Another great video. I’m in training flying a Cherokee. My next flight is my first solo. My landings had been a little rough but watching your videos and hearing you vocalize what you are looking and focusing on has really helped me improve. Never stop talking to yourself it helps people like me out.
The top Garmin: for Ground, Tower, approach frequencies and primary navigation map The Bottom Garmin: for Wx and NAV mode (lateral, distance, and est. time) for the above just for better situational awareness
Our Piper Lance has a 530W and a 430 for second radio. We use them both the same, for redundancy, but we also don't hardly take any short round robin trips. The FlightStream 210 makes entering flight plans a world easier. There are alot of great features in both of the GNS Units that most people do not take advantage of. In the 530 we have set up a continuous timer that flashes a switch tanks message every 30 minutes that the unit is on. Really helps a ton with fuel management and really keeps us from getting a heavy wing. Also we say We because it's us and our girl, the airplane! ;)
First I want to thank you for what you do on your channel! Even after reading your/the disclaimer I've still learned so much! I'm right at about 25 hours and gaining more and more confidence with my landings, by looking down the runway; I've still got to stick that flare and roundout, but it's coming! All that said, what tablet do you use for you Garmin Pilot or Foreflight? Also my Flying Eyes came in this week!
As I've returned to flying, and especially as I've recently purchased my own aircraft, I know what you're talking about when you describe switching back and forth between your airspeed indicator and your aiming point. I imagine it's more difficult being in the right seat since you have to move your head more. It makes me wish a practical, and not terribly expensive, heads-up display was available for small aircraft like ours. And, yes, when flying, I talk to myself all. the. time.
I always fly with two 430’s(flightschool), mostly use the first one for the frequencies like Tower/Ground/approach. 2nd to set the needed ATIS in standby and I always lissen out on the emergency frequency when flying. At bigger airports, when ATIS is been noted. It’s handy to set the Groundfrequency ready before final approach. For a fast switch.
Talked to my self when I solo'd with 3 touch and go's back in early November. I still talk to myself. Good reinforcement on what you should be seeing and doing, when you verbalize it. So, I'd say quite a few pilots talk themselves down.
I have not flown for a month and due to rona im not going to fly for the next month too. And my first flight after this long time is going to be my firs ifr training flight with a new airplane (TB21). Wish me and the airplanes struts good luck tho
I haven’t flown two 430’s in a while, but they were set up to auto cross fill the flight plan to the second one. I basically used the second screen to show another, i.e. map in one and either traffic on the second or the nav page with TRK and CDI on the second one.
Welcome back to Puerto Rico..I mean Kissimmee!! Next time pick me up and we can go to lunch somewhere, I haven't flown since January trying to pay down our last debt which we just did!!! Hope you start applying for airlines again soon, flew back from Missouri on Sunday and Charlotte was completely slammed so I hope you get a job you want!
Funny you would put this up because I just did the same thing about an hour ago. I was busy with work hadn’t flown in roughly a week in a half and had one of my best landings in my PA-28 today with pretty windy conditions! Lil Dix that’s awesome LMAO!!!!!!! Blue Skies & Tail Winds my friend!
What's your beef with the Orlando Eye? Best selection of flat roofs in the area and a wide range of AC compressor units to be seen. Another great video though. Bangin!
Just a couple days ago I did my first solo xc, all checklists and what I was doing I still talked aloud as if my cfi was next to me, during the cruise portion the silence on the radio and no one there with you talking was a bit eerie, and my destination airport no one else was around so it was just more silence. Had a ton of fun though.
this comment may go unnoticed but I definitely heard the "Young Buck- Something About You" intro during the transition from the ad to the start of the video at 3:41 haha !!!
Hey, Lew. Being a Aviation professional. Question: I plan on traveling from Chicago, IL to Kansas City, Mo, do I have to get tested for "Covid-19"? I don't have Covid and never did. I will be Flying. I did all the normal checks and didn't see anything like that.
i woke up this morning, and saw the new video post, and was yelling and woohooing.. is that bad? Capt Lil' Dix needs FLYING EYES.. maybe the second iteration of him? I say We as well, when flying solo. I think it is because i think of the plane as another entity. And together, we make magic. WIthout me, the plane cannot fly, and without the plane, i cannot fly. It is a well oiled union.. OMG, i talk to myself all the time.
Dude, everyone talks to themselves while flying xD I say pretty much all of my thoughts out loud while flying. Not sure why. Probably something to do with talking a lot during early training so my CFI knew what on earth was going on in my head, but I still do it all the time now. Doesn't matter if I'm solo or not!
Too bad you can't land at Disney with all the times you fly over it. And to answer your question, yes-as a matter of fact I do talk to myself when flying alone.

Currently training in a warrior pa 28 161. This video really helped me get my landings on track! Great video as always!
No macho attitude, just some healthy lil' dix energy :D
Haha!

Watched to the end. Awesome bro. I ending track was really good. That was hot. You are right about "Proficiency". A good pilot is always learning.

Your videos helped me during my flight training at FSA Vero Beach two years ago so much. I just wanna say thank you!

Two Garmin 430.....It’s like Christmas 😀. No more telling ATC you are leaving frequency 😀.
Haha, what a rightly smug and satisfied face after that touchdown!
Haha too smug some might say
Superb video very entertaining and very helpful. Thanks for posting. I have my first solo country next week here in the UK.
COVID tests really suck! I love the cartoon Little Dix!

Good landings Lewdix! One after another greasers!!!
Thank you!
I just started my PPL training a week ago and found out about your channel. Your vids helps a lot!!
So pumped to watch this later was so excited when I seen it pop up on instagram.!!!!

Dual 430 here, cross fill is king.... but just for controversy, North up is also king. That should get everyone riled up :)
This was entertaining!

Annnnd lil Dix hit with a cease and desist by WD. ha! Missing the ole piper!
Love your cartoon. He needs to have the option to be fitted with someone of those hot sun glasses though!
😂
Yeah lil dix needs little flying eyes

Another great video though. Bangin!
Nice video, what was your airspeed at final and about to touch down, please?
I do love your channel thank you so much for your videos Lewis... Your the Man!
Thanks Jason!
Orlando Eye: Let's sponsor Little Dix Aviation
Lew Dix: You can see the whole of Orlando from Orlando Eye.

Love your new Lil Dix....yeah...that doesn't even sound right LOL!! Good vid mate..cheers!
Thanks mate! Haha
lil’ Dix! Holla! 😎

I always talk to myself when I fly solo!
17:25 Are you even a pilot if you don’t talk to yourself 😂? Keep it coming LewDix!
Don't worry, you're not crazy, I talk to myself flying solo as well
Phew!! Haha
I have full on conversations with myself some times
Bring back the CRAB!!!
Perfection 👌🏻
01:23
Feels like something out of a medieval game
Nice glasses! What are they!?
great video as always! i would like to ask what filters do you use for the go pro for over exposed sunlight?
thanks
Outstanding landings! Why doesn't your cartoon have flying eyes???
I get so much from watching your landings
Excellent!
AYO?? Lil dix🤔🤔😏😏😏😏
How do you mount the GoPro to the bottom of the wing to get the main gear in view? I would love to try this on my plane
I also talk to myself when flying solo. Since you have 2 GPS, what are you using the iPad for?
Good to have a backup for your backup.
9:32 I guess it's you, the plane and us viewers so you're not alone ;)
btw did you just say "why do we always say we?" lmao
I talk to myself too - LOL
Hey got a question, what would you say you use your foreflight for the most while you fly? And how useful is it?
👏 👏 👏
Niceeeeeeeeee
Are we going to see 042 more in IFR videos now that it has two radios?
Honest opinion Lew, would you recommend the Orlando Eye?😂
100%... so you can see how sh*t it is
@@LewDixAviation I'll just take your word for it👍😂
I have the best conversations with myself when i'm flying ahah
Hahaha
Yeah I find if I want an intelligent conversation I talk to myself
Proficiency (Check) and yes I talk to myself all of the time!
Lovely landings... but what's with the big head! 😉😂

Don’t quote me but I don’t believe you need a test to fly domestic.
@@LewDixAviation Thanks bro. Yeah. I was just double checking just to make sure. My man.
"We" really enjoy you videos. And by "We" I mean "I". LOL
😂
Lil Dix was a phenomenal idea
I’m glad you think so. I’m proud of him
Haha I talk to myself all the time while flying!!! Would be better if I could talk to my cartoon though
Talking to a cartoon is another level of loneliness lol
Do you on your own flight school? If not would you like to?
"We" The plane and I.. 😂
I like that!
Lil dix is your son 🤣🛩
i woke up this morning, and saw the new video post, and was yelling and woohooing.. is that bad?
Capt Lil' Dix needs FLYING EYES.. maybe the second iteration of him?

Never a bad thing to wake up like that haha
Dude, everyone talks to themselves while flying xD

👍🏻
I talk to myself all the time. I can be an asshole sometimes though so I usually don’t listen too well 😆
Scratch Kissimmee Chamber of Commerce off your list as a potential sponsor.
😂 Scratched them off ages ago
You REALLY hate the Orlando Eye 😂
I thought you actually had an engine failure when you said "oh shit engine failure" on the short approach lol
Please let me make stickers of Captain Lil Dix XD
Karl Pilkington whoop whoop😂
Wait Lewis...why was that flight school you used to instruct at so horrific? Are you allowed to elaborate
I'm sorry maybe it was your accent but did you say Captain Little Dix? 😆 🤣 😂
I did lol
Did he say Cap’n Lil Dix?!
I´m talking to myself all the time in flight. ;-)
Why the choice to sit on the right side?
As a CFI, that's where I sit the most
Do you reckon you've lived there long enough now that if you do some absolutely mad shit you'll get a "Florida man..." headline?
Who DOESN'T talk to themselves when flying solo?
Too bad you can't land at Disney with all the times you fly over it. And to answer your question, yes-as a matter of fact I do talk to myself when flying alone.
So if he's lil' dix, what does that make you, what you tryna tell us?
My lawyers told me not to respond....
Why the hell am I subscribed to this channel :) how do I unsubscribe. J/K ...great video.
😂
You sound British, but you're in the USA.
Nothing gets past you eh
@@MCP_623 Just wondering about the back story.
By the way Low wings are for sissies that have Acrophobia! 😆
Do you know any pilot that does not talk out loud to himself while flying alone? 😅. Great landings. Just find your crosswind control top classe.
I talk constantly! I became a better pilot when I vocalized everything I was doing
Unsubscribe at 17:10. Lol.
