I have the same problem with my colocasia pharoah's mask plant! Every time it puts out a new leaf, the oldest one dies. So far, it hasn't died, but I will try this blend. I live in Mexico where it doesn't ever really get too cold, so rather than risking it dying completely, I will take my chances repotting it now. I don't see these plants here very often, so it would be hard to replace. I appreciate your channel. You have a lot of great information about the plants I grow here. Thank you!

Actually, I was wrong. The plant I have is alocacia cuprea K. Koch. So, this mix should be good. It came from the nursery in orchid bark.

Agree... bit difficult to grow. But if you use the same potting soil mix, it should do well. Good luck 👍

Thank you, bro. It's not a good time to repot, but after watching this video I want to change my black velvet soil mix. Can I use the same soil mix for other alocasias such as Frydeck and Pink Dragon?

I was planning to buy 2 alocasia next spring. But am scared it will not survive. I was planning to pot it in chunky media with coarse sand, pumice, peat moss and vermicompost (25% each). Most of my exotic, expensive plants are thriving. Plus I give NPK and seaweed every month. There are two issues I suspect - 1) if the plant is a tissue culture, it wouldn't have corm which can be regrown. Once it dies, it dies. 2) it needs lots of humidity and so will it survive extended dry hot summer of north India. Is spring a better time or monsoon. After spring, dry hot summer is bad. After monsoon and autumn, there is very cold winter. What do you suggest.
By the way, I have found a very good aglonema seller with good experience and that too cheaper than other online seller. If you are interested, let me know. I bought 10 aglonemas from them for much cheaper and healthy plants.

Sorry for the late reply...somehow I missed your comment.
Your potting soil mix looks perfect too and since your plants are growing well, please continue the same. Regarding your issues -
      1. Agree but after reaching the maturity level, they should have.
      2. Agree, Humidity is important as it's their native growing environment. Monsoon is the best time and soon they would go to dormancy period (winter is approaching).
      >> After spring, dry hot summer is bad.
Bad but it's the growth time anyway. You can sprinkle water on plants like 2-3 times a week in case there is no rainfall for many days.
      >> After monsoon and autumn, there is very cold winter.
No problem, winter is dormancy period.
And yeah, I am VERY MUCH interested to know. Please send me the details of the seller to my email id - gardeningupbeat[at]gmail.com (Please replace [at] with @). Thank you so much for letting me know, really appreciated and looking forward!

I just purchased Black Velvet Alocasia a couple of weeks ago and it is doing so well it has a bunch of new baby leafs. Do you ever cut off a large leaf to make room for the new ones? I am afraid the new smaller leafs are going to die.

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

No please avoid doing this..this way, plant would get in trouble if you cut the larger leaves! It's great news that your plant is doing well and it has already produced many new leaves. You can apply fertilizers now as it's the growing time. Very soon your plant would look much fuller, all the best!

It was different at different time. For example, when I bought the first time, it was Rs. 550 for a single plant. 2nd time got around in Rs. 300 and finally Rs. 200. First time it was high as it came to nursery newly. Thank you and Sir is not required actually!

Thank you!!! I had two alocacias. I banned myself from getting more after my results, and am happy to know a successful potting mix in case another ever ends up with me.
I especially like ending with aglomenas; one of mine is flowering for the third time this year!!
