  • Many home-owners when building a new roof are faced with a common decision, choosing between natural slates and man-made roof slates. There are quite a few factors to consider, longevity, aesthetics and availability but most often the key one; price -- isn't as different as it might first appear.

It's already hard enough to hear this guy with the wind noise and hammering. Who thought it a good idea to add music to further drown him out? Can't hear him worth shit.

turn your volume up or get a hearing aid. the music is not needed or helpful but by no means unable to hear what he is saying.

From my limited experience - the most important thing deciding lifetime of your roof - it's the roofers installing it. There's so many shady ones doing absolutely appalling job which in the end results roofs that barely last 20 years. Needless to say I have some experience with those😭.

Hope you find the video useful. Apologies for the banging, we had to get an area covered as the rain was on it's way ... this is London after all!

I understand that Welsh slate lasts a hundred years or so. Chinese slates despite being millions of years old have iron within the slate leaves which oxidises due to exposure to the air and pushes the leaves of the slate apart within 10 to 15 years requiring total replacement. I know this from talking to roofers doing a local church for a second time. How does Spanish slate compare? Our slates are 180 years old on our roof!

Take no notice Welsh slate is the best Spanish slate is crap Chinese slate is slightly better but still crap terracotta small tile last hundreds of year's and with pattern tile looks the best but ultimately thatch is the lovelyest but doesn't last the longest.

Spanish are full a iron pyrite aswell. Soon roofs look awful with all stains all over place. They Brazilian is better but their not as strong. I’ve just done a roof with Brazilian and you only to look at em wrong and they break.

Your figures at the end contradict the video when you say there is not much cost difference as real slate shows upto double the cost.
If your going to be in the property for longer than 25 years then you need real slate.
For a refurb and sale or short term before sale then man made as you can leave the renewal after 25 years to a new owner

We have run extensive testing on color fade and we can proudly say that Davinci fades less than real slate. We do not use recycled polymers and our tiles do not get brittle over time that is why we have a limited lifetime warranty. People all over the country use Davinci from the intense UV and hail storms of Texas to Pittsburgh Pa that has the highest number of freeze thaw cycles in the country!

Unfortunately a lot of new natural slate are not good quality they are cheap for a reason imported from Spain and the like there seams to be no grading unlike Welsh which are as good as you get yes they are more expensive but worth every penny

Talking a load of nonsense. You can purchase fibre cement man made 500 x 250.
    Not just 600 x 300.
    Spanish is naff.

Get rid of the annoying background music. It's bad enough with the hammering and the wind noise without you adding pointless music to make it hard to hear the commentary. The information is the most important thing to hear, so thumbs up for that but thumbs down for making it harder to hear than necessary.

Ecostar has a 50 year warranty and cuts with a utility knife. This quick installation results in a large labor savings compared to real slate.
