- Marketing of early dive masks included beautiful boxes, funny product claims and even safe diving tips. Alec shows old masks with plastic, glass and tempered glass lenses plus the interesting boxes they came in.

- a 1961 Healthways "Professional Deep Sea Dive Mask", glass lens $3.95 US new, model 1205
- endorsed by "Larry (Buster) Crabbe" and "Johnny Weissmuller", both played Tarzan in 1930's and 1940's movies
- the green "Dolfin Deluxe" with plastic globe lens
- a 1961 Healthways "Compensator Professional", Masque Français, $5.95 US new, model 1273 with tempered glass lens
- came in a beautiful box of a diver spearing a huge swordfish
- a 1961 Healthways "Skin and Scuba Diving Equipment" catalogue inside the mask box

"Masque Francais" looks exactly like the one I was using when I started in the late 70s... no big sword fish like that to spear though my dad had stories of big ones :) great memories.
I had a Lego mini-figure when I was a kid that had a mask like that.
Even though I know better gear exists, my inner child still wants an oval mask, double hose reg, and the old school Jet fins.
Inner child! Yep! I've got a couple of those too.
But I'm slowly learning to use my head.
The old stuff is pretty neat I agree.

I have the Healthways masque francais mask with the same box. I started diving when I was 11 years old.

I certainly am. Always been fascinated by scuba diving and the ocean in general. Being a native Floridian probably has a lot to do with it. Cheers~
I love the videos that you make, and I would really like if you did a series of the cheap vs expensive, ie the 300 regulators vs 800 dollar regulator. In the series you do this for all the mandatory parts, maybe even accessories ie. lights, cameras, knives. I am really curious about the different features so I know what to look for. I totally understand that this would be a lot out of your way so it's no biggie.
That's not out of the way at all. In fact, it's what I'm trying to do. It just takes time Riley.

Another great video Kevin and Alec ( see what I did there) how about a vintage drysuit episode starting from the beginning to where they have come to
I do have a dry suit from the 50's - basically a thin pure rubber suit that we wore over long underwear.
I'll see what we can do about a series.

there is already drysuti in the beginning... what we've been waiting for is the drysuit choices of today! the most expensive piece of equipment (short of re-breather) you'll own if you don't live in the tropics.
Alain Dumesny I am ordering a bare full custom drysuit will com with sitech cuffs p valve made to measure and it's only going to cost 3 grand it will have neoprene neck 2 pockets my lds will be taking all my measurements bare has one of the best warranties in the business the only ones cheaper are from the UK
Bare are great drysuit - I have 2 of them. their lifetime seam warranty seems really excellent, but I will be putting it to the test soon as I have what was their top of the line SB system (Stretchable Breathable) which fits like a glove and stretches! but it is delaminating (know issue apparently) and get wet inside now, which sucks... I called once and they didn't want to work on it (swap boots)! will try to replace next... my Bare NexGen (half the cost) is totally sealed and drys instantly as well as super light (travel).
when i was a kid (about 1995-2000) there was a masks like 3rd one in russia, it was green rubber tho, we didn`t know about scuba diving that time, old times :)

Yeap, very nice - actually i wasnt in to swimming alot that time, and had no ideo about equlizing or diving that time, didnt see alot too - very bad visibility in lake which ware near my home. sadly i lost a mask when i jumped from a tree to water
