I am retired now but I used to care for elderly people in their homes. Nearly all my furniture and most mirrors, lamps and bits and bobs were given to me by the old people or their relatives. Plus I've lovingly held on to the few things I was able to save from my grandparents apartment in Vienna. They have a craftsmanship that you just couldn't possibly afford today. My mother and grandmother both made their own lace and embroidery. I like to honor their skill and effort by displaying their work. I hope someone who appreciates these things gets them when I die.
I totally agree with you, that’s why almost everything in my house is either thrifted or given to me as hand me downs. Thrifting is my favorite thing to do.

This is SUCH a fun tour - I remember when you found many of these items, I remember you figuring out the origin of the German cabinet and when you first got the quilt that lovely viewer made you, I remember the first configuration of the side room with the awkwardly angled wall and loved that one AND this new one, and all the videos about the process of decorating the dining room... wow! In every piece, every room - so many fun memories as well as learning new things about them. Thank you!

Wow, I thought I was the only person whose ENTIRE house is from thrift stores! I love that I'm rescuing good stuff from ending up in the landfill, and my house is not cookie cutter - it's my style. There should be a book on us!

I'll just go ahead and throw this out there since we're talking about thrifting ...'it's like a box of Cracker Jacks you never know what you're going to get'....till you find it. How beautifully your colors and furniture work together....AMAZING PIECES, here. You've done a wonderful job of having quite a few books, pictures... and things like that; and yet, you kept the space, uncluttered. One main goal that I had when we moved.... Was to keep the space "paired down" yet used the things I loved(most of it, "thrifted", as well) to make our house a home. Great job this was an amazing tour!😀

I built my forever home 4 years ago, and needed to furnish and accessorize it almost completely from scratch. About 75% had to be thrifted or from Craigslist, but they are the highest quality, most beautifully-made antique and vintage pieces I've ever owned. I will never again waste my money on mass-produced, pressboard 'trends'. You have collected with a good eye and all your pieces will look as good in your new home as they do in your current rental because they reflect you.

I am SO Sick of MDF and particle board furniture! I’m in the midst of selling and replacing just about everything in my house made of the stuff, in exchange for hardwood. I want my furniture to last.
My entire house is furnished from off the street (people in my town just put stuff outside, I love it!) except the loveseat that’s been in my family since the late 1940s, the couch, mattresses and box springs as I bought those new. Two days ago I found a claw foot dining table and chairs! I just put the dining set I scored two years ago outside for someone else.

Now I really love the library...glad you kept playing with it (the couch is my least favorite there). As a women, I love all the pink highlights in the living room! Loved this! The framed embroidery reminded me of time spent doing this with my grandmother. You have given me some ideas on how to refresh my space mixing our antique furniture pieces , artwork and plates. 😊
It's lovely when things are repurposed and given a new life in a new home. My issue is falling into a thrift addiction and turning a home into a "thrift" store. I don't mind having a few vintage pieces of art and home decor if they are meaningful. For me I have a hard time cherry picking the very best from a thrift store not because I need it but because I understand its value and its a good buy, that leaves the garbage for people without resources who only have this option to put their house together. I have struggled with "maximizing" because thrifting is so fun and exciting. I am glad that thrifting doesn't have the stigma it did when I was a kid. It is really "cool" for teenagers to thrift now, and it kinda levels the playing field for kids from different economical backgrounds.
It is a buyers market to buy antiques. I really love your house. It looks like you have been collecting for many years. Adding legs to pieces of furniture is brilliant and so creative. I remember your traveling days. What a family history the two of you have created. And a personal thank you for making me feel better about my stacks and stacks and stacks of magazines.

I am pretty sure that small Gentleman's travelling cabinet would have held the "gozunder" aka Toilet (usually they went under the bed hence the nick name because it goes under the bed....so many Treasures loving the Embroidery Flower pictures too! Adored the yellow couch and Red rug in bedroom ! We love the hunt too and Our place is filled with unique things , My mother was an antique dealer so I grew up with them and absorbed a lot of knowledge by just being around them and can spot a bargain ..we also love to watch Antiques rd show and have fun guessing the prices ..I totally agree with saving them going to the tip ...there is No such thing as throwing away as it is all on the Planet x

I can hardly wait to thrift again! You gave me such great ideas. I became a partial quadriplegic at the first of the year (due to a slew of autoimmune diseases)and am gaining mobility. In fact I’ve been walking (with a walker) for the past few days. So very excited to get out there and hit the thrift stores 💕
We love thrifting. My mother-in-law is 87 and she loves thrifting. She loves books. We try to take her on Saturday. Our kids enjoy it too! It’s gets her out and we enjoy all of our time we spend with her. My Grandma was a thrifter. Love you guys!

I have hand me downs from my family! I am so proud to have my Daddy’s antique desk he gave me,my grandpa’s dresser and all the bits and bobs from family and thrift stores! I also have a quilt my Grandmother made me and 2 quilts my Aunt Willie Mae made me!

The pink rug...OH MY WORD I LOVE THAT. And the one in your bedroom....WOW. I am not a person who likes these types of rugs, or maybe I am not able to see what they would look good with, if that makes sense. I have NO design sense. I do not know how to mix color and texture etc. I am amazed with people, like you, who have a vision and are able to make things look amazing together. I love books. I love to read. That idea that we are told what to like by stores and magazines fascinated me, because it's so true. I used to have a friend who would change everything out on an almost yearly basis, which I found shocking. I was brought up to buy things that would last, from clothes to furniture. I like knowing that , for example, the bedroom furniture I have now, I've had for 30 years, and I will have for the rest of my life. It's comforting that the stuff my mum bought for me, I still have, even though she is no longer here. I really enjoyed this video! Btw, you got h have fabulous hair!!

Hello yall. I began thrifting and redoing because i had no money. I like you have a thrifted home. I started 30 years ago collecting. I’m still loving some of the things that I originally purchased. I do switch out furniture etc. as the mood tells me. Purchase what you love and you’ll keep it forever. Besides, we have enough new stuff in the US. Thrift is the way to go. God bless.

Outstanding!! Beautiful pieces all over. Love your colors and arrangements. One piece of advice with the antiques, do the small repairs but not all over re-do to maintain the quality. This was something a professional told me when I carried a broken antique chair to him. He fixed my chair to look never broken but still very old. I have had it for 50 years and it was very old when I purchased it. Happy hunting you are doing awesome.

I’ve been thrifting since I was 16. My whole apt is done in teak. I loved your point about old woods and art. I’ve scored amazing art to complement my own photography. It’s a green way to live and it’s a joy to assemble beautiful objects with soul.
I love the tour of your house! I also love to shop second hand for treasures. They will stand the test of time, where as stuff in the stores does not last. It gives your home character also! Thanks for some inspiration and ideas!

We’ve been married for 47 and in all that time we’ve hardly bought anything new ,We emigrated from England to Florida 30 years ago and had to fill an empty house,We thrifted did yard sales amend picked stuff thrown at the kerb ,Our house was mostly renovated with salvage from our antique shop ,what we made or allready had ,it’s the best way in my mind x

What I like is that you Megan have the artistic creative side. Mike has the talent to built and display what is needed. You both have each other and with your talents you also save money. I can hardly wait to thrift again! You gave me such great ideas. I became a partial quadriplegic at the first of the year (due to a slew of autoimmune diseases)and am gaining mobility. In fact I’ve been walking (with a walker) for the past few days. So very excited to get out there and hit the thrift stores 💕
We love thrifting. My mother-in-law is 87 and she loves thrifting. She loves books. We try to take her on Saturday. Our kids enjoy it too! It’s gets her out and we enjoy all of our time we spend with her. My Grandma was a thrifter. Love you guys!

I have hand me downs from my family! I am so proud to have my Daddy’s antique desk he gave me,my grandpa’s dresser and all the bits and bobs from family and thrift stores! I also have a quilt my Grandmother made me and 2 quilts my Aunt Willie Mae made me!

What a lovely home you’ve made! it’s bursting with personality and individuality. Above all, your message to recycle is crucial to help save our world ! if we all popped to our local thrift stores, charity shops etc, before buying new and draining natural resources, the impact would be immense !

The pink rug...OH MY WORD I LOVE THAT. And the one in your bedroom....WOW. I am not a person who likes these types of rugs, or maybe I am not able to see what they would look good with, if that makes sense. I have NO design sense. I do not know how to mix color and texture etc. I am amazed with people, like you, who have a vision and are able to make things look amazing together. I love books. I love to read. I never thought of collecting pretty books. I love the rainbow of books on the mantle.

That idea that we are told what to like by stores and magazines fascinated me, because it's so true. I used to have a friend who would change everything out on an almost yearly basis, which I found shocking. I was brought up to buy things that would last, from clothes to furniture. I like knowing that , for example, the bedroom furniture I have now, I've had for 30 years, and I will have for the rest of my life. It's comforting that the stuff my mum bought for me, I still have, even though she is no longer here.

I'm so glad I found you both,very talented.Thrifting is wonderful and you have a great imagination.I live in Va now I came out here in 85 I travel for a living,I would work four on four off,so what I use to do was go junkin on my days off.This afforded me the fact to pickup lovely items like you for little money.Watching your video was like I was watching my own life,and it made me so happy.Your sheet curtains down stairs in your red room,cracked me up it's something I would of done.Like you know it just takes a good eye for pickens and alot of imagination.Your house is beautiful and I'm so glad I found you.I will watch all your videos ,can't wait.And to think you both have 9 children,how awesome.I wish I was your neighbor for many reasons and we could go hunting for treasures.Best to you. Hello yall. I began thrifting and redoing because i had no money. I like you have a thrifted home. I started 30 years ago collecting. I’m still loving some of the things that I originally purchased. I do switch out furniture etc. as the mood tells me. Purchase what you love and you’ll keep it forever. Besides, we have enough new stuff in the US. Thrift is the way to go. God bless.

That’s an amazing gift you have to see past the “dirty” and be able to throw all the hodge podge of pieces together and come up with such a cohesive look! And LOVE that you’ve been able to re-use so many things and give them a 2nd life!

Outstanding!! Beautiful pieces all over. Love your colors and arrangements. One piece of advice with the antiques, do the small repairs but not all over re-do to maintain the quality. This was something a professional told me when I carried a broken antique chair to him. He fixed my chair to look never broken but still very old. I have had it for 50 years and it was very old when I purchased it. Happy hunting you are doing awesome.
