Imo it’s a different kind of pain for vespers. It doesent waste your time with long annoying mechanics and besides the corrupted puppeteer the dungeon isn’t hard. It’s kind of a fun but challenging thing. Meanwhile ghosts is just painfully annoying. The 1st encounter is just boring. The second encounter is the best but still annoying because of how tough the boss is health wise. The final encounter is just ballshit. Very annoying dps and long mechanics. As soon as I get my navigator I’m never doing the dungeon again lol. Well unless it’s for pinnacle.

I loved the discussion near the end of the stream. I hate arguing but love discussions and it can be so hard sometimes to have a true "discussion" with people. Honestly they should add fireteam scaling for the boss Hp, with the actual health on GoD, WR and Vesper been for 2-3 ppl fireteams, and reduce it for the solo expirience. Everything else, can be tuned or left as is. But the bloated HP bars are just a drag for solo

Another banger from the blendered toad. I agree that finicky or otherwise what may sometimes feel like nearly unavoidable instagib mechanics (see: 15m exploder shank instant wipe range, or 10m rad bubble aura) are one of the major pain points of solo dungeons for me. If I actively screw up, like shooting the wrong panel or not watching my viral timer properly, that's on ME, but the way Rad builds up so fast, is so quirky, and falls of so painfully slowly... that isn't always on me, and sometimes you have no choice but to go through one even if it might screw you over. The enormous health bars certainly don't help since I don't necessarily want to spend ten hours soloing one dungeon.

I feel like the last encounter runs into the same problem that Ghosts and Warlords has that I’ve called “five minutes to damage phase for five seconds of damage” and what I mean by that is: it takes so long just to get to damage, for small damage phases. I really dislike this approach as it leads to one wipe losing you legitimately up to an hour of progress.
I tried to do Vespers day one with a team, and even though we got clapped by the first encounter, it didn’t feel so bad because each attempt only took about five minutes.
The shorter time really lets you learn from your mistakes I think, instead of these stamina slogs where the main difficulty is trying to keep your brain from melting out of your ears.
As someone who soloed ghosts, that was basically all the difficulty of the bosses, as I would spend so long to get to damage that I would mess up silly things like forgetting to dunk, or forgetting the shape, and there’s nothing you can really learn from that. So it just feels awful to play.
Anyway sorry for the long rant, great video Toad!

I grinded out SF the week this dungeon came out as it’s always one of my fav challenges. This one was by far the hardest. Rarely died 1/2, to radiation or ads or missing mechanics on 3rd. However, I’m partially color blind, and the orange floor with orange lightning caused me to take three damn days for the clear. It was incredibly frustrating.
I hope Bungo takes some feedback from this dungeon. The ambition in Warlords and Vespers is there and they’ve become my favorite two dungeons to do as a group. I appreciate the more in depth boss fights in recent endgame content. But some of the ambition is leading to finicky, run ending mechanics that can be frustrating to die too.
I was the one in your chat who recommended anarchy and indebted. Worked for me because it was very mobile and I didn’t have to rely on dodging lightning since I was inherently moving. Watching the vid made me realize the strat definitely isn’t for everyone.
Keep up the videos brother! And good luck if you ever decide to run it back(:

I personally really enjoyed it! My niche in this game compared to my friends is dungeons. I’ve done every one solo flawless and I love to judge and pick apart new dungeons that release. I finished this one solo flawless a few days ago on warlock and did really enjoy it, but also agree with what you think. You need to really know the encounters to succeed, and you need to know yourself and your build to not fail. Modern dungeons are marathons and you need to also be able to keep on top of things for long periods of time. It’s never a bad thing to give up on hard content when you know you just can’t do it. I’ll say though that I hope one day you reconsider and try again because being able to say you’ve done the hardest solo dungeon in the game solo is definitely not something to sneeze at :-)
If anyone wants advice on clearing, I used prismatic warlock on first encounter w/ parasite to chunk the brigs. Song of flame solar on second encounter with rain of fire + wardcliff for dps. Song of flame solar with speaker’s sight and anarchy + lost signal for third. It took seven phases lol but I’d rather it take that long than push for less and risk death

    • @Cpt_John_Price

This is why I NEVER attempt to SFa dungeon as early as possible. I need to wait for a couple more weeks and many more dungeon clears (completing triumphs and getting weapon rolls, the whole shibang) before I take a dip into the water . I SF all dungeons this way. Which means I need to wait for Act 3 to do a sf attempt on this one.
Also, patience is a virtue, I would rather take 24 hours on a consistent run than 1 hour of uncertain you-might-gonna-die-at-one-point.

I think what they could do is scale the difficulty similarly to the legendary campaigns. The less people in the fireteam, the less health enemies and bosses have and you take slightly less damage. If you have 3 people, the difficulty is unchanged. This may not be the best way to do it or even a good way, but I do think it could be a start.

As someone who has solo flawlessed every dungeon on a hunter except Vesper, Vesper absolutely eclipses all of them
In difficulty just because of Atraks. I just want them to tone down the lightning as there’s way too much during DPS. I just needed one more damage phase and I would have completed it but I tragically misjumped and died to the lightning. I’ve completely given up on a solo flawless at this point and just want to solo the damn thing but Atraks is such a test of patience that it makes Ghosts look like a cakewalk in comparison.

  • @oaxis8198
    @oaxis8198 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

As a dungeon soloist myself, I can totally understand the frustration. It's really annoying to do 15 minutes mechanic to get to puppeteer and die to a lightning.
It is quite overwhelming to dodge all the bullets, find cover, dodge lightning, dodge the clones and also do damage, but it is doable once I realized that I just have to slow down and take my time.
But also I'd still prefer if dungeon is impossibly hard rather than easy one.
I prefer if I have a really hard challenge that I really have to improve myself to complete, rather than just one more dungeon to cross off the list.
I would prefer if it took me months to complete a dungeon solo flawless (Cough, cough, ghost of the deep), because once I completed it, I would've learned so many things I would never have learned otherwise.
It also incentivizes build crafting. I use karnstein and a glaive for my solo flawless run when I'm up on the atracks dps phase for sustain which I had never touched. And let's be real, what else would we use grand overture for.
TLDR: I think harder than usual is better easier than usual. Unique encounter design and hazard should be encourage only if it can be played around skillfully.

Honestly, the one thought I have had about solo Dungeons since the Wish was why doesn't bungie give solo players a buff similar to Solo Operative from the Relic. Just a buff that doesn't go away as long as the player is in the instance solo. Hell, it could also only effect specific enemies like Bosses/Minibosses. Even if its not a huge increase, just knowing you have more damage capabilities would help with the feelings when it comes to a long draw out multi-phase fight.
Hell, part of this thought came from the fact that I did Solo Shattered Throne really. Never had had a reason to do it until I started hitting off my own checklist of dungeons. And noticed that even though the boss has millions of HP, the fight doesn't feel that bad because we have an actual damage buff. yes, we don't always need such a huge one, but would be nice to have something.

  • @RubyAlternate
    @RubyAlternate หลายเดือนก่อน +12

I've attempted all other dungeons as a solo before, haven't completed some of them, but intend on coming back at some point. This is the only dungeon that I will not even attempt. I do not care, the only way I come back is if something is completely broken that trivializes Atraks.
However, with that being said, I really appreciate the fact that Bungie is still finding ways to make something difficult in the game. We're insanely OP right now and many times I think "there's no way they can make this difficult" and every time we are humbled. I just hope that there's a better balance in the future of insta-kill mechanics, as those are just not fun.

  • @officialredrab
    @officialredrab หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I agree that the solo experience is horrible specifically for Atraks. You have so many things to micromanage, which wouldn't be a bad thing if it didn't take forever just to kill Atraks. On top of having to shift the buffs around, you have to worry about dealing with ads, which isn't bad, until you reach the radioheads (radiation clones) on the lower levels which can very easily position themselves to a point where you just can't escape them, and on top of that the radius of their range is HUGE while also building radiation stacks pretty quickly. You also can't deal with them because they spawn infinitely. (Yes I tried to just cleanse them and go about the encounter without killing them, new ones kept spawning anyway.) It makes getting to damage phases so frustrating because those clones can easily destroy a run much faster than anything in a dps phase. Where the melee wraiths could've been frustrating in Warlords, they at least had less spawn in during a solo run and there were ways to go about them while also dodging the boss. Imo Warlords Ruin straddles the the line of difficulty and mechanics perfectly, even with the frustrations it could bring.

Did this as my first so dungeon ever the other day. I used really similar builds and gave up my first day bc I was tired but came back again and beat it pretty smoothly the day after. Here’s some tips I learned along the way that could REALLY help u if u ever do it again:
for first encounter, use parasite, it’s like it was made for this encounter, can one shot the invis dudes and kill brigs easy.
2nd encounter: use tractor cannon if you can, and quake like pretty close to the front guy, at least from my run it gets the most consistent 3 phase damage. Also, watch out for the explosive shanks on the left, they will sneak up on you
For the last: use suppressor on the bottom floor, it’s a lot slower but makes it a piece of cake, also in the red room if you shoot the panel as you go to the dunk spot the boss will be in an animation while u dunk so you can be full for the mechanics. For damage, right when u pop out of the hole gl him for weaken and immediately volley, then go to ur spot and pop barricade, make sure u use 3 barricade kickstarts so you can have a brocade up at all times. Last tip is to save your super until he spawns the second wave of ads, then kill the nuke puppet and then attack boss. If you don’t have healing for the second half of the damage, just hide in the back of the nuke room and try to get some safe shots in, it’s better than dying. Sorry for the long comment I just hope this helps if u ever do it

My complaint with the solo flawless is just that the reward isn't worth it, they should have switched the contest and solo emblems IMO because the contest one looked so cool, and I'd definately grind for that. Also, solo Ghosts of the Deep isn't that bad, I've done it twice, I won't say Ecthar doesn't have too much health, but Simmuma's not that bad, it definately is an endurance battle, but once you get it down, it's not that hard to pull off consistantly.

For me, I believe that there is a way to big of a difficulty gap for solo players. For me, I played by myself and a very few times with my friends, so I mainly played crucible and strikes, I only managed to complete two dungeons in my entire time playing Destiny, and that was with friends. I feel like there should be a mini dungeon to introduce solo players, new players, and players who never touched a dungeon before to ease them into understanding how they work. It doesn't have to be super easy on the level side, but it should help the player with balancing problem solving, being aware of surroundings, and thinking on your feet. When we did the dungeons we wanted to try to do it blind but we gotten so confused with the puzzles we had to pull up guides. (Edit: Sorry for the yapping.)

I'll have to agree with you on the last encounter being more frustrating than a good experience. It really feels like they didn't consider the solo experience for the last part of the dungeon probably for the sake of the difficulty. Maybe they wanted challenge at the contest mode by sacrificing it being too easy and now the solo player suffers for it.
Honestly, i just don't enjoy how many times you need to do the build up to the damage phase and it is the most frustrating part for me. I really think the immune shield being gone in ONE rotation would be fine, but you need two because i guess they wanted us to be in both rooms hah I get that you need to traversal and all but i'm almost sure they got scared about the dungeon being too easy.

I don't disagree at all. I hate the solo experience for the final encounter. I've done a solo flawless on every other dungeon. Been a rank 11 ever since Lightfall.
But with this dungeon I had to throw in the towel on retaining rank 11 and even getting a solo clear.
Now don't get me wrong, I was definitely making it harder on myself in that I refused to play anything but Hunter. But I just don't agree with how much hp the boss has.
I did one damage phase which took like 10 minutes to get to, saw I only did like 8% and I just completely gave up. I nearly died like nine times, and dps itself was a struggle.
I'm fine with the first two encounters, they're not too tedious or difficult, right about the difficulty it should be for solo on the second encounter. But that final encounter is just not made for solo. Not saying it's impossible, but by the time I get there, I'm tired. And after a single damage phase, I'm exhausted

I see and understand your frustration. This dungeon is really hard and takes a while to get done solo. However, I much prefer this over something I can just roll through, without much experimentation and effort. It feels immensly statisfying to get a solo flawless of this, even if you use the so called cheese-strategies and with enough practise, it would probably also be feasible to just dodge the lightning in the last phase.

  • @BluTurtl

I don’t want this to come off as “just jump forehead” but the lightning in this dungeon has no vertical hitbox, so while it does cover nearly the whole boss arena it ends up just being an awareness check since you have until you come down to find somewhere not yellow to chill at.
I’m a destiny vet and soloing the dungeons when they come out is a regular thing for me so my opinions on the final boss definitely differ, but I respect your conclusion on the dungeon and your dedication to giving the solo your best effort before forming any takeaways. Banger video as always 🔥

I do want to enjoy this dungeon like the first encounter can be done relatively quickly and the second encounters mechanic is kinda cool and you can use a pretty wide selection of weapons. but that last encounter but the frustration of even getting to a damage phase of the last boss is rough and even at damage the lightning restricts your movement a bit to much. Spending so much time getting to damage just to get insta-killed by the lightning you probably didnt even see coming is so discouraging. Makes another situation of "once i get the exotic im never doing the dungeon again i dont even catalyst." I still commend yall sticking with it that far really makes me wanna attempt my solo run again lol.

This dungeon was alright for solo flawless imo. First two encounters felt easy to me, but the last encounter is definitely a haul. All I’ll say is I wish the lightning was a different color, or the boss had a bit less health, but I enjoyed the Solo Flawless challenge it brought. Ghosts of the Deep is the only dungeon left I haven’t done or even attempted by myself, but Vespers host in my opinion, is very close to being a great solo and solo flawless dungeon experience

Me and some of my friends were semi hesitant to try contest mode, and figured we would run normal to learn and practice before jumping into it. We immediately agreed it was not happening, I personally do not enjoy insta kill attacks/mechanics that you cannot counter. If it was even remotely survivable I might see different, but this is another dungeon I refuse to attempt even a solo of at this time. (fun fact if you've read this far: the lightning is tied to the boss herself, so if you Slice her with strand it will reduce the damage it does. Whether that makes it survivable in ANY way I cannot confirm)

My thing with the solo experience is that everything is comfortably doable except Atrax, which requires really locking in. First encounter is a breeze, second takes 4-5 phases AT MOST and that's with using Dimensional Hypotrochoid (Neomuna GL). Atrax took me somewhere around 6 phases (all on Warlock). With how long it takes to get to a damage phase, it should be dropped down a little. The lightning is a point of contention, I think it just needs a color change. If you keep mobile during certain portions and use the barrel the rest of the time, it is not the worst. What's difficult is seeing the yellow on bright colored flooring.

Me and my friend attempted to duo Vesper's and I like the design of the dungeon right up to the final boss which I feel is a little bit too overkill on difficulty. I don't mind the challenge of always being on your toes for this dungeon but the amount of times we wiped to radiation on the puppets has made us not want to complete the final encounter just because of how hard it is to avoid, especially in the panel rooms. If the radiation was implemented in a different way like having trap mines that release a radiation bubble if triggered would be a better implement of it because you can avoid it completely by either avoiding the trap mines or avoiding the general area, or destroy the traps which would risk you getting stabbed from behind by the replications, not having them on the replications themselves as there's too much staked on chance as to if you survive the replications or not

  • @ALEXACEDEATH
    @ALEXACEDEATH หลายเดือนก่อน

Personally I did this on a lorelei titan as well. Now that ignitions are finally fixed I think I'll give flawless another shot on my warlock. When I soloed her, I think it took me... maybe 6-8 phases. I followed Mactic's advise to the letter... Except for one detail... I threw grand overture into the trash. Allthough its definitely the weapon with the highest dps for this encounter hands down... It's a pain in the ass to take advantage of it solo, specially because the rockets more often than not, lock onto the clones and don't do squat to the boss (and now you can't even precharge the rockets downstairs, so that first free burst is off the table). So... I decided to pull out the tried and true leviathan's breath. So... even though the ammo economy is abysmal when it comes to levi's, it does force you to generally play smart and it still pumps out more than decent damage... I think you might even be able to 5 or maybe even 4 phase her if you can manage to dump your whole reserves and super on her. ALSO, the AOE can actually kill the clones that spawn near her.
For example my phases were mostly dependant on how much ammo I had, the state of my super and the amount of abilities at my disposal. If I ran out of two of these during the first half of my damage phase, I wouldn't even consider grabbing the bomb and going into the bunker, I'd just dip down the hole as soon as she went immune. But in the case I stayed for the second phase (which I highly advise against) I'd just chill inside the bunker and would just shoot her from behind the door (you don't get much damage if the teleport is unlucky, BUT it's still free, and much safer damage). As for the traversal sections my best advice comes as follows:
-Always suppress the clones in the bunker rooms.
-Forget about depositing scanner and just pick it up on your way to the next room.
-Learn the cheese spots within the traversal sections were the clones can't reach you.
-Learn how to weave through the mines.
-Pop supers and use heavy to stay alive and go faster.
-In the case that you reach the boss with neither, just relax and wait, or go downstairs with the new exotic and get kills to make some heavy.
Is the final boss horribly unfair? Yes. Does it take too much solo? Yep. But is the encounter as unforgiving as GOTD or as finicky as Caiatl or as loadout specific as the spire bosses? Heck no! This is one of the dungeons that has taken me the less time to solo, and I aint a great player. You can survive throughout this dungeon, you can die super easy, GRANTED, but once you learn how to avoid all the perrils, it suddenly become clockwork, and all you have to do is stay on your toes.
I swear when it clicks, it feels like Neo seeing the code for the first time.
Also real talk... The best build for this might actually be the 2 phase build. It does have low survivability, but the damage is worth it, and you can probably master it after a few tries. If you can pop anarchy and two supers every half phase, you can easily and safely 4 or even three phase him. I recently realized that if you keep bobbing between the 3 main plates and spam anarchy and abilities while killing the clones as they spawn, you're somehow less likely to get struck by lightning... Don't ask me how.

I personally loved the solo flawless of this dungeon. The first 2 encounters (especially when the duplication glitch was still a thing) were pretty quick, but I completely understand why anyone would be discouraged from running solo due to the last encounter. If the boss had like 1/3 of the hp she does now it would be a skill issue, but this is just kinda ridiculous.

Literally the only problem I have with this dungeon is Atraks. The rest of the dungeon is fine and I actually love it I always love replaying it but once I'm on my way to Atraks I feel so depressed just because the mechanics that can kill you are annoying I do agree the lightning needs to be changed because I can't for the life of me tell where to go to be safe and I don't have much time to react either so if I don't head in a safe direction right off the rip im dead. On top of that the radiation, it's something me and my team hated on contest because it would just ruin some good runs. For solo runs I feel like the lightning should be scaled down like have less lightning the less players are in your fireteam and vice versa

    • @ImKevinDurant

I enjoy Atraks with a team but solo is pure pain. I wish the lighting acted similar to the witness dps phase in Salvations Edge, where it has set patterns so you can dodge it as long as you know where it’s going each time.

    My thoughts?
Both difficulty and my experience respectively:
The difficulty had initially had me thinking HARD that I was no longer the target audience for experiencing the dungeon, all previous installments had me content with the difficulty of the encounters(simmumah was simply an endurance check that my body couldnt handle at the time, still cant and ive lost my touch -_-)
the lasers felt like they werent meant to be telegraphed by the designers but they made them "visible" so they could get away with one shotting you.
Fortunately they put in those cheese spots, although they all have their own downsides, ie exposure, distance, and the chance to get one shot respectively
    As for my experience:
I personally had a blast with my solo flawless, the week prior i was basically doing the entire dungeon quest line solo, giving me tons of experience with the first 2 encounters.
As for atrax? i had a solo checkpoint session where i learned some basic strategy and hammered out my overture damage(also loreley titan). I died halfway on that solo but went on for the flawless.
    Greatest idea ever.
everything went as smooth as possible, the only close calls were near the start.
almost died to a brig cannon in the first.
1 single exploder got close to me in the 3 phases i scored on raneiks.
prepping triple arc surges/time dial with the infinite augment vandals cheese and gl weakens/radiant to get the closest 4 phase ever recorded.
Im SUPER proud for the first try, its probably my greatest accomplishment other than not beating ghosts solo flawless until the craftening.
BUT it saddens me because between this and warlord's having the same first try, i never got the adrenaline rush from *finally* getting the clear.
i will say, if solo operative ever rolls around i recommend trying again, you'll have a better handle on the mechanics and it would be a net damage increase compared to just weakening with gls.
    Loved the vid
