(The following that has been written does not support any political side, rather it is describing my understanding of what the world has gone through in the past, and will likely continue to do in the future.)
Although Vantage is a song based off of the Dream SMP, it couldn’t apply better in our modern world than right now. Unfortunately, when I think of the majority of this world… politics… The first word that comes to mind is ‘conflict’. It is a bit ironic to me, in fact, that we try to celebrate differences, but the moment someone is too different in any kind of way, we shut them down as quickly as we can. It is society that gets in the way of thriving. It is social rules. It is social cues. It is arrogance. It is everyones opinion. It is everyone's vantage.
The beginning of the verse starts with adjectives describing an individual who is filled with the light of motivation and excitement. Shameless and earnest to create a beautiful life for themselves. Driven by their own conscience, that person knows what they want and what they believe. This could be seen as anyone at the beginning of the story. Zealous and ready to get started on a peaceful world of their own. The next words proceed to throw out an idea, how everyone believes that they are in the right. 99% of the world, I’m positive, do not try to hurt other people. They simply do what they do because they believe it is the right thing. This makes them the hero in their own story, doesn’t it? But in others' eyes, the other side's actions can be seen as nothing more than a king who points their sword at their brother.
We sow the seeds of peace, not sorrow… right? Isn’t that what everyone has strived for since the dawn of time? Again, it is ironic that even though we try to create peace, it somehow creates conflict, and we end up paying for the wars and contentions we create with our own hands.
Imagine you are standing in front of the number 9. One person could see it as the number 9, while the person standing on the other side of it could see the number 6. Does that make either of them wrong? No. They are standing on the same line, they simply are standing on different parts of that line.
As the next verse continues, more adjectives are used to describe a person. However, this time, these adjectives show growth/a fallen state. Fragile and broken. ‘Human’ is the next word to describe them. We are all human, but somehow we cannot see that, because of the barricade the ‘differences’ have made between us and them. We all hurt. We all rise and fall. We all know what it’s like to laugh or to cry, or to feel ashamed or left out. We all know these things, yet we burn those we don’t agree with down at any chance we get. Why? Because we each have our own opinion, and of course, that opinion is the only right one.
The song then goes somewhat quiet, as the vocals are filled with a bit of pain, along with the violin that takes over this beautiful moment. Vocals from over 200 volunteers fill the space, each a different individual, living soul singing that this is their vantage. They’ll have theirs, you’ll have yours, and the reason for this is because none of us could ever live the exact same life, and experience the exact same trials that others have seen. If only the world was easy to fix. But for now, we all continue in our ways which are clearly correct. This is what is happening throughout the Dream SMP. This is what is happening throughout the world. We will all continue in our vantages.
It takes a true masterpiece to beat Empty Pages, but you’ve done it. I completely agree with your rant, that’s exactly what I was thinking when I heard this song for the first time. Excellent work, everyone who participated in this project!

I haven't watched the DSMP, but I love this song and it reminds me of my own characters I'm writing.
And here I thought that Empty Pages could never be beat… then you all make this amazing piece. What a masterpiece. I’ve never loved the ending of a song more.
I love what you've said about how your song reflects not only the brilliant storyline of the DreamSMP, but also the state of society and social politics in the world at the moment. It's a very messy topic; you say something that someone feels is offensive to their opinion and you get your own opinion cancelled, and from then on it's just tit for tat. Everyone has different opinions and perspectives, but it is our varying vantages that can create a beautiful mosaic masterpiece of individuals in symbiosis. I just wish more people would realise that, and accept that we are all fallen beings that are riddled with flaws. We all fail. We all make mistakes. It's what makes us human. Forgiveness is the only way out of this hole humanity's dug itself into. I really appreciate your insight on it Winks, thank you for sharing!
if 2 people are looking at a 9 and someone else is standing on the other side they aint gonna see it as a 6, they will see it as a backwards 9, because a 6 is as upsidedown 9, or vice versa. a better example would be a b, and a d, as they are mirrored. or the black and white ball that is visible as white from one side, and black from another. Sorry if this seems rude, just couldn't help but point it out
“We’ve risen from the same ashes, yet we were each others matches” and “we’re standing on the same line but you are low and I am high” are just beautiful lines and perfect songwriting

I love this song and I completely agree with your rant! I now better understand why you put the choir in. Everyone singing, “it’s MY vantage. I’M in the right, not you.” This is so true in both the modern world and in the DreamSMP. Everyone has their differences, everyone has their flaws, but that’s what makes us human. Once we all understand that not everyone will agree with us, we may finally be able to live peacefully.

Winks man you are like the guru of TH-cam. Your rant in the description was very insightful and I completely agree with all that you said :0 we really are just living our own stories. Besides that, the song is incredible!! I love how it sounds like a war ballad, like people marching to battle, while also sounding like a song of mourning. Super cool!! >:0

To me this song seems like it could be used in a slightly different timeline of The Hunger Games. Before the gong sounds signaling The Tributes to start fighting, they all stand on they're pedestals singing this song as instructed to by The Capitol. Its meant to separate The Tributes from each other, "This my vantage, we'll never see eye to eye" The chorus all singing together the song is different however, as the 12 districts surround The Capitol they start singing this song as they storm the city. However its not directed at each other, its directed at The Capitol, the real enemy. The song they used to separate the districts from each other is now being used to separate The Capitol from the districts, The Capitol is low and the districts are high.

This song is truly a masterpiece! Every time I listen to it I get chills, and this time was no different. It’s so interesting reading through your thoughts (the description) and the reasoning behind the lyrics of the song! I’m so glad you guys have grown so much lately, you deserve it.
It always amaze me with these songs that not also connect with the stories in the DreamSMP but also portrayed with the real life events of the history of the past and the current. Whenever I hear this song, tears somehow escape to my eye while I reminescence what has occured to the lives of the past, but what we must to in the present is we must keep moving forward, choose the choices that is right and wrong to embark our own battles in the future. We choose our own Vantage.
Overall that's my rant why I love this that somehow I sang it all over and over everyday( ╹▽╹ )
