  • Hey! This video series is about some great tips&tricks on how to create stuff inside Cinema 4D. Today I'll show you live action footage compositing.
    Enjoy!

how do i render and export the final 3D composition back into after effects??

    • @Danieltakacsvfx

You can use different render engines, also the ones built into cinema 4d. I'd recommend you watching some tutorials about that, but it's not that difficult, you'll see

@@Danieltakacsvfx yes I have octane render, but is there a specific way to render it out (as an alpha?) to bring it back into after effects

@@bleusd If you applied the shadow catcher material, then you don't need a matte AOV pass. You can toggle alpha channel(transparency) in the octane render settings. If everything is correct, you should see the checker background in the live viewer

How do I get the long form video of this. Please help.

I might make a longer version, but you can also find other longer videos on this topic on TH-cam. That's why I'm trying to specialise in this quicker, more stripped-down style.

Blender has better, faster and easier workflow for this though

I can agree with that but at the same time if you want to do it all in one Cinema 4D is lot better a sims and stuff like that, both have there ups and down yet neither is objectively better

You can’t do it all in one with Cinema 4d. You need after effects. That’s what’s nice about Blender, you don’t need any other program like after effects. You don’t need a renderer either in Blender like you do in Cinema 4d or Maya or 3dMax. And the best part is Blender is free. I used to use Cinema 4d and Maya. I’ll never go back to them. Blender is easier to learn and use. I’ve done a lot more stuff with Blender.

@@LeonardoMastrogiovanni I completly agree with that, Houdini is definitely the best for that, I also agree that Blender is objectively better and to use what you prefer, I personally use blender I was just saying other softwears are better at "their thing" and blender is better all around :)

@@ThePianoman63I use mostly Houdini for production work but started in C4D which I still use as many of our broadcast clients still have C4D / Redshift as part of their production pipeline. All of that said this video sort of has a strange workflow. You don’t need after effects with C4D to do this workflow, it can all be done inside of C4D. C4D’s built in camera tracker is much more sophisticated and far more accurate than the one built into After Effects. I’d argue that C4Ds camera tracker is a little better and far easier to use than Blenders built in tracking system also.
For most production level jobs we use Syntheyes or PF track but C4Ds tracker is actually really good. For broadcast jobs and many of our smaller VFX jobs we tend to track in Syntheyes, sim in Houdini and bring everything into C4D for scene assembly, lighting and rendering.
Don’t get me wrong I like Blender and use it for personal projects from time to time but all the agencies we work with for broadcast have pretty much migrated to Redshift for its crazy speed and Redshift is heavily integrated into C4D.
For higher end VFX jobs for film production they are all Arnold Render for final frame rendering which is not really an option for Blender although there was some effort a while back to bring Arnold to Blender called “Barnold” if i remember correctly.
