Hi! I recently bought an Alocasia! I want to save it. When I bought it, it was dying only one leaf seems to be doing really well! How should I go about trying to keep it alive ? What does it mean if it’s leave are yellow/shrinking & brown. Not sure how to explain. But I would definitely appreciate some help to revive this beautiful plant back to life! Thank you!
Hey Jocelyn, too low humidity, direct sunlight, too much watering all contribute to leaves that yellow or brown. I'd check these out first and if you're giving your Alocasia what it likes, then the problem could be to do with the soil or roots. Make sure the soil is loose and free draining so the roots don't suffocate. And check the roots are looking healthy, no mushy ones or mould around. But if you have one good leaf and healthy roots there's definitely hope for your Alocasia! :)
Hello, Alocasia plants are famous for growing very slowly so you're most likely not doing anything wrong! I would just keep following the care tips and have patience (although I know how hard that can be!) 😊💕
I just got one a few months ago and I’m thinking of moving her to the bathroom . She’s not dying just not thriving . The stems are a little limp the ends of the leaves are crispy . I’m just worried about the change in temperature in the bathroom . I take hot showers so it gets pretty warm in there and then it cools back off when I open the door . I’m also wondering about where in there to put it . I have a window but it’s actually in the shower so I’m worried it might get too wet there .
Hi Flor, I would give the bathroom a try, I have similar houseplants in the bathroom and they love the humidity from the shower even though it also eventually drops like in your situation. I wouldn't put it in the shower, I think the soil would become too wet and the BVs are prone to root rot so you might run the risk. They can tolerate moderately lower light levels so maybe try placing it near to the window in your shower but not in the shower. Good luck! 👍 🙂
I was very disappointed Balconia for you did not give us the soil preparation and what goes in there. This was the same plant for the first time I received and wanted to know how I should report the guy as the leaves were all brown! I'll look up for another video.

Hey, you're welcome! I must say I find misting doesn't really do much in the long run. It's OK do do when you're cleaning the leaves but in my experience it doesnt do that much to increase humidity around the plant and it can lead to other problems like fungus or mould. Hope that helps 🙏

My black velvet is growing really well and quite tall now (about 30cm) however because of the height she tends to fall over to one side rather than stand up straight. is there anything i can do to combat this or do i just need to put bamboo sticks in? or more soil? ☺️ this video is super helpful thank you!!
Hi Natalie, sounds like you have a tall and beautiful plant! I wouldn't add more soil, staking is the best option and keep rotating 😀 the leaves will always make the plant top heavy but you can try placing your plant nearer to the light source so it doesn't lean and won't need to stretch its stem. Hi, I would check the roots first for root rot and the plant for pests or diseases. If they're fine, have a look at the soil make sure its free draining and no beasties in there. Check on the humidity as well where your plant is, their leaves love those high humidity percentages!
