Never heard Pavarotti say that an opera voice was like a wildflower. I did hear him say that the tenor voice must be like a wild animal, like a tiger that is ready to jump . As far as Alagna is concerned, I do agree that he did have a fascinating voice.

While the words I have seen used for a long time to describe the qualities of Roberto Alagna's voice ("warm", "sunny", "golden", "passionate", "emotional") are certainly accurate, the one that resonates with me, and always strikes me as the best, is Pavarotti's own choice: "fascinating"

I always get criticised when I comment on opera videos but.....
Roberto Alagna´s voice, to me, is the most like Pavarotti´s though not as powerful as any of the Three Tenors.
You obviously haven't heard him live in a big hall like Opera Bastille. It's the most resonant lyrical voice of today!
turbofreddy - Agreed. I’m not at all surprised at your Bastille experience. When I heard him at an even larger outdoor venue (theatre antique, Orange), I found his voice to be the strongest-sounding of all those in the cast.
