I remember watching this when it was originally broadcast in Los Angeles. It was so funny to hear the rabbi calling the great Dylan "Bobby" like he was just another kid musician in the congregation.
According to the Sue Fishkoff book " The Rebbe's Army" p.167, Bob Dylan is one of the biggest names associated with Chabad. In the early 1980s, Chabad " rescued" Dylan from a brief flirtation with Christianity, and for several years, Bylan studied with Minneapolis Rabbis Manis Friedman and Moshe Feller, whom he visited also for Shabbat dinners. Dylan made surprise appereance at the 1988 and 1989 Chabad telethons, once playing " Hava Negila" on the harmonica.
So many people think Bob Dylan is very strange, but he just refuses to sit in the boxes that other people make for him. People think this is "weird," but it's actually completely normal. If the harmonica player was anybody but Bob Dylan.
🎈Lyrics : Hava nagila - Let's rejoice Hava nagila - Let's rejoice Hava nagila ve-nismeḥa - Let's rejoice and be happy Hava neranenah - Let's sing Hava neranenah - Let's sing Hava neranenah ve-nismeḥa - Let's sing and be happy Uru, uru aḥim! - Awake, awake, brothers! Absolutely! His grandparents are Jews who came to the U.S. from Russia and his real last name is Zimmerman. One of his sons is married to a Rabbi's daughter and all of his sons had Bar Mitzvahs!
A very different side to Bob Dylan....this is quite rare footage.....there's so many version of Hava Nagila...you name it, its been done...!! :) Techno, hip-hop , caberet, traditional, choral...musical...why not 60s flower power legend?
+Bill Rowland Bob Dylan is Jewish, he may not observe Judaism, but a Jew cannot stop being Jewish even if he converts or doesn't keep Jewish life and laws. :-)
It takes practice to get the right bends on a diatonic, it's not designed to play this scale lol. Ah well. I'll forgive him, though, because he can, like, write cool words and stuff ;)

For what it's worth, the rabbi is Rabbi Shlomo Cunin of Chabad, Los Angeles.
Cette chanson a fait le tour du Monde...superbe !
Peter Himmelman is Bob's son-in-law. Peter married Bob's adopted daughter Maria.
Bob dylan is an American long career..the humble quality to this is charming
"Hava negela blues" now there's a great song. :-)

Love how Bob Dylan seems to be just blowing random notes on that harmonica, as usual, lol

Oh...wow 😂
The guitarist on the right is the dad from the original Red Dawn: "Avenge me son, avennnnnge meeeee!"
Just realised that it's Harry Dean Statton on the far right. Makes this already weird thing much weirder (but a little cooler).

Absolutely! His grandparents are Jews who came to the U.S. from Russia and his real last name is Zimmerman. One of his sons is married to a Rabbi's daughter and all of his sons had Bar Mitzvahs!
Psalm 150:6
While the rest of the singers did their best to sing this beautiful song, old Bob had his harmonica stuck between his teeth.
For a French Telethon?
Touching- Because for all his confusion- is JUST that - at the end of it all- a Yid!
Shame he forgot it!
Originally it was a chabad lubavitch melody....look it up
Ha, va, havana, havana, gi, havana gi la.

NOBEL :-)
That was before Dylan forgot right from left.. Sadly!
Bob Dylan is an Artist, real art supersedes ALL religions. A real artist cannot be a member of a cult at the deepest level of consciousness.
The last I heard Dylan said he didn't have any particular religion.
I thought not having any particular religion was a good thing.
+Bill Rowland Bob Dylan is Jewish, he may not observe Judaism, but a Jew cannot stop being Jewish even if he converts or doesn't keep Jewish life and laws. :-)
Of course, you may sing a jewish song without being religious !
Sounds like he has no particular tune to play on that harp either.
Harry Dean Stanton with a kippah?
