in real life an engagement like this would be complicated. in a close in brawl were both ships are broadside to each other, Scharnhorst could win, she has more secondaries, more guns and a faster reload time but less chance of a shell doing damage, whilst Renown has extremally hard hitting guns, but has too little and a slower reload. on the 9th of April it would be tested, Renown encounter both of the twins, she damaged Gneisenau moderately, (due to them disengaging), though they got more shot, they only did superficial damage, whilst renown straddled them, with her extremally accurate fire, and did some damage. had Renown been able to chase them down she probably would have taken down Gneisenau. it think in most cases Renown would win.
Why would renown seek a close-in brawl - It had 32.5 knots and 5" deck armor - Its 15" guns could could do their job from afar where the 11" would have little impact
