E.BG.Robinson got better and better at acting as he aged: effortless acting: Try watching: SOYLENT GREEN : Charlton Heston was in it: superb: I read Charlton Heston treated EGR as a father, and the rapport was mutual.
My Dad's uncle was his lawyer. So the Robinson s came to Unkie's an Aunt Dorothys Christmas Eve dinners when we were kids. He was always smiling an friendly. No idea why they did not bring their son. Unless he wasnt yet born?
What a gem from 1946. I love Edward G Robinson, he never disappoints and of course Orson Welles is great too.Very strong supporting cast too. Excellent storyline and beautifully shot as well. Such a great finale in the clocktower and Orson's character meeting his end by the very mechanism he has just been repairing. I had never seen this one before. Just love these films from the 30s, 40s and 50s, so much better than much of what Hollywood churns out today. Thanks for uploading it.
A great movie, and an unusual one. The criminality is horrific, but there is a macabre comic element as well. Photographically brilliant. Have watched it at least three times.
I have watched this several times. The opponents Robinson 🆚 Welles, good 🆚 evil, Allies 🆚 Nazis is great and expertly and engagingly portrayed. The town that the criminal Nazi escaped to is truly delightful. Thanks for posting.
GREAT MOVIE I HAVE WATCHED THIS MOVIE MANY TIMES AND I AM WATCHING IT AGAIN ORSON WELLES IS WONDERFUL AND EDWARD G. ROBINSON IS GREAT I LOVE ALL THEIR MOVIES ALL THE PLAYERS ARE SO VERY GOOD IN THEIR PARTS THANK YOU BROKEN TROUT A MUST SEE MOVIE BY ALL THANK YOU AGAIN

I watched Eduard G.R. in "The Old Man Who Cried Wolf" and I had to look for other movies he played in. Great flicks. Interesting. This movie was made 32 years before my birth and it's a gem. Good actors they were.
What an extraordinary movie, an impeccable work, outstanding acting, remarkable detailing .... The story was spun so elegantly around the old typically European clock. Edward G. Robinson knew/knows no equal. (Apologies for not yet being very familiar with the work of Orson Welles, another legend.) Thank you, Broken Trout.
Good morning "BT", easily a 9 out of 10, this movie hangs in the top 3 movies that each actor has been in, all their performances were brilliant to say the least ... thanks for the upload
Brilliant, but you'd expect it to be with the greats of Orson wels, and Edward G Robinson my favorite actor. Strange to see Orson with a mustache. I could watch this over and over again. thank you so much for sharing.
great movie! much thanks for bringing us this movie! the talented Loretta Lynn is at her most gorgeous here where Orson Welles who plays such a great bad guy plays a similar version of his character in the film "M". good acting all around but the photography and scenes are stunning and stark, great use of shadows and hioghlights to build suspense. good storyline. all the CGI in the world doesnt hold a candle to a well made noir film
@@BrokenTrout I'm not kidding, the second I saw it halfway through the movie, I suspected it would play some role, though I'd never have guessed it would be in this manner, because it looked much smaller.
Loretta Young is absolutely amazing! I’ve watched this several times but this time I focused on her. She is so convincing and amazing; when she let Kindler lift her up and then tells him; I came to kill you is so shocking and believable. Robinson and Welles are also incredible. What a barn burner!!
The music is so intriguing. You know it is going to be a good picture. You can read the credits. Orson Welles direction is a clue that he is going to put a spell on your viewing.
Every year when I watch this, I simply have to comment on one of the greatest scenes in all Hollywood, namely Loretta Young shooting Orson Welles when they're in the clock tower.
Skewered by Lady Justice at the end. Nice bit of cinematic story telling by OW.. Eddie G. may have been short of stature but he comes on like a Pit Bull. This film has shades of camera angle, lighting, dialogue etc that show up 10 years later in OW's Touch Of Evil. Thank goodness neither of them have been colorized.
Supreme movie! I've seen it several times on t.v. See it here at Broken Trout! I was actually rooting for Franz Kindler(Orson Wells). He certainly could have escaped once again.
Strange that the judge calls his daughter "sister", his daughter calls him by his first name, and his sons call him "Sir". Was that a thing back in the 40s?
I just shared the film, which was all old "poker face" Orson welles doing. But the film is.... impressive. What a screenplay! "by the way. I am going to direct". Thanks Movie Monster.
Robinson, a Romanian Jew who's real name was Emanuel Goldenberg, was ready made for a Nazi hunter role. The Hollywood demonization of Germans carried on full-tilt post WWII.
As to the question that the man asked if was women Angels 👼🏽 or men angels? No where in the Bible does it mention or name women angels. Much less dog 🐩 angels. I’ve seen pictures or ceramics of dogs with angels wings and that’s an insult to God. He speaks of dogs as being the lowest things on earth 🌎. 😱😱😱
This movie, what a banger! The filthy Nazi swine up there on the clock tower at the end, his friend the devil spares him ... but the angel's sword of justices impales him good and proper. All with Edward G. Robinson, intense as ever, but fighting on the side of good here. Hoorrah!
I am certain that I could only see films featuring Edward G. Robinson and be perfectly content!
He was an excellent actor! I also like watching his films!
Throw in Bogart and Cagney and I'm on board.

Very nice movie.Edward G Robinson,Paul Muni n James Cagney were highly talented n skilled actors of golden era.

Incredible film. Loretta Young, what a performance!
Hi Zoey, all three of the leads did a fine job (Orson Welles was directing too!) Thanks for the comment.
@@BrokenTrout he was a spectacular director. So talented. Thanks for sharing this one!
Thanks Broken Trout for uploading in excellent video condition.
Not a problem Bob. I sought this one out, there is a HD version but I am not sure that is PD.

RN Kim: That's a laugh, Loretta Lynn. Make this into a musical. It's Loretta YOUNG.
It is a beautiful piece of cinema. Black and white is a wonderful thing.
"Spies on parade".
This is absolutely superb.
Excellent old movie, watched in my
Hotel room on the way to Florida for the first time a few years ago.
The clock! Very memorable.
Hey Nathan, Watch out for the pointy end of the angel ehh?

Ànd Loretta Young
Great movie! Fine cinema! Thank you.
That old lady at the end was wonderful!
I would have feel for it too the way she was carrying on.

NO DOUBT! I thought she was gonna win a stuffed bear or a kewpie doll, but no, just a nazi war criminal.
Edward G Robinson what else can one say.
Great film.
This film ending was a little far fetch but after all it's Hollywood.
Edward G Robinson was in the movie House Of Strangers. He was great in it as usual. It’s a very interesting, enjoyable movie.
One more gem from edie.....good one.

Espionage crime noir thriller movie! (say that three times backwards) Excellent film.
Brilliant dialogue....

hi Robert you are correct about the escape, They blew the chance to have a sequel "In search of the stranger"
A MUST SEE MOVIE 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥
I'm sorry, but as soon as he locked my dog in the cellar he'd be an ex husband lol!
Eddie Gee is THE MAN!
I love that ending.
Yes. The perfect definition of "poetic justice".🗡️🕞
A YOUNG RICHARD LONG,REMEMBER HIM FROM THE BIG VALLEY SERIES IN THE MIS 60'S.
The first time I saw Richard Long was in "House on Haunted Hill" starring Vincent Price 13 years after this.👺
loretta youn g fabulous allso orson welles' and edward g robinson and great character actors
Strange that the judge calls his daughter "sister", his daughter calls him by his first name, and his sons call him "Sir". Was that a thing back in the 40s?
Incredible movie. Watched this couple of years ago. Never forgot it. What reception did it have on its release? Top-drawer flick.
Orson Welles should have been in silent movies, he needs no dialogue, his face says it all! Great film,BT, one of your best.
I just shared the film, which was all old "poker face" Orson welles doing. But the film is.... impressive. What a screenplay!
"by the way. I am going to direct". Thanks Movie Monster.
A good film with a Hitchcock style ending.
Tell me it’s not the town of The Harper P.T.A. 🎶🎶 🎶
It's surprising that this film was made less than 1 year after the end of the 2nd World War because of its storyline
Robinson, a Romanian Jew who's real name was Emanuel Goldenberg, was ready made for a Nazi hunter role. The Hollywood demonization of Germans carried on full-tilt post WWII.
Hollywood had to keep up their anti-German propaganda in order to cover their Lies about WWII.
At 5:46 there are two palm trees in the background on the left side in "Connecticut".
Marvellous film ,especially poignant during the aftermath of 2020 US elections.
Big difference Whit today's actors

It is not a dog, it is the Dragon and the other one is the Archangel Michael, not a woman! From Revelation 12.
❤❤❤
Orson Wells? Why not in credits?

Was a good wife there!
ORSON WELLS, A REAL COLD BLOODED KILLER IN THIS MOVIE.
LORETTA YOUNG, AS BEAUTIFUL AS EVER. SHE HAD VERY HIGH MORAL CHRISTIAN STANDARDS, SOMETHING LACKING IN HOLLYWOOD TODAY.
Why would someone with very high moral Christian standards fell for the anti-Christs propaganda of Hollywood?
Over acting much?
no....that is appropriate behavior for someone when they discover they just married a Nazi war criminal. Typical reaction.
What a great movie. Suspenseful and creepy all the way through. I’ll bet Clark Gable liked dogs 🐕 and wouldn’t have killed Red. 😱😱😱🥹🥹🥹😳😳😳🐕🐕🐕
