In this weeks landscape photography video, I try out the K&F Concept GD3W Geared tripod head and compare it to my existing set up.
Kentfaith sent over the geared head to try and have allowed me create this video including an unbiased review.
So why should you choose a geared head over a ball-head? Is the GD3W the right choice for landscape photography?
Watch the video for my honest opinion.

I’m using an Artcise Ball head at present, it’s beautifully made and very solid. I also have a few other Manfrotto ball heads too, but have been looking at a Geared Head, in particular the K&F.

I very rarely use ball heads these days. For landscape at least, I’m fully converted to the benefits of geared heads.
I’ve noticed that Neewer and Innorel also do some geared heads that look good for the money too.

Yeah! I recognise those woods! Just a hop, skip and jump from my house!
That K&F geared head looks like a quality piece of kit. 👍

Hi Garry some lovely bluebell images and a good look at the K&F Geared head. Like you i have used the Benro for the last year or so , after using a ballhead for many previous years. The geared head is certainly better for getting the composition exactly as you wan it. K&F seem to be a good company producing good products at reasonable price point. i have had a few of their filters and was not dissapointed.

Thanks 👍 Yep, I've used a lot of K&F stuff over the years. They seem to have really raised their game in recent years. Hopefully they keep those prices nice and competitive (not forgetting my discount code) :-)

Thanks 👍 It really is a great bit of kit. After using a geared head for the last few years, I don't think could go back to a ballhead for landscapes.

@@garrysugdenphotography I’ve been playing with the idea of getting one, I think your review has convinced me now 😀👍

It definitely looks like a worthy rival to the B***o one 😊 I thought the max load was quite low at 6Kg but just checked and it's more than the rival. I am considering getting another geared head for my 2nd tripod so will definitely consider this one

Absolutely worth every penny (with or without my discount code)... Its now permanently attached to my 2nd tripod :-)

The few times I've gone back to a ballhead... I've hated it.
Geared all the way from now on I think.

Try photographing totally shaded bluebells - you can get better images, imo - Great calming video, apt for the subject matter Garry. Cheers

You are absolutely right 👍🏻 Sadly I had a limited window with work commitments when I could get out with the camera. If I’d have waited for better conditions, the bluebells would probably have all died off ☹️ Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍🏻👍🏻

@@garrysugdenphotography I decided to follow the bluebells this year, which I can thoroughly recommend. Got as far as Golspie just south of John O'Groats. The best displays were actually in a National Trust for Scotland property south of Huntly called Leith Hall. I have lots of photos, but don't share on YT - don't have the desire to either.

“All-oo-min-ee-yum.” Look, we need to figure out on which side of the pond the pronunciation of the word originated on, because one of us is doing it wrong, and one of us needs to stop. Nice images, though.

Well as an industrial chemist of nearly 40 years, I’m not sure I can train my brain to say it any other way 🤣
As far as I remember it was discovered by a Danish or German chemist… so we are both pronouncing/spelling it wrong 🤣🤣
Maybe I need to upgrade to a magnesium tripod head 🤣🤣
Thanks for watching and taking the time comment 👍🏻 Really appreciate it 👍🏻
