    Brilliant interview! She clarified my thoughts particularly on the nature of this current situation. “It’s
    just not the wars we previously experienced like WW1 & 2, but a hybrid warfare the whole world got involved”. I think she is right and it’s absurdly unfair of us not to equip 🇺🇦 fully.
    Thank you both. I really appreciate her calm and articulate manner of talking🙏 Please have her regularly💕

    This was very interesting to understand the origins of some of the corruption, and the efforts to cleanse Ukrainian society of these soviet vestiges. And also her exhortation to understand what Ukrainians have been saying, that putin escalates as a reaction to weakness, should govern our response to russian threats. There are a lot of young dynamic democratic activists, many of whom are interviewed on this channel, who will lead Ukraine capably after victory. Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇦

    I don't live in the USA and yes, I see a disturbing trend in the US toward oligarchy, oligarchs and the extremely wealthy people owning media outlets, newspapers, even social media platforms.
    The American oligarchs are still not publicly seen but they're definitely influencing governments, from county to federal, including the court system. Americans call it "dark money" behind political candidates, parties, so the Russian ambition to divide, increase tensions, pit one side against the other has become obvious.
    France , Germany both face this type of political maneuvering from the extremely conservative fanatics, factions.
    It would be interesting to follow the money, find out exactly how much money is used to push political parties, followers into "othering" anyone else.

    • @krissteel4074
      @krissteel4074 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a problem more or less everywhere that the more money you can throw at 'donations' the better your ability to shape parts of he tax, legal and labour laws. The other thing to consider is that yes, they attract a lot of completely desperate and fanatical followers looking for a reason to exist in their life. We could belittle them as well, but its more a case of them having a right to vote as much as anyone else and addressing the root causes for them not understanding why 'adopting an oligarch' is perhaps offering a little bit of temporal stability now, but your kids will hate your guts forever as they are enabled to conduct destructive practices.
      Plus at a basic level, you're a blue collar bloke who's just propping up the crooked business practice that screws over working people just like you and creating another generation of trust fund brats
      Democratic process is complicated, expensive and yes, it is truly annoying... but then there's the 'alternatives' which hardly bear considering, so it must be defended and robustly enforced

      The 1941 movie "Citizen Kane" is a critically acclaimed portrait of American media barons. Nowadays, entertainment moguls are cruising on superyachts , while some media barons (i.e. Mark Zuckerberg) like exclusive real estate, but they prefer a populist image - Mark Z. runs errands in a vintage Ford Bronco II. The Sun Valley Conference (Idaho) is kinda crazy. Private superjet fly-ins fill the airport to capacity in an incredible non-stop display. I agree - just follow the money.

      Oligarchs here have heavily influenced American government, to varying extent, right from the start. Over the past 40 or 50 years, their influence has gained a lot of momentum with dismantling of regulations, altering tax law and structure, and disempowering labor unions, drawing wealth away from the middle class. And yes, Russian influence here is practically overt at this point. I don't know how many Americans pay attention, or believe it, or see it for the threat that it is.

      Unfortunately oligarchy is on the ascendency around the world - and with it massive inequalities in wealth, less efficient economies, political graft, the weaponisation of the media and social division. We need to learn from Ukraine’s experience fast… and I fear we are not understanding the right lessons!

Jonathan you should maybe be covering the corruption and disinformation in the UK as well. Also since Boris Johnson wanted to be seen visiting the Ukraine while earlier he had vetoed the objection of the UK Security Services to the son of a Russian Oligarch becoming a member of the House of Lords.

    I absolutely agree that in Eastern Europe women seem to have been on par with men professionally for a long time, despite the notion of by and large more conservative attitudes in these countries. The trend is very obvious in the Baltics - in Lithuania alone a female lead the country twice as president, the current prime minister is also a female and it's no big deal at all.

    Great interview, a beautiful intellect paired with exceptional analysis sharing insight into and difference between the political situations in Ukraine and Russia leading up to the genocidal invasion. It provides (although not needed) even more arguments for why it is so important that Russia is thoroughly defeted and Ukraine leaves this conflict victorious and allowed to continue its path towards freedom and democracy. Give them the means to push Russia out of the entire Ukraine now, as was mentioned, the main escalation driver would be the democratic countries showens weakness in the eyes of putin.

    I am thrilled by the quality of many of the female Ukraine parliamentarians. They give the confidence that the Ukraine will become a solid European positively driven nation, rather than the corrupt Putin style kleptocracy. I am fascinated by the horrific treatment of Julia Timosjenko, and would like to hear a study on her experience. Portrayed as corrupt, but most likely persecuted for attempting to eliminate corruption? Is this the case? Was she a victim of Putin’s grip on the old politics of Ukraine?

Is there some reason why everyone here in the west act acting like this is game of grandmothers footsteps? or am I wrong? Why does this fear of the ‘what if’ still persist and hamstring us from doing a proper job of holding up our side of the 94 deal? @@SiliconCurtain With pleasure.
      If only I knew whom has been doing research on this aspect of the UK's transformation more than 2 centuries ago, then I would feel really helpful.
      In this regard an off-topic: how to boost your numbers of viewers and subscribers by adapting to the TH-cam algorithm:
      You deserve a broader reach by the algorithm and I wonder whether it has to do with the fact that you purely focus on conducting interviews.
      Last week I've been reviewing several interview channels that I follow wondering what explains the differences in their reach.
      Based on this amateurish comparison I suspect that the algorithm favors channels that do more than just conducting interviews, for instance by:
      - making compilations of various interviews spiced with their own comments and some visuals;
      - posting the various sections of the interviews as stand alone videos of +/- 10 minutes;
      - making overview videos, for instance a video about what did you learn from your
      various interviews about civil society in Ukraine, or fighting corruption in Ukraine, or Russian propaganda, etcetera. Each time with links to those videos;
      - life Q&A's with you given your own expertise on the subject matter.
      I know this means even more work for you, but maybe one or more of these suggestions can come in handily when you wonder whom to interview next.
      Anyhow, you're the marketeer and I'm no TH-cam expert.
      At least this lengthy comment will help to tweak the algorithm a bit more into your favour.
      Once again, thank you for your great work. I've noticed that over the course of this war I've moved away from most channels that cover the war on the ground towards those that give a long term perspective on the background of this war: you, Vlad Vexler, Perun, Konstantin from Inside Russia and Anna from Ukraine.
      Best wishes.

    • @pierresaelen3097
      @pierresaelen3097 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oops, I'm running behind: I just noticed your Silicon Bites.
      That's the kind of thing the algorithm might require, but maybe with some visuals might be required, even if simply for splitting up the various topics you cover.
      Again, I'm no expert on how to tweak the YT algorithm to your advantage.
      Thanks for all your great work.

Even physically, I've noticed how many Ukr's are physically not small, and are strong, including quite a few women, perhaps whose median heighths are quite a bit taller than many society's women median or avg heighths. Though heighth is not essential, it's something that is part of sociology and has major influences.

    I do have 1 comment to make on US political discourse. The political dialogue has disintegrated in the US for many little reason but 1 major reason. The major reason is the controlling US political elite is losing control of a growingly united Middle-Middle Class. This is fracturing along geographical fault lines dating to colonial times. There may not be an easy solution.
    The US created a “More Perfect Union” in unique, some might say exceptional, conditions. Jealous separate States abandoned local sovereignty in part to create a stronger Federal whole. Although not taught this way, only an understanding of Masonic beliefs and an American consideration of political philosophy from France the French would never adopt, produced the USA.
    President Jefferson said the USA should undergo a revolution about every 20 years. In reality, these revolutions have occurred about every 50 years, yet have stayed within the political framework of the Constitution with a Bill Of Rights.
    The only exception was during the American Civil War. This was because capitalism clashed with a feudalistic legacy from the colonial period. Once this was resolved by war, the American system remained relatively stable.
    Elites in the US have never lasted much longer than a 50 year period. Of course influences linger, but absolute control has always succumbed to political domination and corruptions of personal narcissism. The diminishing relevance of Rockefeller Family will be followed by the Gates Family in a few years.
    Nevertheless, the current fracture in American political is exposing fault line which could signal a new America Era. It proves America is still the spearhead of democratic change. Here is how it is happening.
    The post racial, post industrial period in America has witnessed the birth of the world’s 1ST “Communist” country: the USA. In this country there are only echelons of Middle Class. At the top are always a temporary group in power. At the very bottom are only those not trying to be Middle Class. Many at the bottom poverty is a transitional period from immigration, divorce, or overcome by education.
    The Upper Middle Class in the US has become deaf to the integration of the Middle Middle Class. They are hostile to political leaders uniting this group. Pat Buchanan tried and failed. Jesse Jackson tried from a different angle and failed. President Trump did what both these 2 could not do, and it scared the Upper Middle Class geographically located in US Northest-New England and the West Coast.
    Surprisingly, the issue of abortion seems to crystallize these 2 Middle Class groups. In reality, abortion in now available where local people want and not available where people do not want it. It’s a political “Bahkmut” in actual importance. Yet this is what defines these groups.
    The Upper Middle Class believes President Trump is a link pin of a temporary political movement. They are wrong. Middle Class workers at the lower end need immigration control at the borders to raise wages. Middle Class workers at the higher end want immigration control of H1N1 visas to get higher wages and keep job security. These Middle Class voters are not just supporting President Trump, but Governor DeSantis or anyone else backing their political interests. This is why the Upper Middle Class is scared and is trying to suppress news outlets and persons supporting agendas they cannot control. How Americans work this Middle Class struggle will influence the rest of the world.
