  • In todays episode I take my friend Noah out for a spearfishing trip in a remote part of the island for a three prong mission. We get some kole, tako, and kumu despite me really struggling with the three prong pole spear. Like this video and let me know any three prong tips you guys have in the comments below!!!

I’ve started diving with my 3 prong uncocked, especially for longer dives. When the fish start coming in I slowly (as relaxed as possible) pull the band. It helps keep me relaxed for longer dives and keeps the spear from slipping. I’m no expert on 3 pronging but it may be with a try.

The reason you don’t see kumu to often is because they take sooooo sooooo long to grow. Way longer than any of the other goat fish. They also typically stay in the shallower ranges making them also more of a target for divers. I have seen the kumu population on Maui deteriorate which is the reason I personally don’t shoot them. Great fish and supper cool to look at tho, always enjoy the opportunity to observe them 🤙🏽

Strap some fiction tape about a foot away from the metal where the 3 prongs are attached too. U will never slip again I promise you. Put as much tape as u need so that I will be comfortable to hold. To measure use the width of ur hand as a guide to how much u need to tape the shaft of the sling. Tape the part of the shaft that's comfortable for u to hold with the band's on ur hand. Hope it helps you.

How you do the little arm push out right before shooting spooks them. It was something I struggled with too, because you get this subconscious thought that you pushing it out will make it travel further. You need to punch out and get the strong wrist and elbow before shooting just like you do with the gun.

That three prong is so slow. You need a custom Lance Ohara. Speed is key. A decent grip wrap wouldn't hurt either.

I know a better spear would probably help me, but I have been using the same heavy Walmart 3 prong since I began spearfishing. The one he's using is pretty quick already, just gotta slow down his thought process like he said and treat every one like it's a prized fish.

Awesome video! Enjoy watching back to the basics! Lol how long you had that rubbah? Time for change? If not maybe go one up on the gauge? I just went use my evolve today with a smaller gauge rubber was crap, usually it’s too strong! Haha idk if that helps but hopefully can find that sweet spot! Nice Kumu, can’t wait for the survival vid!

Speaking of Cephalopod brains, a squid's brain is in the shape of a doughnut around the squid's esophagus, so if the squid takes a big enough bite, it can actually get brain damage.

I reccomend that you shouldn’t always have your three prong loaded and only loaded when the fish comes by you to prevent slipping and so your more relaxed in the water.
