    This is the first time I understood the why's of anodizing - thanks for explaining it so clearly and simply!

    I have a question, what are the main differences when machining with forged parts compared to the casting parts? Thanks.

    Thank you! Apparently, Aluminum Oxide does NOT conduct electricity, unfortunately. If I want my part to always conduct electricity, what is my least expensive option for finishing?

    • @ProtolabsMFG
      @ProtolabsMFG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Glenn! Thanks for your question. An anodized surface is an aluminum oxide surface and aluminum oxide is often selected because it is non-conductive this would not work. As a secondary finish if the bare material is not desired we could only recommend Chromate conversion Coating. check out our website for more info on materials and finishes. www.3dhubs.com/ Hope that helps!

      @@ProtolabsMFG Thank you! If I used the bare metal, does aluminum oxidize quickly in a household environment, or could I expect it to stay conductive for a few years?

    • @ProtolabsMFG
      @ProtolabsMFG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GlennLewis Oxidisation will start quickly and without a protective coating/surface finish we would not expect the Aluminium to stay conductive, at least not on the surface.
