SimpleNursing memberships have 1,200+ animated videos, 900+ colorful study guides, 3,000+ practice questions, and more! See why SimpleNursing is trusted by over 1,000,000 nursing students.
Today’s video is all about isotonic, hypotonic, & hypertonic IV fluids for Nursing Students and NCLEX Review.
As a nurse, you’ll administer several types of fluids to patients to help rebalance their own bodies. These fluids can be isotonic (the same concentration as the fluid in the blood), hypotonic (lower concentration than blood), or hypertonic (higher concentration than blood).
Check out our video to help memorize which of these kinds of fluids you need to administer on a patient-to-patient basis.

@4:23...Are ketones from fat or protein?
What are ketones and why do I need to know about them? Ketones and ketoacids are alternative fuels for the body that are made when glucose is in short supply. They are made in the liver from the breakdown of fats. Ketones are formed when there is not enough sugar or glucose to supply the body's fuel needs.

Hi, from my understanding, the hypotonic fluids will draw water into the cell. If this happens in excess there is a depletion of extracellular fluid such as in a vessel. This will lead to hypovolemia. Hope this helps
