There is no need to even consider the thought. This video is a twisting of the truth into a lie. Francis Scott Key was an abolitionist who went bankrupt buying slaves from their masters just so he could set them free. He gave many jobs and taught most how to read and write and trained several to earn a living. He immediately hired the slaves he purchased and put their wages into escrow accounts until the long tedious and expensive process of freeing them concluded then on the day they had completed that journey he gave them the full balance of their wages due having not only preparing them for a life of freedom but paying them with interest the wages he owed them. Unfortunately the law in Maryland at the time required a long drawn out process to free a slave. It was illegal to just let a slave free to go about their lives. You had to go to court to prove with witnesses and documentation that your slave was upstanding and able to make their way in life, hence teaching them and training them as clerks and other jobs normally reserved for white people. He also represented HUNDREDS of slaves and former slaves for FREE in lawsuits against their masters and former masters.
After his death 95% of the people who attended his funeral were Black. After his death several editors of newspapers disparaged his memory by calling him "that n***er lawyer"
Never feel afraid to correct those who would disparage the memory of the great abolitionist known as Francis Scott Key. Never feel the need to be ashamed for standing at attention with your hand over your heart while singing the National Anthem. Be proud they chose HIS poem for that purpose!

Key was pro slavery, and he did write a racist part in, but we don't even sing it. So no, the anthem as we sing it is not racist. We would not even get near the racist part if we were to sing a lot... do we call Germany racist for having its first two stanzas, which they do not even sing, have very racist implications (deutschland, deutschland, über alles, which means Germany, Germany, over all, as an example.) Coco Cisco yes because you completely missed out on what the song represents and what Francis Scott was trying to say about America. The song doesn’t even have anything to do with race, it has to do with how strong Americans are and how resilient we can be in the face of total destruction in order to defend the values that were laid out in the constitution that protects every American’s rights to this day. Whether or not he intended to, he wrote a song that preached the American values and how willing Americans are to defend them.

Dude was less than perfect and he was not defendable. His poem on the other hand that became a song that became our national anthem is just so beautiful and well written and well, well edited. The flag at fort McHenry never fell because after the mast that held the flag up was destroyed volunteers ran out into the open to hold the flag up till they were killed and others would go out to hold the flag up selflessly. Men died to keep that flag from falling and they died willingly and that is why the Star Spangled Banner is our national anthem as it remembers their sacrifice.

Ok, I’ll admit that I already didn’t like this video by the 10 sec. mark, but I didn’t want to judge this video without hearing the entire argument. By the end of the video I came to the conclusion that they missed the point entirely.
Yes, Francis Scott key was racist; I can agree with this statement. I can even agree that the original poem has racist elements and lines. What I don’t understand is how this makes the American national anthem racist(?)… you are talking about a line in the original poem that doesn’t even exist within the anthem. The poem was edited and repurposed to convey one specific message; a message that has absolutely NOTHING to do with race.
The national anthem is meant to inspire pride in American citizens for the resilience and perseverance of their people, even (or perhaps especially) while facing overwhelming odds. And here’s the real kicker: this message is meant for ALL American citizens, not just the white ones.
I don’t have a problem with people calling out the racism within our society, but I do have a problem with people that insist on finding it where it doesn’t exist and deliberately misinterpreting information to make if fit their view of the world.

I'm a socialist Canadian who has never stepped foot in America, and I disagree. Though many of America's systems are flawed and are unfortunately fraught with racist corruption, the symbols and anthem of America itself aren't racist and it is absurd to say so. It is also absurd to say that the country as a whole is racist; if part of a car is broken, no matter how significant that part is, the entire car itself is not also made broken simply due to the existence of the broken parts. Those parts can be replaced, and the car will function again, while still being the same car as it was before. The same goes for the United States of America.

    Define "racism"
You can't just say that if someone owns slaves they are racist
