First off hoping everyone stays safe as I watch live cameras around florida as hurricane makes landfall. Thousands of people have prepared as best that can for the 2nd hurricane to hit Florida late in the season. Power is out, airlines and cruise ports closed.

I’m on the Sun Princess currently (with Don onboard) and it has been nothing but calm. Princess has been amazing. The captain and crew kept us safe and comfortable.

I hope it makes more sense to you with regards to why they closed the ports. For one, The cruise passengers would have difficulty finding a hotel or air travel. The cruise passengers may not have experience with hurricanes. There were lots of tornadoes. People working the ports have lives as well.
I am Canadian living in Florida and I am appalled by the comments you made yesterday.
Let the experts do their job and be grateful they took precautionary measures for everybody's safety
I have been an avid lustener for years. I have always agreed with you and trusted your advice. I have recommended your site often. You have been level headed and kind in all instances until your last video. You made a mistake to whine about not being allowed to go into port. People listen to your words. You showed no understanding of what port crew needed to be at their homes taking care of them and their families. I thought you would acknowledge your era and maybe even apologize for your ignorance.
Don, I'm glad your comments today are more balanced about Hurricane respinses. Your comments yesterday criticizing the port authorities for not allowing the ship to dock were not at all appropriate or based on a lack of experience. As a 45-year resident of "Hurricane Country," these storms are unpredictable and more far-reaching than the predictions. Yesterday, Milton spawned tornados hundreds of miles southeast of the eye that killed 4 people. You can not criticize the port management for being cautious. And really, what is so bad about being stuck on a premium cruise ship for a few extra days for free?
Don. Dude. Apologize. Own it. And then reflect on why you're not recognizing your privileged existence that most people in the world only dream about.

I am glad you finally understood what we have experienced here in Florida. The hurricane covered the whole state. Some areas got up to 15 inches of water, lots of tornadoes, wind blowing at night time, debris and lots of devastation for many areas. It was very difficult to sleep for us. Over 5 million with no electricity. It landed as category 3 and passed through as category 1. It was very scary for us.
Don, I love your videos BUT man you made a huge blunder on your last video. Ports had to close for the safety of everyone. We had an official tornado touch down not far from Port Everglades with the feeder bands.
Praying for all those affected by the recent storms. Just returned from the Smoky Mountain area where there is widespread total devastation. When delivering needed supplies, I just broke down in tears. These communities are going to need help for YEARS. Many are gone forever. Let’s not forget them in the days to come🙏🏻 Safe travels Don.

“Sometimes I make these videos 2 days ahead of time.” Well, that’s not what you did when you wanted to question the ports for not accepting you. You were quick to upload your opinion and video of medical evacuations.
Still no apology from you for 2nd guessing of officials or admitting you don’t know what is going on in real time. Own up to your mistake.

We were right in the middle of the hurricane eye yesterday here in Sarasota. A very surreal experience. Very scary listening to the roof tiles sliding off the roof. 102mph winds. A beautiful day here today after such stress waiting for the hurricane to arrive. It made landfall five miles from us. How lucky we are to enjoy today.
How did this experience with Milton change anything about your preparedness? Decision to stay vs leave? Glad you are safe.

We were very prepared. Far more than usual. We are so fortunate to have kept power, water and sunshine. As our home was built to the highest building hurricane codes we did not even contemplate leaving. The small area of damaged roof shingles can be replaced. It was eight hours of wind, rain and stress!
I heard Sun Princess is wandering the Atlantic. Tornado last count on Thursday morning was 139. Hope you’re safe!
Was there a point for this video? You as much as admitted that you know nothing about these kind of storms so why are you babbling nonsense about it? in the case of the evacuations, he pointed out genuine safety choices made by the government... did those decisions expose those who were taken off to a very real safety risk... Yes!
now I probably know more about harbor safety, so I know the reasons why it is impossible to bring the ship in without creating a lot of disturbance to the preparation effort... he genuinely I believe did not.
given his level of understanding, I do not think any of the comments he made were unwarranted. it's sort of like those criticizing the operators of Fukushima for not pouring seawater in to cool the reactor (there was a genuine danger of the elements you were introducing accelerating the reaction and making things worse, so they did not pump any coolant in choosing to let it overheat & explode but in a potentially far less energetic manner)...
whilst to anyone who knows anything about operating a reactor, the suggestion of cooling it with seawater would be ludicrously high risk, I would never blame anyone of the many who at the time criticized them refusing that option (it was a strategy other professionals had considered and proposed as an option)

It’s obvious that he’s doubled down and has not apologized 😮😢😢(yet). Babbling about the damage of the hurricane is redundant as 99% of the people pretty much know what’s happened. My guess is he is too embarrassed at this point and just wants to sweep this whole thing under the cruise ship waves 😂😂

Time to take a break rather than having another go at a hurricane that tore the roof of Tropicana Field to shreds, forced an evacuation of millions, has led to multiple confirmed fatalities that can only rise and was only 20 miles south of being the worst case scenario of hitting the Tampa Bay and its cities directly.
I generally like your videos however yesterdays videos was very upsetting, you lack of regard for the people of Florida was not kind. Being critical of evac etc. Shame on you😢

About 126 tornados touched down. The east coast including Jacksonville have had the BIG winds which have pushed the ocean into the beaches. We have a great Gov. leader
Where is somebody on TH-cam called Max velocity. You might want to check his channel. He did report 126 tornado warnings that’s the most ever in America. But I believe only 15+ actually touchdown and one was devastating and about 2 miles wide and unprecedented. Sadly for today max velocity is down because he is in kind of the Tampa central area and lost his Internet connection not power.
I disliked today and yesterday’s video. I have never done that on his videos. I honestly expected today to be an apology. Very disappointed that he apparently does not read comments.

It was scary- no internet, so sitting outside a closed Starbucks, outside Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch! We’re so fortunate- lots of ripped awnings, screens, palms down - awful near the gulf. It landed on our Sarasota Island- Siesta Key-we at Lakewood Ranch, were in the eye!! This didn’t hit Gulf coast this strong for 100 years!! Lost internet & many lost power & more! 😢

I was in Orlando in 2004 when hurricane Charlie hit. We were OK but there was a lot of damage the next morning. Just so impressed with the emergency services who worked to make sure people were safe and the mess was cleared. Stay safe Florida.

What??? It was worse than predicted????A few days ago they warned us it was going to be a Category 5 and devastating. They've been sounding the alarm for over a week now.
It did turn out slightly better than originally thought, but still many have lost their lives and homes. I now hear you saying that life is more important than property, and rightly so. But your former post was a rant about the port not letting your ship dock while they were prepping for what was expected to be the worst storm in 143 years.
Couldn't you just apologize for your tone deaf former post that made your comments blow up? Using the excuse that you're a Canadian and not used to these storms doesn't wash. You're a frequent cruiser with above average knowledge of ship operations. Even without that, a person who is not used to these things should definitely be the first one to defer to the expert authorities who do know what they're doing.

If you want to keep your reputation, you really should apologize for your insensitive video yesterday. Repuations are hard to keep us, and what you did yesterday does not help. That is probably why Tony has more subscribers than you have.

Happy Birthday Don...Really Incredible this one..caught a channel giving the facts. We had one Father's day tornado once where they ended up with 125 last i heard 6 hrs ago and the hurricane. Sr. citizens home, whole manufactured home parks, age 55 and up..Gone...prayers...it is worst than dire predictions. Sorry for bad news, you are loved and this ship has had so many goofs for you but you just are not informed on this, xo.

Firstly, I m glad that the storm wasn't as bad as it was first thought it was going to be and there was a much lower loss of life and serious damage to property that was expected.
Hopefully the ship will be able to dock soon and those people that were needing medical help are able to receive it.
On a lighter note, the BBC weather app has been playing up, apparently in Scotland and other parts the wind is over 16000mph. That would be worrying!

Right in the middle of tornado alerts in Ft Lauderdale. The port was closed. You have a lot of nerve posting hurricane advice when you wanted to breach the authorities port closing at Port Everglades. Your had over 1,764 comments from your own subscribers on this channel roasting you alive. Did you read them?

The wording he chose was.....remember I do these videos days ahead.( or something to that effect). I find it ironic when he tells people to do what safety measures are in place to keep yourself safe and didn't see that keeping the ships at sea away from the port was the same. I'm sure it wasn't easy for the company or ports to arrange the evacuations. Not to mention if the ships were to pull into port to just embark the sick, I am 100% sure that the remaining passengers would storm the exit to get off, and to what , tornadoes, power outages and no gas. Panic and kaos would follow.

Don, I, too, am not in a direct hurricane path and have little to worry about them. However, bottled drinking water, non-perishable food, external USB battery packs, batteries, flashlights... a lot of that stuff is what everybody should have in the event of an emergency. In normal times, if we all just grabbed an extra pack of water and batteries on our next grocery trip, it would be no big deal for the supply chain. However, when hurricanes and natural disasters are coming, everybody floods the grocery stores and things get bought up.

I believe Don was talking about how much better it would be for the sick people who had to be evacuated by helicopter to get to port so the other sick people not sick enough for airlift but still sick could get attention. And this was days before Hurricane got close to shore

But would it have been? All the port workers were already home either sheltering or evacuating with their families. Many of the hospitals were either evacuating or closed to non-life threatening emergencies. As someone w/many health issues, unless I needed a serious ER visit, I would MUCH rather have been safely in a floating hotel room, with a bed and room service, not on a hallway ER stretcher w/a limited staff. Not to mention MD's nurses and a med unit onboard.

The peak winds in a hurricane are in the eye wall. Thats less than 10 miles wide. Florida is about 500 miles from north to south. The rain footprint is 200 miles wide.
Don't assume the entire state is affected in the same way. Before landfall the cone of possible effect is much larger than the later actual dsmage or flood. You should plan for the worst but assuming that Maimi, Orlando, and St Augustine are all the same weather is not good.

You need to thank the crew on your ship for keeping you safe no matter what complaining and second guessing is going on. I know you probably have some little tricks you could share maybe about prepping for ice storms, but your expertise is not hurricanes or emergency evacuations so please listen to the pros you might learn something if your open enough.
You also need to thank the dock workers and ship pilots to make sure it is safe for you to come in. Last but not least apologize to your captain and USCG, United States Coast Guard, for the safe evacuations of the ill patients. People look to you for information so please keep giving good information not prejudiced or incorrect information because it does not fit your vlog. My dad said if you don’t have something constructive to say please move on to something else.

Everything is free now on board. The cruiseline is going out of their way to take care of people and calm their concerns. Don is not suffering in any way. I have been aboard a ship at sea during Harvey. There were 2 kinds of cruisers on board. The first were almost historical and some overly emotional and second were calm and rational and made the most of their extral days. I was blown away by the cruiselines overwhelmingly generous response. No one suffered.
Give me a break! People lost so much - even their lives - and you think Don is a trooper. This is what the world is coming to - no care for real people. So sad.
