  • In this video, we discuss the difference between shutter speed and shutter angle. As well as giving an explanation on why it's easier to use shutter angle and how to determine what shutter speed a shutter angle is filming at. This is a time-saving setting that is available to use in the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera (BMPCC4K) and one that you'll need to learn about if you are used to using a DSLR camera.

    It seems that many who do videos on shutter, never touch on "over-cranking" or slo-mo and shutter angle. When shooting for slo-mo, you want a faster shutter speed or a smaller shutter angle for less blur.

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh, for sure! That's a good idea to cover in another video on this subject for the pocket 6k pro. I will say, generally keeping it at 180 shutter angle is fine and what most people will do. Totally fine to start adjusting it but I think I almost need to do a whole separate video on the stylistic effects you can achieve at different shutter angles at varying frame rates. Because you don't always want to not have less blur for slow motion depending on what you are filming. Interesting thoughts though, gives me a good idea for a new video. Appreciate that!

    So... If I set my shutter angle to 180, it will always be double the FrameRate even if I change the FPS during a shoot??

  • @MikeEdwardsphotography
    @MikeEdwardsphotography 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video. I wonder though. With shutter angle available, why would anyone use or need shutter speed?

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would say probably because a lot of cameras you film on are photography cameras as well so it makes sense to use them in that situation. But sometimes having the ability to be very specific with shutter speed can be useful. But you're right, if shutter angle is available just keep it on that unless you need it for something specific.

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! Nope! As long as you keep it at 180 shutter angle it will adjust no matter which fps you're in. Leaving it at 180 will always act like doubling the shutter speed compared to your fps. Shutter angle is not a constant like shutter speed and can adjust itself automatically That make sense?

      Love his video on it! Pretty sure we've linked to it somewhere in the comments. But I totally agree. Every camera is different and you really need to do you research and own testing. What's that saying that you really can't fully understand how to use a camera unless you've used it constantly for 6 months?

  • @dkkeyz8815

    So basically saying to use shutter angle instead because you can set it to 180 and forget it, regardless of your frame rate?

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yep! At a 180 shutter angle it always equal double the frame rate in shutter speed no matter what your frame rate is at. Now, there are circumstances where you should change it but in most situations you want it at 180 for that nice cinematic look. Pretty cool right?
