Very nice video. I've lived most of my adult life next to a coal delivery line. In 35 years I never got tired of watching the coal trains coming and going. Now the last remaining coal-fired power plants in New York State have been shut down, and the last coal train came through in February 2019. I have no opinion one way or the other about the burning of coal, but I miss the trains already.

I suppose you could "blame" this on PSR. But RRs have always looked for ways to reduce costs, and combining two trains into one between Wyoming and Clinton makes sense - fewer crews. East of Clinton, handling a really long train has problems not seen west of Clinton.
Yeah that is true, but seeing those trains many times before they never did that operation. So to us watching that was our first thought, perhaps it was a result of that.
No, there were two units on the head and two in the middle and a rear unit. The first train had the lead units and the first unit of the middle two for it's DPU. The second unit of the middle was the lead and the rear stayed put. CP coal trains off UP always one unit on each end. Hope that isn't too confusing.
This train sucks... I’ve been on it twice and it’s a SLUG across the street which already has several “break in two” spots. It’s a pain to put it together and a pain to take it apart. Have to do a whole new class 1 in Clinton because it’s an originating train. Company does this stuff with PSR to save money and could care less about efficiency. So while it looks cool, it’s really a piece of junk.

Thank you! It is sad the coal industry is slowly being put to death, but don't count it out yet.
Jeff nice video, love seeing trains coming and going from Clinton, I lived there for 30 years. Was Ron there with you, I thought I saw him. Thanks.
Thanks John! Yes Ron was there, we try to get together on Thursdays and either hit Savanna or Clinton. Thanks for watching John!
Have you ever checked out my CNW playlist in the 90s, might bring back some memories. Ron was also with me for a lot of that footage.
@@jefftoft5568 Jeff I looked for it but could not find it please tell me how to find it here or Ron has my e-mail address. Thanks.

Right in on fun time
Thank you!
I assume the rear DPU drops off at Clinton, IA?

That was the longest coal train I have ever seen. That makes me wonder how much longer the United States will have its own coal reserves.....
There is a lot coal for many many years.

I believe you Patrick! Thanks for your insight.
