Oh, how I LOVE these classic Weird Tales!! 🖤 TRULY, I DO!! - I have so much admiration & appreciation for Ian Gordon and his voice-acting abilities and his exquisite storytelling skills, and for everyone else at HorrorBabble who help bring these classic stories to life!! 👏
Lol, I know….I love this channel. It’s leagues above creepy pasta channels and spooky reading channels more closely related to horrorbabble. Ian’s narration and excellent taste in literature just sets this channel apart.
Really good story and narration. Liked that the protagonist has a decent amount of sense and that the neighbor is trying to take action to prevent unnecessary harm.
I think one of the major issues in modern horror is that the characters always lack basic practicality and reasoning. Not just that, but 90% of the time, the protagonist is suffering alone, and nobody believes them until something terrible happens. It's impossible to get attached to characters like that because they're nothing like real people
Whenever you do the readings through the voice of the older gentlemen, you always do it such justice. No matter the story, that's always one of my favorite details. Just fantastic
not gonna lie… i was listening to around 5 or so channels for restfulness but over the last 8 months or so this is nearly the only channel i abide by. can’t thank you enough for the great content and the ease at which you set my mind when it is time to wind down.
One of my favorite ghost stories. A great example of how the devil (so to speak) is in the details with this genre - the basics of the plot are totally standard, but the language and the descriptions make it hair raising and emotionally convincing.
I represent the said "Warren" mentioned in the opening salvo of HorrorBabble videos. Warren (whose first name shall remain anonymous for reasons of privacy) claims that the report of his death is highly exaggerated and that, indeed, he still lives. The rumor of his death has caused him no small number of problems. Employers take one look at his resume and say, "We don't hire dead people, buddy, sorry. They call in sick too often." His attempts to find dates are met with, "Eww, no, dude, you're dead! Gross!" Even his mother called and asked why she was not invited to the funeral. I am presenting you with this order to cease and desist stating this fallacious claim and to retract the report of Warren's death.
I liked this protagonist. He didn't immediately accept that the house was haunted but he also didn't refuse to believe it, and he went about it in a very sensible way. He was rational in the sense that he carefully considered what he and his family was going through without bias, none of that "I will not believe in such superstitions! Egad, I have died from fright, witnessing something I refuse to comprehend!" nonsense.
Wakefield wrote some great stories. I'd like to hear Look Up There read. Hearing a narration and reading a story give you two very different experiences, both good.
good one - the end was a relief. thanks Ian. things have been rather rough lately - sometimes i listen to a tale i know well just to listen to your calm voice. (i often wish you guys would read stories or novels other than the macabre. and have you ever read Bram Stoker?). thanks again. have a great day hopefully without snow. :) ❄️✨

Ok can some astute member of the horrorbabble community clue me in to the “warren is dead bit” I’ve only been subd. For a few months and have likely listened to everything but I’d love to get the joke. Is it from a piece of old literature, from hence most of these stories were taken? Thanks in advance. Big fan, trav.
This is a scary af story. I dont think i will be listening to this again nor the end as im turning it off before the end, that damn green thing is scary af

EXCELLENT
Warren a funny for a turkey !

One listener said when he started listening to this channel, Warren was still alive!
Wow, that was a good one. That final line about the permanent occupants of the Red Lodge gave me an excellent Hill House vibe.
A slice of cherry pie and some damn fine coffee goes well with this story!
Or with anything really.
Good choice. Yours, Diane.

Thank you!
A nice old-fashioned haunted house tale..which are my favorites. Of course your excellent narration is just 'icing on the cake'. And I do love cake!
Indeed*************
I forgot about Wakefield. It’s been years since I read his stories. He is certainly a major contributor to Horror Fiction.
His “Look Up There” is a really unusual and underappreciated ghost story, one of my personal favorites.
IMEO, this is one of the great horror short stories.
IMAO, I agree ;P

Oh how wonderful. I've been longing to find a good rendition of this fantastic tale. Thank you Horror Babble. Always the best.
So like an M. R. James story when some hideous thing actually materializes!
Your voice to Horror, is what Mark nelson's voice is to sci fi ..bloody great. Thanks again mate.
Thank you again Ian, your efforts are deeply appreciated
... Indeed!!! ❤️
That was a good one!!! Thank you so much!!
Thank you HB, I love this story a lot and is one of my favorites.
listening from the uk wales2021❤️
Haha, the narrator explains how delicacy is required to help overcome childhood fears, then pressures the child to go boating😂
"No, you don't have to go. Now get in the boat." lol
Early, but not early enough to save Warren
Only one of Great Race of Yith could hope to.
😂😂😂
Yes!! I’m glad you guys did this one. I love this story and always have to dig around to find it.
Another fantastic tale. Thanks so much for the work you do!
Gosh, that was a great ‘haunted house’ story!
I’m so excited! Thanks so much for taking my recommendation! This absolutely made my day.
A wonderfully visual tale.
Warren is just waiting for the heat to die down. He'll be back.
A fine tale.
Kudos to the narrator and author 🎉🎉
Excellent.
Appreciate your efforts in posting this awesome audio content! Thank You & Cheers to you friend!
I am not dead & I approve this yarn! -- Warren!
Genuinely chilling. Bravo 👏 Thanks for another amazing narration Ian 😄
This one actually managed to creep me out. Great story!
Warren: for all time, brother, hail and farewell!
“Again, I called down, ‘Warren, are you there?’...”
Keep up the good work fella and stay safe...

Another gem, I always have a second listen. Always amazing but sometimes it's even better second time round!
This was class! Well done!
Drat. I thought maybe Warren had recovered, I am indeed a fool.

Omg the part about his mom calling about not being invited to the funeral had me freaking dying of laughter.

I would sleep there!
I seriously need a " You fool Warren is dead" tank top.
My mother keeps Christmas 187,000 degrees wherever she is.
Ohh yes great story
I wish I could afford to get his books but by God they are expensive 😢
"I knew I must fight! So I lay back in bed."
I think I will stay awake until dawn.
The first time I read it about 40 years ago, I spent the night with my head under the covers.
I'm still trying to find the video where Warren is alive
Once the neighbors came to call, I remembered this story, I just couldn't place the title. I blame Kyle McLachlan.
It’s called the red lodge
