    This is like very late, but I just really want you to know.
    The first was Longganisa, not Langganisa (you've probably read this in the comments already but still), and when it's paired with fried rice and eggs it's called Longsilog.
    The long brown thing, that was not Lumpia, we call that Shanghai. Lumpia has a more pale colour, it's bigger than Shanghai, and it has more filling.
    Dinuguan not Dgunine.
    Also, side note: Adobo tastes better (in my opinion, at least) if the stew isn't so dry, but don't put too much on the rice 'cause it won't taste good

    When I was in Japan I cooked dinuguan and share to my Japanese friends, knowing that they afraid to eat blood I told them its a chocolate, once they eaten they said its not sweet. Well I said the cacao was not bear as sweet unless it was manipulated by factory to add sugar to become sweet and added that a dark colored food looks likes chocolates are not always sweet its on your mind setting. After they finished and enjoyed the dinuguan I told them its not chocolates but its a pig blood. The result is they love it and wanted me to cook more on the next meeting. 😇😇😇

    The Philippines is unique in south east asia, in that our food is not as spicy as malaysia or indonesia. instead of using chilli and spice to preserve meat or get rid of parasites/bad stuff in meat (because natural refrigeration or cold weather is not a thing in tropical regions), the Philippines uses vinegar a lot as a means of preparing pork/beef. So many of our dishes is based on marinating or boiling the meat is vinegar in combination with other ingredients (soy, garlic, onion, spices, ginger, etc)

      @Nil_Sama 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      hannah marie "Some" dishes, our neighbors (ASEAN) on the other hand, use chili in most of their dishes so the first comment is right. Also it's true that we use vinegar in preservation and preparation. We use vinegar in marinades for barbecues or bistek etc. In the Visayas regions (where I live) we use it for different kinds of paksiw which is also a type of preserved dish. Adobo is also another dish that was created by our ancestors to preserve meat (no, the dish itself is not of Spanish influence, just the name) Personally I've seen that whenever my mom makes dried fish she marinades the fish in vinegar, garlic and salt to keep the flies away and to add flavor. Some of the other popular preserved meat dishes using vinegar are tapa, longganisa and tocino.

    i think it would have been better if the DINUGUAN was the dry version usually served at wedding receptions in the provinces (in the Philippines).
    Halo-Halo usually has steps in eating.
    First mix it all up, then when it's all mixed up try having a spoonful of each ingredients. Lastly the last was when the ice melts you drink the liquid and scoop what's usually left.

    Also the Ube is Purple yam, not taro, taro is called Gabi in tagalog. They are both root vegetables but not the same, like how you classify, potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, taro, yuca etc.

    So let me get this straight.... These people live in LA and none of them have ever tried any Filipino food? I'm so confused. Do they live in Korea Town and never eat anything but Korean food on a daily basis? Mind boggling to me.
