I have the NT1, I have to say I'm impressed with Samson CO1 in comparison, I would not be concerned to use any of them for vocal applications. Thanks for the review!

It's funny. I own both an NT1 and a c01. I bought the NT1 as a straight up replacement for the c01. Was definitely impressed with the noise floor but I just decided to go back to the c01 for some fierce vocal recording and... I was able to get a satisfying recording going with the c01 that I was just struggling to do with the NT1. It was so damn counter intuitive to me. It just worked really well with what I was going for. So now I have the two of them side by side hooked up to my mixer. I guess I'm just going to bounce back and forward between the two.

Hi. In the past I've owned the more expensive condenser mics such as the Audio Technica AT4040 and also a AT2035. I currently own Samson C01 (XLR version not USB) and have had it for about 2 years. I use a small Wharfadale Connect 502 mixer to power it up and use Reaper to record it. It being a mid size diaphragm mic I wasn't sure what to expect but I did see quite a few favourable reviews on it so bought one. In using it I would say in a blind test this $100 mic sounds a lot more expensive then I first assumed. I did quite a lot of extensive testing on it by getting isolated voice tracks of famous songs from singers such as Freddy Mercury, Lou Graham etc. Once I EQ'ed the vocal track to match the singers I then cleaned up the my vocal track and popped it into the instrumental version of some of those singers songs and was very surprised at how good and clear it sounds in the mix. The sound was very professional!! (I know Freddy was using the AKG C414 which is an excellent mic but expensive but I found the C01 when EQ'ed was right up there). And that's the key......the EQ ing of the mic by testing it to an isolated vocal track (I used the Butch Vig vocal plugin for eq, compression and saturation). Its a bright and open sounding mic but very natural and doesn't color the sound which is great as you have more room to color and give it character in post. And it is not just cardioid but Super Cardioid. This a very important detail to consider because most of us are recording either in our bedroom or study room which is not the most ideal way. Because it rejects noise both from back and sides more then most condenser mics you get close to no external noise from your room. My office where I record vocals has no treatment except carpet and some curtains but being a mid size condensor and super cardioid it picks up very little around it except the front. Its one of the best mic for noise rejection!! There will be noise floor on the C01 if you turn up the gain on the mixer to a hotter level. However this is not necessary in this day and age of using a digital DAW (back in analog days that was more critical and important). In conclusion in my testing this mic it has a very natural open sound. Crisp but not harsh. In a blind test its on same level with far more expensive mics out there. And it is Super Cardioid which is important because most of us are recording in untreated rooms. 😃👍

Impressed by C01, especially considering the price. Samson always in the much higher league, than the price suggests. NT1 good as well.

Thx for the info, I cant hear the NT1 being any better than the Samson. On their site, the C01 is 40-18000hz

Thanks for the review! I currently have a C01 (I got it as a gift 10+ years ago) and it has been my vocal condenser mic for recording rock vocals ever since. For my band's debut record I am thinking of grabbing a Rode NT1 for the sole reason that the C01 has the excessive floor noise :'( Hey Chris, great video, thank you for this, If you could answer, budget aside, do you think there would be a significant difference in using the NT1 over the C01 for recording lead vocals? I am great with post processing. Cheers! I liked and subbed.

I have the Samson and it is Frequency Response 30-18000 +/- 3 DB; Samson is a Hyper-Cardioid.

I think the Samsung C1 is 200 Output
Self Noise 23 dB Signal to Noise Ratio 71 dB 40 Hz - 18 kHz no low cut filter. And no pad. I think it did pretty good but I like the sound of the other a little better than the Samsung C1 but it's a very small difference.

This is kind of unbelievable. They sounded almost exactly the same before the pop filter tests and stuff. In other TH-cam video's there's a bigger difference.
The NT1 was a little warmer i think. But i don't necessarily prefer either one. Crazy/

I have both. Bought the NT1 to replace the C01... Went back to the c01 loads of times though. c01 is so underrated.
