Absolutely fantastic episode of basics series (even though it's Monday). Great commentatory and narration. Loved it! All imporatatnt moments and cocenpts stressed out to the maximum. A blind man would see it.

I still have a sneaking suspicion that the next AI will crush all the current 3-3 AI and then the meta will shift back.

I think that might happen too. It's possible that AIs like the 3-3 because there aren't many optimal branches, making it very helpful to cut down the search tree. A stronger AI might not need that simplification...

just like how in chess google's engine just stopped caring about castling because it wasn't that important to it.

I heard that when the AI plays with the group tax rule (you only count points where you can put stones, so eyes aren't points), influence and territory are balanced and AI doesn't play 3-3, because having an extra group means two points less. But with the rules focused on territory, yeah, territory is slightly more important

When you say that it was an 80 point mistake it made it sound like black was in danger of losing at that point. But even then they weren't. It's almost more like they decided to use your own philosophy of basic play against another pro!
