    Greg Valentine talks about why he decided to quit WWF after that Earthquake job match at Wrestlemania 7. According to Valentine, he agreed to do the job for Earthquake but in what was proposed as a 12 minute match. On the day of Wrestlemania 7, the Valentine vs Earthquake match was cut to 4 minutes, essentially making it a squash match. Valentine quit WWF then headed to WCW where he later quit after refusing to job to Sting on a WCW Saturday Night TV taping.
    Later on, Greg Valentine was hired by Herb Abrams for the UWF. The crew was doing their TV Tapings in New York when afterwards, Valentine met up with Vince McMahon to discuss a return to the WWF. When Herb Abrams found out about this he immediately cancelled Valentine's check!

    I was waiting tables at a Holiday Inn right outside of Pittsburgh in the mid 90's and waited on Greg and Matt Bourne. (They were in town for an Indy Show) really cool and down to earth guys and since I didn't want to look like a "Mark" I just kept it cool and kept the conversation casual. They finished up and left (didn't leave a tip, but I didn't give a shit) because just waiting on them was cool enough. Fast forward a few years, I was an up and coming wrestler for a small promotion in Nashville and I was booked to work with Greg that night. We met up before the match and discussed the finish. I then asked him if he remembered eating at the Holiday Inn where I worked, and I about died when he remembered me. He even brought up that they forgot to leave a tip lol. So being as cool as a guy as he is, he decided not to let me go down without putting some heat on him and knocking him around. He was literally going to put me over since I was only a year into the business. However, I wanted to be put into the figure four. So he said "fuck it, if that's what you want" he put it on, I sold the McShit out of it and tapped out. Got back to the locker room and I shit you not, he already had lit up a smoke and told me "good job" and said he would like to work with me again. I never did work with him again, but that was a moment in my 7 years of wrestling that will always be the most memorable. Thank you Greg!!!!

      I have a Pittsburgh wrestling story as well Joe. I went to IUP in the late 90s-early 2000s, and I always have loved playing the ponies, so some buddies and I would always go to an OTB in Pittsburgh for the Kentucky Derby every year.
      We got down there for the 2001 Derby, and were talking about a pre race, and all of sudden this black guy walks in front of my buddy, and my buddy says, "Thats Virgil, The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase's manager." I laughed, because it was such a random comment and person to see, but I looked and ill be damned, it was. Virgil hears this, and angrily says to my friend, "Yeah, and who the F are you?", like a real jerk.
      A few hours later, I went to bet at a self betting machine, and Virgil was next to me, beating on the side of his machine like a crazy man in front of everyone. I took it that he was having a bad day betting the horses, and was down a lot of cash. It was so loud that security came up to him, and asked him to leave.
      Anyway, thats my Pittsburgh wrestling story lol.

    • @Cestro
      @Cestro 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think he minded doing a job for other wrestlers as he did it multiple times before. He just didn't like being made to look like one of those regular unknown jobbers you would see getting squashed in 5 minutes or less on TV back in the day. Seeing as how he was barely heading into his 40's (which is still prime years for pro wrestlers) when he lost to Earthquake at Wrestlemania 7, I guess he felt like he still had more left in the tank to be a top draw before being considered a washed up "has been" and believed they were doing him dirty. Although losing to Sting in WCW years later would be nothing to be ashamed of, I agree with CamaraoAmx that he probably did lose his spark or passion for the business and money was no longer an issue for him at that point in the 90's. He saw the way the business was changing and he must not have liked where it was going.

    • @photonicus
      @photonicus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidgraham8299 I can agree with that point of view, unless they were going to have Sting squash the Hammer in 3 minutes or something. The Hammer at least deserves a battle of SOME duration, and Sting being that top guy needed opponents that were at least something of a threat.

In a fluke accident he grabbed Wahoo by the ankle/leg and fell backwards. When Wahoo's foot hit the floor it broke his ankle for REAL. Greg held the hold not knowing Wahoo's ankle was broken while Wahoo screamed in pain. After about 15 seconds he let go and the medics came in the ring. It was not a gage but they saw an opportunity and worked it into a feud but Wahoo had to wear a cast for about 2 months.
