    To think the only reason the music sounds bad on the NES bootleg is because of a bad bootleg sound driver (from some game called athena) that didnt have proper frequency change implementations or smth. These same devs made impressive versions of Alladin that beat the crap out of the original NES port, a version of UMK3 that looks better than the Master System version, and Street Fighter Alpha!!!
    These people are genius wizards, if it wasnt for the sound issues their games would be perfect! Its sad they never worked on modern consoles ( at the time ) like snes,megadrive,psx,n64,etc. Imagine what they could have done

    • @ShwappaJ
      @ShwappaJ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, the reason why the sound is a bit weird on the NES port is because the NES is an 8-bit system trying to run an SNES game, which is 16-bit, not 8. Also, there are MANY people who make hacked, bootlegged, and ported version of modern games as well. It's just much harder to do with modern systems because there's more stuff to work through. Hell, even XBOX 360 and XBOX ONE games can be modded, hacked, and whatnot!

    • @DoomKid
      @DoomKid 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nah the NES can sound way better than this. Official SMB3 on NES sounds great, and games like Mega Man, Battletoads, etc all sound awesome on NES. Hummer team was great with graphics, decent with gameplay, and sub par with music.

    • @Sh-hg8kf
      @Sh-hg8kf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ShwappaJ That....is not how it works. The sound is far and away from what could have been ported to a sound chip like the NES'S easily because Hummer Team used a weird sound driver
      This is not straight up trying to run a 16 bit game. Hummer team has essentially made a game that tries to act like SMW as much as possible.

    • @Sh-hg8kf
      @Sh-hg8kf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DoomKid I never said it was the fault of the NES itself. There a ton of games that do sound better than this, like any Follin game, Solstice's title theme and Silver surfer being one of my favorites, far better than the relatively simple tunes (in terms of the complexity of the effects used, not the melody itself) of Mega Man imo
      The athena driver afaik had a shitty implementation of vibrato, which REALLY shows here. That and Hummer Cheng was primarily a programmer, not a composer, so the intricacies of getting it to sound good would have been hard

    • @ExtremeWreck
      @ExtremeWreck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Sh-hg8kf Yeah that's another thing; they likely weren't able to get anyone that knew how to compose music for the NES, so the programmers had to step in & do it themselves, which makes me really applaud their efforts.

    It's not bad for what it is and they probably did the best they could with the conversion, but kinda glad Nintendo didn't bother with the NES version, it's not great, because you can really see and hear the limitations of the hardware.
    The main sticking point for me is the sprite flicker with more demanding NES games, especially the final portion of the screen as it's scrolling, the draw clipping is just awful.
    The system had clearly run its course and Nintendo definitely needed to release a new machine, especially to deliver this game how it needed to be delivered.

      I'm not. The NES was more powerful than most other 8-bits, it's just that a lot of its games were lazily ported. The only system that was close, and it was actually better most of the time, was the SMS. It's just that the "bootleg" here was more carefully done than what Nintendo would have made if the game were backported.

    • @zitherq5761
      @zitherq5761 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Ruudos I know right? I wouldn't guess it was outright "impossible". But maybe cumbersome and trouble than needed.
      Like Luigi's Sprite is color swapped Mario in nes era Mario. Could they have probably made him a different sprite? Probably. Is it really worth it? Probably not. Not even really necessarily enough to overwrite an enemy's graphics for that extra use. (Altho i wonder if the versus mode that nobody uses much on smb3 could have maybe given up some graphics space for a unique Luigi lol)

  • @Longlostpuss
    @Longlostpuss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Fun Fact:- Nintendo originally planned to release the game on the NES, but they thought they didn't have the power on tap to include Yoshi, so they mothballed it for the SNES instead.
    Super Mario Bros 3 was also going to be cancelled and put on the SNES, because they didn't like the limited colours and it wasn't producing the intended vision, but they changed their mind and decided to release it anyway. That's why you got the re-release of Super Mario Bros 3 in Super Mario All Stars a few years later, the other games in the collection was really a sidepiece and it was mainly released for Mario 3 to show everyone how they originally wanted it to look and sound in the first place.

    From what I've heard, the bootleg NES version was HARD to make. It took over a year to make & as a result of the deal, they released an incomplete version called "Volume 1", then put a more complete version on a 45 In 1 multicart. They apparently even had to make an entirely new engine from scratch just to make this port happen!
