The band was started in 1968 (1969?), at the first with Russell on the bass guitar, but they called themselves 'Halfnelson', which also was the first name on the first album 1971. Didn't sell much... They changed the name of the group to 'Sparks', and the album was re-released as 'Sparks' in 1972, the album didn't sell more. The same year they also released 'A Woofer In A Tweeter's Clothing', which niether didn't sell much but a couple of songs had some attention in the UK. 1973 Ron and Russell moved to England, after been promised a career start, only them, not the Mankey brothers, James and Earle, nor the drummer Harley Feinstein. The Mael brothers wrote new material and put together a new 'crew' to play with them. They had their breakthrough with the 'Kimono My House' album, including the hit 'This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us', 1974. Some might say "the real Sparks" was the "English" version from the Island years, but that's not true. It was always about Ron and Russell, from the moment they joined forces in the same band, instead of separately bands. Ron and Russell, and their band. Whoever denies that isn't seeing things clearly. When they moved back to America 1976 they left their English band and put together a new, they thought fitted the change of style they wrote the new music in. A story ever repeated. American audience perhaps think the band of Bob Haag, Leslie Bohem and David Kendrick is "the real" Sparks, from the albums released in the eighties.
Just pure amazing. Sparks are just unique, and that has proved them well over the years. I would love to see them perform live.
A great performance, and a great position 😄
I’m sure the Mael’s were sent to us from heaven or something. ❤️
They sound so amazing! Acoustic and all. These guys are awesome.
FANTASTIC BAND EVER SINCE THE START IN 74. THX SPARKS

Is what Russell has in his ear. a hearing aid?
It's an in-ear monitor.
eh?
@@NoxiousRob It provides a mix of the overall sound in his ear to help with the performance.
So has Ron, and I assume the guitarist, whose name slipped my mind.
Like in "Probably Nothing"... 🙄
