The movements taught with these weapons can also be used open hand. This is also done a lot with Kali . These are called Filipino.stick and knife drills. The concept is to create faster hand skills regardless of the weapon at hand. This style is based and choreographed in the movie The Bourne Identity

When the ignorant encounter a real man of power they will have their feelings hurt, there is more to what is being shown than many are able to see, just as an eagle can see a grain of rice miles away but you couldn't see that, yet you cannot say it's not there for you are limited in vision hence ignorant...all combat movement is an art because of its depth of wisdom and knowledge...never disrespect a master of any art, as he may be a presence of power you are unable to perceive, no one can defend against what they never saw coming.

I was thinking the same thing, but he would probably only get superficial cuts there and it would be difficult for her to really get a deep stab from that position, because he's wrapped over and under her elbow which is locking her arm straight in that position. She might be able to roll her wrist and try to do little cuts, but at the same time he's in a way superior position where he has her restrained and is able to plunge his weapons into vital targets more effectively. In most cases, both people will get cut in a knife fight, so you learn how to protect your vital points (armpit, heart, throat) while targeting the opponent's vital points. If you have to take a minor cut to land a winning blow, that may just be the tradeoff in order to neutralize the threat.
This type of move is also seen in wrestling, and FMA has a lot of aspects of boxing and wrestling applied to weapon fighting. In blade fighting, controlling the opponent's weapon-wielding arm is important. If you tie up their arm, they might still be able to roll their wrist around and cut you a bit, you might even get stabbed, but it's a better alternative to just allowing them to pull their arm back and continue going for deep, rapid stabs at your vitals.

it's supposed to be a vine. His forearm should be behind her elbow making a joint lock.when he does the unarmed version his empty hand goes on to her delt putting more pressure on the elbow joint. so locking the elbow harder or breaking the arm prevents the stab.

Is Pekiti Tirsia Kali effective and efficient to defend against unpredictable and dirty street fights?
Because on the street you have to be violent, dishonest, practical, real and brutal.
The most effective martial art for self defense is the one you know so well that when you are attacked you will react proficiently without thinking.
All martial arts have strengths and weaknesses. Some are strong in kicking, striking or grappling. But with their strengths come weaknesses in other areas.
Most can be used effectively for self defense. And none will be effective in self defense if you freeze up.
It’s why good martial artists practice forms and techniques over and over. It builds muscle memory. And they spar to test their abilities in a fight.
Because when you step in a ring or are attacked for real your flight hormones spike. Your brain freezes. And you forget preset forms and techniques.
The attack won’t look like what you expected. And you need to react quick.
So, when you step in a ring or are attacked you empty your mind of predetermined responses. You trust your abilities to react swiftly. You observe where your opponent has left himself vulnerable.
Then you attack without hesitation using all of your ability to end the confrontation quickly and effectively.
    And hopefully you will.
So find a martial art you enjoy. Train in it for self defense. But also for the physical conditioning and enjoyment of the art so you will practice and become proficient.
Then work to never need to use it for self defense.
*Here's what I've learned in years of street fight:*
    1) It's not the martial art, it's what's in your heart: Any martial art is good to know, but you need the heart of a lion if the odds are stacked against you.
    2) Headbutts, elbows, and knees are devastating if delivered properly.
    3) Keep your guard up
    4)Don't kick above the knee
    5) Lose the shirt unless you want it used against you.
    6) Unless your Chuck Norris, you probably cant defeat two people determined to kick your ass. Definitely not 3.
    7) Just because they're female, doesn't mean they fight like a lady.
    8) Don't fight someone that has a weapon unless absolutely necessary.
    9) If you pull a weapon, you'd better use it, or it will get used on you.
    10) Never underestimate your opponent(s).
    11) Violence of Action, be aggressive, land first, land often.
    12) Avoid the fight if possible
    13) Watch for weapons and other attackers.
    14) If youre not fighting dirty, you're not trying hard enough.
    15) Surviving is more important than winning.
_What is the most effective martial art for self defense?_
The one you know and can use effectively.

I don’t know why people keep saying this. Running only works if you can outrun your attacker. If your assailant has already decided that you’re taking a dirt nap, then all you’re going to do is die tired.

@@seneca1932 Exactly! Running only works if you have a way out (can't run out of a moving city train), can run faster than the attacker, and you don't have a slower person by you, like a girlfriend, elderly family member, small child, etc. I think they just like to use it as an excuse not to train anything at all. Makes them feel better sitting at home doing nothing to justify their laziness, while everyone else is getting their training in

They probably train Muay Thai and/or JKD as well. They're teaching at a JKD school. It's common in JKD and MMA schools to use multiple different salutes, or use the Muay Thai salute as a general one.

You need to be holding two knives for this to work, and getting a hold on someone that is holding a knife without an actual grip on them, is stupid, impractical.... If you're trying to break hands, not going to get far, break the elbows.... They can't do anything upper body. Just like a knee. It's insane to see all the "martial arts" out there that skinny women and wannabe tough guys join

Hope she wore deodorant otherwise the training knife will be smelly. And if she did wear it there is deodorant mess on the top of the knife. This is why you don't wear tank tops when training in martial arts class.
