    Been following this series closely. I own a 2006 1720 Sportsman with a 90 Etec. I got off my butt and did my thermostat and a new thermostat housing yesterday. I was happy to see not a single bit of corrosion while doing it. I do use salt off every time I run the boat, new to me since 2017. Replaced the wiper nut on the steering rod also. Thanks for the inspiration.

    You are a very thorough mechanic is great to watch your videos I enjoy watching them!!! Two strokes are great engines when you take care of them and they last forever, keep the videos coming very informative and fun.

    You make things look a lot easier than most folks will find. Did you hear Suzuki is paying big dollars for 2 stroke trade ins. Government is putting pressure on them to get rid of 2 strokes.

    Appreciate you not wearing gloves, old fashion DIY here sorry for that, just wondering how people get a feel of what they touch when wearing gloves. My first block removal one was quite some time ago, it was a V4 130 Yam, great engine, should have realized oil in tank was not going down, (many decide to mix in tank and get rid of the oil injection pump) a friend borrowed the boat one day, has to happen that way does it (?) and called me to say the engine was seized. Found 1 piston in bits and metal everywhere, purchased a used block and since there had been a big storm managed to have insurance pay for it, when expert looked at it he said: well yeh that is exactly what it looks like when you get water in fuel tank. I said: yeh right! last I know that engine still runs after 15 years. The one thing I remember was that after cleaning the exhaust labyrinth at the back I saw for the first time and to my surprise the gas coming out outside the water at idle, I didn't know about the water/exhaust gas pressure balancing and gas being diverted to prop hub. Mine was always going to prop. I think that single 130 was consuming as much as my now twin 150's haha. Anything that gets you on the water is a good thing, treat it well, thank you sir. you just reminded me I need to replace the upper engine mount silent blocks on 1 engine. When I get the time...

      What do you mean oil in tank not going down?

    • @denislaouenan5553
      @denislaouenan5553 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mikesolns1364 There are few reasons the oil injection would stop functioning, the oil pump itself could be damaged, the cam follower pushing on the pump plunger were 2 common things that could happen. In my case it was the pump itself not delivering any oil into the crankcase suction. The oil tank level was not lowering when I was using the engine and I should have clicked that the engine was poorly lubricated. It is important to make a rough calculation of how much oil you need to fill for the gas that has been consumed. If I remember the ratio is 2 to 4 %. or 50/1 to 25/1. After having lost a power head some guys preferred to do the oil mix directly inside the gas tank. I personally didn't like like the idea because the oil could be sitting on the bottom of the gas tank, get sucked in fast leaving a poor oil mix to burn for the rest of the tank.

    • @mikesolns1364
      @mikesolns1364 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@denislaouenan5553 The part of it being able to sit at the bottom of the tank is what I need to pick your brain on. Do you have any reason to believe that has a high probability of happening? I premix, reason why I ask you

      @@mikesolns1364 I would try to pre-mix in a bottle and let it stand for a while and see if it settle. I am not sure to be honest. NB I have not had a 2s for the last 15 years but I think if my next boat comes with 2 stroke so be it, you would have to be on the water every single day on the water to actually get a return on investment from replacing outboards with 4s

    Hey, do you have any suggestions for mildew treatment and prevention for a sea doo? I got hurt and didn’t fool with my jet skis and I pulled the 300 dollar cover off and the seats are full of mold and mildew. I thought the cover would keep it dry and keep the ski from fading. But the joke is on me. Thanks for any advice and suggestions for this.

    Im thinking to do the same for evinrude 175. It has problem with cooling of 1 of the banks. Need to clean the exhaust cooling and maybe lift it and remove salt and barnacles underneath it. How did your powerhead look underneath after all these years?

    Gday mate yep be there done that , i have a 40hp 92 model and have done a full strip down and rebuild .I disconected the oil injection and just went to premix , i always take photos of things i pull apart .The hardest part i would say was refitting the pistons to the conrods trying to line up the gudgeon pin wave washers and all those needle rollers it took me two days i am glad i upgraded to a four stroke if it has to be done there shell bearings easy peasy . did you do any work on the engine ? i spent an age cleaning the water galleries and head and cover till it was spotless soaked the block head and cover in C.L.R worked well internal anodes changed for new honed the bores new rings carb kits and cleaned the list goes on it scares me to think how much i did do to it anyway good video .

    These videos are super helpful. About the time you started posting this 90, I bought a boat that came with one. I’m working through an overheat issue, I’ve done impeller, housing, thermostat, popit valve, pulled and cleaned water jackets, exhaust cover, head, etc. This is my first attempt at any like project like this, not a mechanic by any means.
    It seems better, but it’s still not pissin with nearly as much pressure as when I got it a few months ago. A few buddies have said I’ll have to pull the power head and see if there’s a clog in the pickup tube, or if that grommet is disintegrated. Is it just the two fasteners holding in the oil pump? When I removed them, I was still struggling to get the pump off. I’m not too worried about damaging the pump, it was bypassed long before I bought it and I run premixed. Any advice on getting the pump out would be greatly appreciated.
