Definitely talk to a lawyer about the insurance, you may have a case..also, I agree with others about the moving company and the landlord being the #1 suspects. It almost seems like someone was either partying there or squatting there ( the shoe) but just because the moving company is reputable, doesn't mean the employees were. They could have easily come back later because they knew nobody was around.

Thirding this. Any of the employees from the moving company or the landlord (or even if the landlord checked on your place with a friend) are suspects; if there are any other people who live in the building/on the same floor, they may be too. If that shoe was left untampered with, the police might be able to use it for fingerprints. Your landlord should have also been checking in regularly to ensure there weren't any leaks in the flat (key phrase: *should have*), so a timeline in between when they last checked versus when you got there would be informative.
Get a motion-sensing camera that will notify your phone when it sees someone. I'm sorry you had to deal with COVID and now this. I hope you can at least hunt down the camera from your grandmother and the guitar.

I feel like if someone squatted the place you would see a bit more of their belongings. And also trash and used cups and such. Like someone was actually living there. And not such a big pile of post near the door. To me seems more as if someone came in looked through the place, stole some things and left.

My “old aunty intuition” tells me that your landlord was letting someone squat in your apartment for free. Landlord is my number one suspect. That apartment looks like someone very messy was living there🤔🤔🤔

I’m so sorry. I don’t know about there but even here in America, movers will absolutely break, neglect or steal things no matter how reputable the company is. I’d ask the company for the info of exactly who came into your flat to do the quote, id question your land lord a lot too. Land lords are just regular people and can get super shady if they’re desperate for money.

They know it's there, they know she's not, they're not getting the job....all too easy to just let someone shady know the deal and then get a cut from whatever they take and sell.

I mostly know them since Mana-sama likes them lol If they did try and pawn it, I feel like using that would be a great way to get someone's memory jogging about getting that expensive guitar in their shop. At least they didn't ruin all the clothes, because that's the real treasure trove if they knew what they were looking at

Head to the nearest pawn shops, prepared with photos of the things that were stolen. No telling when you were robbed, but if it wasn't too long ago you still may be able to walk in and identify the items that are yours. My ex stole a bunch of my stuff once, and I found some of it at a nearby pawn shop. Even though they're not legally required to, they gave me my items back.

  • @mydizzymelody

I’m so sorry. I had this happen to me about 7 years ago. They took all of my jewelry, crystals, idols and furniture. They took it all! They destroyed the altar I had to my grandfather and til this day I have no way of replacing his photo. Thankfully they were caught and had to pay me back. But, they stole over $30,000 of goods and I only got $10,000 cash. My children still remember all of their expensive toys, collectibles and video gaming systems. Worst of all, I had a rookie Koby Bryant card worth at least $20,000 that I had bought for my first born back in 1997 for $90. I didn’t have it insured, and I have no proof I owned it, never photographed it. My home was burglarized by two white kids in their early 20’s who didn’t like Mexicans. It should’ve been charged as a hate crime as the girl involved was/is wealthy and well connected in the small town we lived in. This town used to be safe, now it’s meth ridden. I left with my children and started out new elsewhere. But, I try not to think of all they took, it still makes me sad, especially my children’s home videos that will never be returned or replaced. Some people are really a waste of space on this planet.

Oh, I relate to this all too well.
Years ago my house was broken into and robbed by my step brother. My room was ransacked, my game systems and some games taken, there was spray paint all over the floor, and some other things. But what utterly broke my heart was that a gold ring with the year of my birth my mom saved for years was stolen. My mom died in 2012 and my dad found it a few years later. Her apartment was broken into and everything was stolen only 2 days after she passed away, so that ring was all I had left of her.

There's nothing worse than being broken into....I also live in Scotland and we moved from Aberdeen to a place called Peterhead which was a huge mistake, as beautiful as the house was it never became our home after we got robbed just 3 days before our first Christmas there. They broke in while myself and my 2 daughters age 2 and 10 were asleep. Thankfully as we were in bungalow they kept to one side of the home and didn't come near the bedrooms but they woke me up when they knocked the kitchen blinds of the window.
After that i started having sleep paralysis and struggled to sleep, i dont know if it was a subconscious fear that brought it on.
As my partner was offshore at the time and my eldest son was at friend's, I don't think I've ever felt so vulnerable. Safe to say we moved to a wee village just outside of Aboyne and its the type of place you can leave your door unlocked and everyone looks out for one another.

I am very sorry that you were burgled. I experienced being burgled when I shared a flat with a friend in London, in the mid 1990's, in my previous career as a librarian. I returned home one afternoon, walked into my bedroom, and saw an individual standing there staring at some of my CD's (notably Sisters of Mercy; Fields of the Nephilim; Death in June; Killing Joke, Dead Can Dance, This Mortal Coil; London After Midnight, ect). I told them to leave, and they did. In hindsight, they clearly had no awareness of goth bands, esthetics/ fashion, or literature, judging by the expression on their face and their appearance. So I think that is what prevented anything from being stolen.

Oh my gosh, that's horrible! I'm so very sorry this happened to you. Not only does it suck that your things were gone through and some things are stolen but your flat therefore privacy was invaded, that makes one feel icky. I hope karma bites the gronk on the ass for doing this.

Not sure if local pawn shops there are like they are here in the US but I know here people have to show an I.D. to sell items to a shop. Could check the shops for the items missing and see if they have a record with a I.D. for who sold it to then. Worth a shot.

I feel ya on the insurance. My apartment building caught fire two weeks ago tonight and the insurance has been a pain. We were paying for $120,000 in insurance only to be told that $100,000 of that was liability. And that possibly $20,000 that we can get is all to help cover the over $70,000 in stuff we lost. And with the way they categorize things we probably won't even get the full $20,000. Like, wow, cool, super helpful. I have no more goth clothes, no more boots, no makeup, no computer, no Switch with thousands of hours of Animal Crossing, no more hundreds of Monster High dolls, no more ball jointed dolls, exactly zero if the photos I've ever taken or were taken of me as a child. And insurance won't be covering much at all. Yay!

As bad as it is to loose the stuff, I can imagine the feeling that someone was in your private area just going trough all your stuff must be horrible. Maybe you can look into some pawnshops nearby? For me they dont seem to be intelligent enough to drive a few miles to get money for the stuff :D

I don't know if they're a thing over there, but here we have like yardsale Facebook pages and such, you can post on some of those with photos of the items for people to BOLO. Or if you want to be more covert, post that you looking for items like your guitar for sale with letting on you were robbed.

I am so, so sorry that this happened!! I am hoping that they catch the piece of shit that did this to you, it's really awful when people steal from you. When I was in college, someone raided my desk drawer and took my secret stash of emergency cash. Cash is easily replaceable I know but still the thought that someone was rummaging through my things was unsettling.
I would keep checking the pawn shops and have them keep you up to date if anything turns up, keep us updated!! Much love from the US❤️

Stay safe! You need an alarm system so you can hopefully deter any other potential burglars. Can you install something like Ring on your apartment door so you can see on your phone or computer who's entering the flat?

My sister lives in Austria. She's worked so hard for so many years for everything she had. A few years ago her apartment was broken into and all her jewelry, electronics, her expensive collection of perfume amongst other things got stolen. She said those were just things, but some of the jewelry that was stolen had huge sentimental value to her like jewelry she got from her mom (we're really cousins, but we consider each other sisters) or the ring I got her when I went to Ireland, so she was very sad about that :( I remember crying when she told me, cause I know how hard she worked to get all those things. I'm really sorry that happened to you :( and that insurance company is a joke. And some things can't be replaced...

Oh no! That's awful! Everybody is shitty in this situation - the thieves, the insurance. When we are in a situation like that we see authorities don't give a damn. I hope at least it brings a new phase... when my boyfriend had his house robbed, it started a spiral of positive changes (we finally moved in together, and he bought even more incredible things). I think your taste in everything is incredible anyways!

A tip on guitars: take a photo of the label inside the instrument (if there’s a sound hole, such as violins, cellos and many guitars have - that’s where it will be). It will have a serial number to identify that specific instrument. If they remove the label, it drastically decreases the value so they’re not likely to do that. It’s also the first thing checked for authentication when it’s sold. It’s easy to determine if the label has been altered, changed, switched or tampered with. I hope this saves someone else some grief and they are able to reclaim their instruments.
Unfortunately, insurance companies are only on your side until something happens and you need them to reimburse you.

One of my favorite Twitch streamers is Windows To Sky, who play exclusively 78 records on hand cranked gramophones. They are super brilliant! In between records, they read old-timey “ads” that sound as if they could have happened in the 30s. Then they pick up their guitar and take any 20th century request. If they don’t know the song, they look it up, or play something very similar. Their voice is beautiful. Such a unique artist.
78 records are also fascinating because we are pretty certain that our parents, grandparents, perhaps great grandparents, listened to these songs in this manner, or on the radio, also played in this manner. Yayyy gramophones!!!💙💙💙
