in John 17:3 - "This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ." He is referring specifically to the Father here as can be seen from previous verses. So when he says "their coming to know YOU, the ONLY TRUE GOD...", it is very apparent that he is referring to the Father as the ONLY TRUE God. There is no indication of a trinitarian God here at all. If he had said "true God" and didn't include the word "only", then one can argue that it doesn't disprove the Father is part of a Trinitarian God. However to an average individual like myself or even a child, it clearly shows here the Father is a distinct entity from any other (Jesus and holy spirit) and is the only true God, disproving the whole Trinitarian God theme. I know there may be verses that indicate Jesus and Holy Spirit are both part of the Trinitarian God. But I want an explanation for this specific verse. Because if there was for example a book which said "xyz is tall" and in another part it said "xyz is short", you can bring the "xyz is tall" phrase as many times as you wish but it will not get rid of the fact that the book also claims that the same "xyz is short". So can someone please explain this specific verse to me in context?

Any dogmatic thinking that shuns biological family is dangerous, and destroys community. Leviticus 19:17 says to not hate your brother, and Luke 6:27 says to love your enemies, and do good to (like honor) those who hate you.
Love is affection toward another, while honor is respect or duty. This creates a Bipolar relationship, as on the surface one is dutiful, and on the inside holds contempt and malice toward their family and themselves.
Christianity is a cult of Judaism. Remember that during that time there were different groups of believers, like the Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes and Zealots. All of the schools of thought taught different things about Yahweh, which is why today Jews don't believe that Jesus was God.
I find it strange that he referred to the original ten commandments in Exodus 20, but those were destroyed, and in Exodus 34:1-28 Moses wrote down the second set, which were very different.
