Monofoil wingsurfing. Wingfoiling without a stabilizer.

- Out of curiosity, I wanted to test if I could wing surf without a stabilizer on the foil. I chose a large low aspect foil, thinking it would be the easiest to succeed with. It also has a shape that is closest to some of the few dedicated monoplane foils I have seen.

If you really want to pursue this, I would recommend the Delta Hydrofoil 1500 R wing. It has reflex built into the wing and it was designed specifically as a mono wing. It also works great with a stabilizer. In any case riding without a stab is challenging and you did very well. Flat, stable water is a great help.

Triton will bring out a Monofoil in April 2023 designed for Wingfoil. I hope you get a chance to try it and share your experience
Great POV in your video
Nice one! I also rode 2 of my foils stabless. Sadly I can't reach significantly higher speeds than 20 kmh but I do like the dragless feel and the good starting behaviour of it. By GPS measuring I also found out it was a liittle bit betterr upwind than with stab if you really force it to. If you look at Horst Sergios videos he seems to have found a setup that is mono AND fast.
Getting up in the air on the foil was definitely easy with this setup in light wind. I propably have to test with smaller front wings and stronger wind to get the draggles feel.
@@wingsurffi Yes I tried a Delta/North 1500 (r) and a North MA 1200 you can watch on my channel but consider that I don't have your level of control already so only starting behaviour might be useful for you. If you are interested Triton Foils will bring a winging dedicated reflex based monofoil end of this month for about 1500 USD.
Wow, that's impressive i think. Sea Doo is coming out with an E foil next summer that I believe is a mono.
next step - wingfoiling without foil...
Another cool one 👍🏄🏼♂️
The stab is here to avoid the wing from pitching down, and if properly set to avoid moving your feet (center of gravity) with speed.
Very informative, thanks
Hi, cool angle and view. What camera and mounting are you using? Thank you in advance. Kind Regards Marco
Great vid thanks
Got a video of a guy windsurfing on Choctawhatchee Bay in Florida. It so shallow (-3ft) I think this foil would chunk the sand bottom like the windsurfer did here.
Really GOOD flyers can cruise in a foot of water. keep the foil at the surface. hard for most, but no biggie for the real 'pros' out there.
Morning. Great shots! As a beginner I’m finding the need for more sail area I think. I’m in south Florida on flat water so far and I have a 4.5 m wing.
Just not enough I see you flying in what looks to be not very windy conditions. What size wing do you have in this video?
I would rather be out more than wait for the perfect conditions, more wing more time on the water I’m thinking.
Thank you
Yohan.
Hi, I use 7m2 Takoon wing in this case.
Here in the midwest on lakes a 4.5 is for Windy spring/fall days. Need a 6.0+ for our light breezes in the summer. I am 225lbs though.
Get a Triton X1 monofoil you will be very surprised (in a good way) 🤙
next step will be to remove the tail from a aircraft
Any benefits?
The wind died down and I only got to fly a few times, so I didn't get a chance to get fully accustomed yet. Byt it was relatively easy to pump with my feet on the toe side - at least that's how it felt. That is the side that is twisted awkwardly. I have noticed the same thing with smaller stabilizers. Otherwise, I don't really see much use for that setup. Maybe on a light wind day, I'll try again as a balance exercise, or more wind and smaller front wing. It certainly will help develop sensitivity.
less drag
