- Advanced tyrannosaurids are known for their short forelimbs. Do you know who had proportionately the shortest? You probably thought the answer was Tyrannosaurus.
Unfortunately, that was wrong. It was Tarbosaurus.
Tarbosaurus was a tyrannosaurid that lived in the Late Cretaceous Period, in present-day Mongolia and China. It seemed to be almost the same as the T. rex found in North America, so much so that some paleontologists thought that they may be the same species. Modern work has however shown that they were indeed different kinds of animals.
